Went to bestbuy and played some of their most expensive acoustics. It's kind of hard to judge though because the room has a lot of natural reverb and makes every acoustic sound good.
Wait, Best Buy sells instruments? I always thought they sold overpriced hardware.
Wait, Best Buy sells instruments? I always thought they sold overpriced hardware.
Varies by location, though I think all of them are limited to plywood acoustics and First Act electrics at best.
Have you ever played on a First Act? It's horrifying.
Have you ever played on a First Act? It's horrifying.
Are they even the right size for an adult? I always assumed they were toys, because you only see them in cardboard boxes in Best Buys and Targets next to the Baby's First Drum Pad and the "I've never seen a real karaoke machine" brand karaoke machine. I've nothing against ghetto instruments (My only electric was a $200 Peavey and my acoustic a plywood Lotus), but I always assumed those were out and out junk for kids 5 and up.
Some Best Buys have a huge instrument section of the store with real guitars and drums and whatnot. Too bad the people working there are incredibly illiterate. I went into the drum room in a Best Buy once and every single cymbal was mounted upside-down. Guitar Center is better by a long shot if you need some input from the people selling you things, but if you know what you're looking for its alright I guess.
Shit, that reminds me, I have to look at mine. It's pretty buzzy, and some of it comes through on the amp. My neck's almost dead on straight. To the point where you need a level and vise to see the curve.
that's how most bass necks are. even the slightest half of a millimeter can create fret buzz. Most of the stuff was low-to high mid range quality equipment. I was looking at a really cheap les paul copy, I took it off the rack... It had nylon strings. Wat? I went up to the guy at the desk and said "Sir, this electric guitar has nylon strings." "Okay? Play it or shut up." I was pretty irked that he told me to play it or shut up, so I said "listen you fucking imbecile, IN ORDER FOR IT TO MAKE NOISE THROUGH AN AMP, THE PICKUPS NEED TO CAST A MAGNETIC FIELD AROUND THE STRINGS TO PICK UP THE VIBRATIONS, TURN THEM INTO AN ELECTRICAL SIGNAL AND FEED IT INTO THE AMPLIFIER." he goes "I don't see how nylon strings would affect that" i dropped the guitar and walked out. he tried to grab me but I pushed him and told him to get lit.
How the hell does he thin... what? How do you get a job with that level of intelligence?
Play it or shut up? What a jerk.
What tunings do you mostly use people? On my seven I use: B E A D G B E A D A D G B E A C G C F A D On my six I use: D A D G B E C G C F A D A# F A# D# G C
I usually like keeping my guitar in C standard, Drop D, or D standard. Most of the time it's in D standard though.
The thought of putting on nylon strings on an electric with my fat fingers makes me sad
How the hell does he thin... what? How do you get a job with that level of intelligence?
Maybe because it isn't a music store.
Love this album. There was a period of :smithicide: but now I'm all :buddy:
Exactly the same with me! I bought it, hated on it for about 6 months, picked it up again and holy fuck I was amazed at how good it was.
Wah tips, please!
Varies by location, though I think all of them are limited to plywood acoustics and First Act electrics at best.
Nah it really depends, the one I went to had a pretty big selection of guitars and other musical instruments, surprisingly decently priced when compared to guitar center. The cheapest acoustic they had was for $200 and it seemed decent.
Just rebuilt my old steelstring.
I think it would be absolutely awesome to do some sort of Facepunch collab.
Why does that sound so awesome in my head?
What you think?
This made me cry inside.
Matt Pike uses First Act guitars AND Brent Hinds has a first act Brent has the doubleneck and a 12 string, that's it afaik
That's probably the worst possible way you could've attached the pickup.
You can't really call first act shit. yeah, they've got those cheap guitars, but then they've also got shit like this http://www.amazon.com/First-Act-Delia-Limited-Guitar/dp/B000B864XS/ref=sr_1_5?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1279390693&sr=1-5
You actually taped a humbucker to an accoustic guitar? Now I've seen everything. I shall die a lucky man.
How the hell does he thin... what? How do you get a job with that level of intelligence?
I went in a few weeks later when I heard they had mistakenly put up a MIA Fender Jazz in Oly White with a tort pickguard for 500 dollars. I scrounged up the cash, got there, found it, played it, walked up to the desk with it and started the process of buying it. The clerk did a internet search for New MIA Jazz basses and he couldn't find any under 1299 + tax. He knew what a MIA Fender was worth, but the dumb fucking manager (nylon strings guy) had mistaked it for a used MIM. I don't know how you mistake something like that, but Best Buy (atleast the one by me) has a tag pricing policy, whatever is on the tag is what you pay. So I got a brand new MIA Jazz with the hardcase, 2 sets of strings, the bass and the setup kit, for around 565. Only redeeming factor about best buy. I actually talked to the manager (nylon strings guy) and he recognized me and tried to get security to rush me out of the store but seeing as I had just dropped 565 they didn't do shit to me, I sincerely thanked him for his stupidity and wished him a speedy recovery from the brain damage he must've surely incurred from being dropped on his head as a child. I walked out with the biggest :smug: look on my face ever. The only thing that would have made that day more bad ass was if the Best Buy blew up behind me and someone was filming it while I was walking slowly, carrying my bass.
You actually taped a humbucker to an accoustic guitar? Now I've seen everything. I shall die a lucky man.
Not just acoustic, it's a classical guitar. If he put steel strings on it he's destroyed.
Current setup, Fender Telecaster > EHX Small Stone Nano > Dunlop Crybaby > Vox VT30 Been playing for 8 years. Saving up for a Jaguar now. If there are any fans of shoegaze here, can you tell me what you think of this clip ? I done it on my old practice amp I got for free with my Westfield Les Paul like 4 years ago before I got my VT30 a couple of days ago. Done it by putting a pen under the 9th fret to push up and push down certain strings. It's really lo-fi because I don't have any decent recording equipment.
Not just acoustic, it's a classical guitar. If he put steel strings on it he's destroyed.
That's not a classical guitar.
Just rebuilt my old steelstring. *ghetto fucking instrument*
Ingenious. Makes me consider duct taping a humbucker to my Lotus. You gotta record something so we know how horrible it sounds.
http://www.dagexpress.com/incEngine/?name=Marshall-MG100HDFX-Head&product=1030198850&affiliate=605 Fishing for opinions here, is this head any good? I got it and a Marshall 4x10 cab for $100 because the head was broken. Got the head fixed for free and now I'm wondering if the head is worth holding on to or if it's better to sell it and have the cab for free. Thoughts? It's got a nice enough tone, but there's no mistaking the artificial-ness of a solid state amp.
Ingenious. Makes me consider duct taping a humbucker to my Lotus. You gotta record something so we know how horrible it sounds.
Dude, the sound it makes is perfect for my slide guitar playing, and even old blues. So stop beeing so hard on it. this baby has had a hard life, and its not a classical guitar. or heck if i'd know [editline]12:12AM[/editline]
Not just acoustic, it's a classical guitar. If he put steel strings on it he's destroyed.
This guitar has had steel strings on it for ten years, still not any problems with the wood or any shit like that! [editline]12:14AM[/editline]
That's probably the worst possible way you could've attached the pickup.
i didnt want to drill anything, or do anything fancy, just to test some sounds with this pickup for my blues/slidey stuff [editline]12:14AM[/editline]
You actually taped a humbucker to an accoustic guitar?
