I've started to be more into jazz recently, and now I would like to learn to play it. Are there any good tutorials where they explain all the modes and chords you may use in jazz? I would also like to learn more music theory, any good sites for that?
I'm looking for a 7 string. Any suggestions? current options are Agile 725 or Schecter Hellraiser C-7. Price range needs to be under about $1000 AUS
Both of those are great guitars. Like Hullu said the Agile's licensed trem won't hold up against the OFR in the Schecter (if you're going for the FR models), but the necks on Schecter's are rather divisive, especially if you're normally into Ibby's or something. So, Thin neck - Used Ibanez RG7621 Average neck - Agile 725 Thicker neck - Schecter C7 Hellraiser [editline]12:35PM[/editline]
I've started to be more into jazz recently, and now I would like to learn to play it. Obviously this is an oversimplification, but it's a start

I bought my Ibanez RG7620 from a guy there, including shipping to Australia it set me back $700, and it's an amazing guitar. Very similar if not better than the RG1527, which retails for $2000 or so here. So I recommend the 7620/7621/7420/7421. Amazing guitars for the money. If Ibanez isn't your thing, there should be plenty of Agiles and Schecters and others that show up often.
Schecter makes good 7-strings. Don't know about the Agile though. I heard they have a licenced FL installed and those pretty much are shit when it comes to keeping tune. What do you people think of this?
You gotta love the fernandes sustainer.
@ the dean bass: If the fingerboard wasn't green but natural it would be kind of cool, But they could've picked a better colour. Right now it looks like plastic.
That's the whole point. That bass is perfect to hang on display in your house or put it on stage but never play on it. [editline]03:55PM[/editline]
Correct, but one of the things about jazz is using notes that aren't in the modes, so practice chromatics lots.
The whole secret behind jazz is basically that there are no wrong notes. However, you can play notes at the wrong time.

Oh wow :v: I'd like that on my wall
According to this link http://www.tunemybass.com/bass_guitar_buying_guide/bass_scale.html Medium is 30-33" for a normal bass guitar. The median of those is 31.5". 31.5 * .75 = 23.625 If a scale length is 3/4, just find the original scale length and multiply by .75.
Thanks, im planning on starting bass but I need to find one that is my size XP
Dat bodyshape.
Someone's gonna shit on this guys parade in a few posts.
828, got an .80 on the F# so I don't worry myself about the tension. The pickup is a bit on the feeble side though, might rip it out for a Bare Knuckle at some point. It's a lovely guitar though, especially for the price I paid for it :smug:
Yeah agiles are great for the price.
Yeah agiles are great for the price.
I got mine on evilBay since I'm in the UK, so I got it for silly money (relatively anyways) :v:
I got mine on evilBay since I'm in the UK, so I got it for silly money (relatively anyways) :v:
Very nice. I'm going to get a strictly 7 +1 soon hopefully.

I asked a question about pickups in the last thread, but now I'm just giving myself a headache on...everything. Not really a "guitarist" so much as "producer who happens to play guitar." Ayudame. My current setup is a joke (I've never really used my guitar for any of my music in any serious capacity up until recently, just played it on the side after I got one as a gift.) Currently just using a Peavey Generation EXP and Guitar Rig 4. It sounds a little bit like wet anus to me, but I'm not entirely sure where the majority of the fault is- me for sucking, Guitar Rig for always sounding just a little bit assy, the guitar for being unsuited to half the stuff I try to do, etc. Starting with the guitar- I need something I can tune in D or C and do some heavy rhythm stuff with. Should I look for a particular brand/body/god knows what else, or is everything above the shit pricepoint going to sound alright? All I know so far is I want something with humbuckers. Maybe EMGs? I keep hearing well of those. But I have no idea what sort of body material it should have, what kind of bridge I need, etc. And is the EXP even worth keeping? I'll have somebody replace parts if it is. I know for a fact the current pickups are shit, but I don't know if there'd be a reason to keep a body that's only suited to singles (or, rather, would cost more than the guitar is worth to have somebody cut it up to put in something else.) Are singles better for something? And regarding amps- I don't have the room for multiple, and was wanting to work in a variety of styles, so I'm gonna be using an amp modeler. Would there be any reason to get any specific one on top of a hardware modeler? Since I don't have the room to mic one (and don't do anything live) I don't see the point. Though input on that vs. a hardware modeler (thinking either a BOSS or Line6 rackmount or maybe a Tonelab pedal) vs. software modelers would be cool.

Basically a guitar with a longer neck which adds tension to the strings, making the sound a bit tighter and more articulate, which is helpful especially for lower tunings. The Agile Sceptor 627 is a good example, not really sure how the stock pickups are though. As for pickups, it really depends what sound you want. I'm going to assume you're playing metal/hard rock because of the dropped tunings, so you'll probably want something high output.
My local guitar shop have started stocking Schecters, they have some pretty damn sexy ones. They also have one of those limited edition 7 string Gibson explorers with the EMGs. It's only £1200 as well. When it was released they expected them to go quick and said it would cost £3000. Anyway I put 012 gauge strings on my guitar, pretty damn sexy sounding.
A 7-string explorer?! WANT. That, with 24 frets would be my DREAM guitar.
I once had a dream that I went to a meshuggah concert with a banana yellow 8 string ibanez destroyer w/ tremolo it was fucked up but I want that guitar
You went to the gig with the guitar? Were you playing it on stage, or did you have it in the crowd?
