The finish on that is horrible.
"Wood" is not a finish.
Those greenish inlays look pretty bad in contrast to the light maple top. They used it for the binding, too. That stuff just looks sleazy somehow to me.

They're not actually green. It's abalone, which is a type of sea snail thing (the shell is used for the inlays) and they change colour in the light, they shine all different colours, mostly greeny though. I agree that it doesn't look good though, I've never liked abalone, too colourful, I like me some good mother of pearl.
Here's a handy picture of abalone shell

Yeah, it's way too flashy. Pearl looks better.
Would be nice to see more guitar companies using Tagua Nuts. The stuff is very close to Ivory in appearance and physical attributes.
I dont like les pauls personnally. They look okay, but when it comes to playing them its uncomfortable to me, sitting down at least. Not sure how it is standing up. I dont like the tone either
I never realized Guitar Center is to gear as Best Buy is to computers, or Kohls is to clothing. Waiting around while somebody checked this Peavey I was selling with nothing to do but check out their selection, ended up getting hit with "we're not authorized to carry that, but we can order it for you" a lot. Can't really judge the difference between an ESP Standard and an LTD if all they're allowed to carry is LTDs. Would have taken that 15% off with the trade in and bought a Pod X3 Pro on the spot...if they carried them.
Hell, even their ads for this trade-in and "upgrade" nonsense are...nonsense. A $600 Schecter is an upgrade to who, exactly, someone playing a $200 Ibby?
At first I used to hate SGs.
Then I thought they were pretty cool, but probably wouldn't ever get one because I doubt I'd need or want one.
Saw a video yesterday which was a great example of the SG, and how great they actually sound.
Then I found this:

I think it looks awesome.
What is les paul guitars to thrash and/or heavy metal, I know james used one but that was after st.anger.
What is les paul guitars to thrash and/or heavy metal, I know james used one but that was after st.anger.
Any chance you could rephrase that a bit better?
I think he just wants to know if they're suitable. And yes, of course they suitable. However personally I don't think they look the part.
plus most les pauls have 22 frets, and are quite heavy. I'm just going to say I think there are better guitars for metal than a les paul. And unless you get something like an ESP eclipse, I think you'd find most les pauls don't really have pickups that are geared for metal.
K thanks, and yeah I was confusing my self so I just thought "aw fuck it" and posted what I had down.
I just like the look of Les Pauls and I play allot of metal so I was just asking.

Les Pauls do everything.

Well, if you really like 'em, go for it, I don't think you'll have any problems playing metal on an LP.
I'm just asking allot of question thow because my last purchase was on impulse and I don't want a repeat.
I imagine you could find a les paul 'style' guitar with 24 frets if that bothers you
but alex skolnick of testament uses a les paul so I doubt you'll have any trouble thrasing around on a LP
It will do, it is the amps and effects that matter.

Have you looked at the ESP Eclipse?
Les Pauls can do anything

I've considered one, but I'm buying off of someone in town that's selling a Epiphone, then I could try it out and all that jazz.
What are good pickups for metal but have a nice clean sound. I'm considering DiMarzio D Activators. Anyone have any suggestions?

Same thing with me. I used to hate SGs, and now I love them, they are awesome.

Any guitar can do anything.
Last night I watched someone play Enter Sandman on a banjo.

Not this again...
At least it's not about EMGs.
Certain guitars do work better for certain types of music. I find that guitars with single coils sound better for blues type music.
Though, that's more a matter of opinion. At any rate, what instrument you use will characterize your music a lot.
Every guitar works for everything. Just some are better than others at certain things for certain people.
It's more down to your rig whether it's going to sound good.
Any advice on how to get this kinda guitar tone?

I'm pretty close, but I think I need heavier strings. They sound pretty heavy on the record.
Hmm anyone know how to build up stamina to palm mute consistently? Also, whenever I try to play solos, I always seem to hear the previous note I was picking ringing when I move my finger up to another note rather than a smooth transition. Is there a way of positioning your fingers or is it just me putting my distortion up high?

that's true, you can still play metal on a strat (eg lower tuning) although on a proper guitar built for that, the neck is longer so there's more tension on the strings.
Again so they don't flop around like a 40 year old hooker's tits
You can still get playable tension with thick enough strings. Some people complain about getting enough tension on 25.5" scale for some low tunings, but I can comfortably get to Ab. Anything lower than that is pretty damn extreme and warrants a baritone scale.

Look for something with medium output. DiMarzio has output grades on their website.

Get a compressor.
Anyone heard of DBZ Guitars? (Not DragonBall Z)
They look pretty awesome.
