Guys, I'm gonna get an electric guitar soon. Gonna try out some in store, got a budget of around £200, can stretch over. Don't have to worry about an amp, my stepdad'll be me use his. Basically, what would you guys suggest as a good guitar around this price? I'm a metalhead, so that'll be what I'll play most.
The tone I get out of my POD is never as good as the tone I get out of my amp. It's actually noticeable.
It's not like it sounds bad, but it's a lot more... artificial
Effects pedals work for me because then I don't have to buy a ton of amps to get a variety of sounds. I'm not concerned at all with how authentic the pedal sounds, if it sounds decent then it's good enough.

Best guitar you're gonna get for your price range. Trust me on this one.
Edit: Ok, ok guys.

Get something with humbuckers.
Get a guitar with a fixed bridge (i.e. not whammy bar compatible).
The rest is up to you!

I'm gonna have to somewhat disagree with JoeyZ and say that while Epiphone may be a good choice, I wouldn't go for one with a trem at that price range, since all it will do is mess with your tuning stability.
I would recommend looking for Schecters, Epiphones, LTDs, Yamahas etc, but I would do so on the used market. Check Gumtree a lot and you'll find a great deal eventually.

Because I can vouch for thomann.de, here is some of their own brand stuff (Harley Benton):

To be honest the Les Paul one seems to be the best out of those.

And their stuff is shipped carefully, mine arrived in perfect nick, satisfied with my purchase but I wish I had spent just that little bit more cash on the "hot rod" version of my bass with the extra Jazz pickup as it sounds and looks much better than my bottom of the range one :v:
Yeah, I've looked around Thomman for a while. It's a good site.
And Dopey Trout, I took your advice and am looking around Gumtree for one. I found what I can tell is a nice LP on Gumtree, in my city.

I'm not really very knowledgeable in guitar hardware, so I'd like other opinion on this one?

I don't really like the thick necks on those. If you're gonna play alot of technical lead metal stuff then you might want to reconsider.
Les Pauls in general?
Looking around Thomman for another. Going to head down to the guitar store soon, try out a few before I buy anything anyway

How much can you stretch over? If you increase your budget to £300 (I know it's an extra £100, but hear me out), you could buy a Chapman ML1. For the price I reckon it's probably the best metal guitar you can buy.
Look up RobChappers on YouTube, he's an incredible guitar player and he designed it with loads of input from the community. It has pretty high end stuff on it as well and it sounds awesome. Plus, they're only making 500 of these, so if his band gets big chances are it'll be worth way more than you bought it for.
Your choice though, in my opinion I would stretch out an extra £100 for this, but that's me.

So, that model that he was playing's the one for £300? Damn, that's fucking nice. I may well do so, and yeah I could sell it on for far more if they get big.
And I may well check out his lessons at some point too lol

If you're talking about the green one, that's his new guitar, the Ghost Fret. But that's hand made and costs £1500. But in most of his videos -and in both the songs his band's released so far I think (look up Monkey Lord on iTunes) - he uses that.
[editline]09:30PM[/editline]
Oh, and on the subject of Rob, he released an awesome instrumental guitar album/EP (it's only 5 songs). But it's still an amazing listen.

Is this the £300 one yeah?

And is this a Ghost Fret
Nope, both are the ML1, the £300 one. In the second video the guy had pretty heavily modified it though. For the Ghost Fret, search "Chapman Ghost Fret", in YouTube and it's the top result, the green guitar (it'll be available in other colours). It sounds unbelievable.
[editline]10:18PM[/editline]
Just remembered the ghost fret comes in later in that video so you were probably right. If it's green, it's ghost fret.
Yeah, he did a lot with it. I'll see if there's any demos of an unmodded version of the ML1.
And goddamn, the Ghost Fret sounds amazing.

Here's a demo of the ML1 prototype
You shouldn't buy anything. You should learn to play ffs!
I'm not just buying shit for the sake of it. Most times I go to play my guitar, I spent ages fiddling around with the effects, then I'm still not happy so I just try to play, but then it sounds so bad that I just give up.
Watching a bunch of shit with the ML1 and I am definitely going to try and get one I think.
I wish I had a guitar and could play it
I wish I had a guitar and could play it
It's not that hard, with just 4 chords you can write a lot of songs.
I wanna be a bluesman
I wanna be a bluesman
You'll find it easy since you're black.
Yes

You're gonna want a Flying V and a pipe

Sheeeyit. If I weren't so fucking dead-set on getting an LP for a not-brutal guitar I'd buy that, yook bullshit and cuntery tax be damned.
Fuck, I'm seriously considering that now. It'd probably sound pretty cool with a pair of The Sultan's or Irish Tours in it and one Rebel Yell or a Burstbucker or something. Cheaper than what I was looking at too.

That V looks like it has some wicked neck warp.
That Flying V was awesome, then I saw it was made by Harley Benton.
Then it wasn't so awesome...
i have a white pearl strat with a wammybar and a grey black and white patter it looks like the strat jimmi hendrix played

The Les Paul sounds amazing. I'm planning on checking out a Les Paul Studio Limited Edition at Guitar Center in the next couple of days as a grad gift.
Today, I played an acoustic bass for the first time... I LOVED it!
I also got to play a 12 string... I had a time with that
