I like those knobs, and the tailpiece-cover thing.
I've been using Ernie Ball slinkies for a while, love the sound they give.
I used ernie ball strings once and I hated them, I got some D'Addarios now however and they are godlike.
Rotosound!
Guys, it pains me to say this, but I'm not going to get the RAN, it's a really nice guitar and all. But... I just don't want it, I don't really like the look, or the neck, or much of it at all. Sure it's custom made, but if it doesn't have the parts I want in a guitar, then it may as well just be any other guitar.
While we're on the topic of strings:
Would a set of 11's be too heavy for D Standard? I don't have the tension I want with 10's.

I use 11's on my dean with a horrible floyd rose for D standard. If you know how to turn an allen key and look at a guitar's neck you'll be fine.
It's not a Floyd, it's a hardtail. But thank you; just wanted to know before I went all the way out to the shop to buy them for nothing. :3
I have no clue how rare they are. The guy at the counter said only one was sent to every guitar center and some other retailers, and he said it was a limited run for the new decade.
Depending on how rare it is, I could be a very happy man.
They aren't that rare from what I have seen, But it's not like it's a bad guitar, I Like mine.

It's apparently a top seller, online anyway. Not sure if that bursts your bubble or what.
The other colors aren't the limited edition run.

Ah, I see.
Now I want one. Too bad I spent all my extra cash on my Artcore. Was definitely worth it though :3:
Ive always bought Earnie Ball regular slinkys. I dont know much about strings, so what would be a good set of metal orientated strings?

Standard tuning
Darn, one of my friends had a 64 Fender Mustang. Sold it though. Such a nice guitar.

I'm thinking of buying this... http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/1958-Les-Paul-Plain-Top-VOS/Overview.aspx the reviews are great, I looked up some videos and they sound great. I really love the sound of les pauls, the sustain... the unchambered les pauls sound amazing. Plus, take a look at this picture, its fucking sex in pixel form

Standard tuning
I don't think strings are that genre specific (at all, really), but for standard I'd probably get some d'addario 10s.

Congrats, you just wasted over a thousand dollars! Your prize is regret for not comparing prices!

Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
I do kind of. If I think about it I can tell you what note it is but I don't have it right off.
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
most of it. manily on E, e, A, and D.
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
E, A, D, most of G and e. :v:
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
I'm getting towards it. I know what's what, but not well enough to improvise contrapuntal tapping or anything
And the higher strings an guitar trip me up, coming from a bass playing perspective
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
E and A really (and e as well, obviously). I'm trying to learn the rest though.
I got pretty much E and D as notes on the D string are only 2 more frets up. A isn't to bad as 3, 5 and 7 are C,D,E and on E its G,A,B. Do you guys use this method to memorize it?

That's what I use to work out the notes, just by using octaves and knowing that A - D is 5 frets etc. I ended up memorising E and A just by using that enough in practise :)

Alright ill check them out

Nice guitar, but apparently it's better to actually try the guitar you're going to buy before buying, rather than ordering online with Gibsons. People have said their quality control has been a bit iffy in recent years.
Then again, that may not be true at all.
Out of curiosity, who here has the fret board memorized?
I know most the notes I need to know. I don't really need to memorize where the sharps and flats are, for instance if I know where A is, then I also know where A# is. But I usually never pay attention to the notes that I am playing, I take more of an interval approach of seeings the fretboard because it is a lot more useful. If I know where the root note is and the scale, then I really don't need to know what notes are what, I just need to know where they are in relation to the scale.
I'm trying to work out what scale this song uses, here are all the notes used:
e - 5, 7, 9
B - 5, 7, 8, 10
G - 4, 6, 7
D - 4, 5, 7
A - 4, 5, 7
E - 3, 4, 5
