NO!!! Gibson, what have you done?! :ohdear:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! /caps
Gibson go with what's popular, big news Blackouts are pretty good They have ridiculously high output and a fuckton of bass though
A lot of the people I know that have tried EMG's and Blackouts like EMG's more. It's really opinion. Also, instead of buying a new pickup, you could just 18v mod the EMG.
The difference isn't that huge. They still sound really compressed at anything near high volumes and the cleans remain really Roland-midi-keyboard sounding. When I finish this disk check on my workstation I'll show you if you want, it's a pretty small difference between 'em.
I only have the access cavity for the pots to fir batteries for actives, and it's not that big. I dunno if 2 9Vs would fit. I have noticed a Seymour Duncan that I think is an active soapbar, but I don't know because it doesn't specify. The only thing I can think about this is that the output may not be high enough for what I want from an active. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/basslines/cutting-edge-1/45_string_black/ As for EMG, these are the ones I think are soapbars, but again, it does not specify.
Well now, here's a midi of the new song I'm making. It's the best I can give at the moment. http://www.mediafire.com/?2d7tw133g7hbw8d Sounds nice in my ears and it's the best thing I've come up musically for a while.
Sounds good man.

Just wire up one of these and let it hang (or tape it) from the existing battery cavity while you try it:

I actually like the EMG's cleans, especially the 85, but it's all up to the user.

If somebody doesn't like how they sound at 9v they won't like how they sound at 18v.
Nice, I like it! The transition in the middle is a little odd though, I'm guessing that's hard to do with a midi.
Do you mean the part where the slow part turns into the faster one or the one before the "chorus"?
Gibson go with what's popular, big news Blackouts are pretty good They have ridiculously high output and a fuckton of bass though
I've only used Blackouts in my electric, not in a bass, but the problem for me wasn't too much bass, it was the treble and the clean sound. It just sounded like a bridge singlecoil even on the neck pickup (I hate bridge singlecoils). I gutted them out for passives and I couldn't be happier
Do you mean the part where the slow part turns into the faster one or the one before the "chorus"?
The transition that happens at 50 seconds in
You silly people. DiMarzio is obviously the king of hot metal pickups.
You silly people. DiMarzio is obviously the king of hot metal pickups.
Dimarzio's have a tendency to sound shrill to me. Bare Knuckle and PRS all the way for my pickups
The transition that happens at 50 seconds in
Yeah I'm working on it. Made it a bit better now. Animals as Leaders have awesome drummer, but it seems everyone is mainly interested in Tosin.
Animals as Leaders have awesome drummer, but it seems everyone is mainly interested in Tosin.
I prefer the ability to write interesting songs more than the ability to play technically difficult songs. Tosin has both. Also drummers don't interest me that much.
Jesus fuck, just put my 8 string into BBEADGBE. I'm surprised my amp could take it. Still, dat dronin' feedback :gizz:
You silly people. DiMarzio is obviously the king of hot metal pickups.
dimarzio pickups are the only pickups
Any specific EMG models I should look at?
Animals as Leaders have awesome drummer, but it seems everyone is mainly interested in Tosin.
Look at him, he's awesome. The drummer is great, but the most prominent sound is Tosin, and face it, he just looks like a badass [editline]20th November 2010[/editline]
I prefer the ability to write interesting songs more than the ability to play technically difficult songs.
Any specific EMG models I should look at?
Are you still talking about soapbars? Because if that's what you want, I wouldn't get an EMG.
Guys please note that active EMGs have a bit of pre-amp in it so DON'T even try to get a good clean tone with them because you'll die.
Are you still talking about soapboxes? Because if that's what you want, I wouldn't get an EMG.
What are soapboxes like, I am not familiar with them? [editline]19th November 2010[/editline]
Guys please note that active EMGs have a bit of pre-amp in it so DON'T even try to get a good clean tone with them because you'll die.
I think you could get a good clean tone, you just might need some extra equipment for a great clean tone. But, they really aren't good for clean.
What are soapboxes like, I am not familiar with them?
Soapbar, sorry. I herped so hard I derped.
Soapbar, sorry. I herped so hard I derped.
Oh, haha. Well, they are pretty similar sounding.
Look at him, he's awesome.
Are you still talking about soapbars? Because if that's what you want, I wouldn't get an EMG.
yes, I am. what would you recommend otherwise?
Guys please note that active EMGs have a bit of pre-amp in it so DON'T even try to get a good clean tone with them because you'll die.
well I don't really have the need for perfectly clean playing. besides, I always have my P-bass with Seymour Duncan SSB-1 pickups in it if I need clean
Tosin is great, I haven't see a guitar player who plays the 8 strings just like him and how fluently he can change the course of what he plays.
And the whole crew of Animals as Leaders are exceptionally awesome musicians. It's like a match made in heaven. Here's the guy who plays bass and I think secondary guitar these days?
Tosin for president!
