People on this forum know far more about pickups than I
Just wait around dude, I'm sure they'll be able to tell you exactly what you want to know
consult hypno toad also
Yeah, probably gonna save up a bit, and get better at guitar before I go and spend $150+ on pickups right now, but it's good to know this sort of stuff for later.
When you're picking from equal quality pickups, there is no better or worse. There is only what you prefer.
Some people hate EMGs even for metal, some people love them.
They have a sterile sound, which I think sounds amazing for some metal bands, and is totally lacking for others. Give them a listen yourself to decide.

Mainly the .88mm
I love those, to bad they have about the same colour as my floor so I keep losing them.

This basically sums up eveything you need to know about pickups
About pickups there is a problem with mine, I got my Epi LP in December and I already wore off the chrome on the bridge pickup.
Since I fingerpick and commonly rest my thumb there, could it wear the chrome off that quickly, or is it a badly made pickup cover...

It's the fingerpicking, my Epi LP bridge pickup is fine and I've had it since September.
What makes you think you'll be able to play that kind of stuff if you're 'new' to guitar.
I know you're a bassist but I didn't think death metal was that simple to pick up
I play in a Death Metal band, so I already know what I'm doing. I just have to work a little harder when it comes to soloing. But I didn't ask for that criticism, I was asking how to get a decent tone on a cheap amp.
I wish I had Stratocaster, not just this acoustic chinese bullshit (i was lucky and got pretty good guitar).

Totally the same like one's user's guitar here.
well yeah, all acoustics look (virtually) the same...

Let me introduce you to my Faith Eclipse.

Faith acoustic guitars are awesome. How much did that cost, and who's it signed by?
It only cost him a subscription to a magazine.
It's signed by Phil Tilly from Moke.

I dont like whammy bars, feels like the guitar instantly gets out of tuning...I guess its good if you're into heavy effects and stuff though. Steve vai uses the whammy bar pretty good.
The late great jimi hendrix used it good aswell.
On a sidenote: To all new players, Theres is one hill you must reach and that is to learn your first song, after that something happens to you that makes you pick up things faster and faster!

That's why we've got the floyd rose, EDGE and other double locking tremolos.

I never actually got a subscription.
Just bought it in a store.
It's about 700 euros by the way.
Whats a locking tuning nut?
I've heard about in the context of it stopping your guitar slipping out of tune but I don't know what it is.

I have some gibson knobs that are on my iceman, the black ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-GIBSON-Speed-knob-Volume-tone-knob-set-Black-/350364953529?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item519360ebb9

How easy would it be to install? Just unscrew the current knobs?
most likely you wouldn't even have to unscrew the old knobs. they just pull off.
dunno if the new ones would fit though
Signing up for Bass Lessons tomorrow. Anything I should know?
Only plug a bass into a bass amp.
You can play a bass though a guitar amp fine at low volumes.
what exactly will happen if you play a bass through a guitar amp?
It'll blow. I've heard stories of being able to play it fine at low volumes, but to be on the safe side I'd definitely use a bass amp. Going the other way (guitar --> bass amp) is fine though.

Thinking about getting a classical guitar with nylon strings any suggestions?

Who is that in your Avatar and where is it from? <3
I recently started playing guitar and I have no idea if this question has been answered or not but I can't do a bar from any kind, I've been trying to bar the 8th fret where the tension in the strings isn't as high but I can't do it. Only one or two strings sound good, two if I'm lucky.
I really need help, it's an acoustic guitar and I got the action the lower it could go without buzzing.
All the songs I want to play have bar chords and it's pissing me off not being able to do it. :saddowns:
Acoustic as in Spanish?
I'll upload a picture. It was laying around so I thought: why not give it a try?
So I bought new strings for it, steel to be exact, and started playing some riffs. But bar chords kill me completely.

Sorry for the quality and size, phone camera. Click to get the huge picture.
Playing a bar on a Spanish guitar is hard, because the fretboard is wider than on a Western or electric guitar.
