Here we are
I have a Chantry acousic guitar. It was only fifty quid, so I don't think your guitar will be worth much, but I don't know much about the company anyway.
I've been thinking of changing pickups with a low budget, how would a emg 81/60 combo do on a 350 euro 3 year old guitar?
So guys, my starter set amp is beginning to fuck up. Sound is choppy, sometimes it doesn't make any sound, basically it's unreliable. So I wanna get a replacement.
So what is good reliable amp for around $100-200?

and I play mostly metal

What amp do you use?

Peavey Vypyr, Roland Cube or a Vox Valvetronix. I'd recommend the Peavey first though

My amp is a shitty rocktron but I want the pickups for the marshall at the local rehearsal studio and live concerts. I also go through a line 6 floor pod (the original, not pro)
I wouldn't go for actives in that case then. Look into Dimarzio's or Seymour Duncans
The Peavy Vypyr is pretty good...
I've been playing my acoustic more, lately. Mainly out of laziness.
Me too, but because I've suddenly become obsessed with how pretty it sounds :buddy:
I have a 12 string acoustic, but I took 4 of the octave strings off so it's tuned DGCFAAdd. Gives a nice subtle chorus effect and stays as easy to play as a 6er.

What's the difference between actives and passives related to the kind of amp I use?
Step dad tried to tune my new guitar (so he could give it to me tuned, it was a present) and snapped the e string. I re stringed it and tried tuning the D string and snapped that. FML

get better strings. Unless you are tuning octaves higher it shouldn't do that.
ye we are getting better strings.
Hey guys, a while back I bought this guitar from a friend who apparently got it from a guy who custom built it in the 80's, it sound much nicer than my epiphone strat but I just don't really know much more than that about it. Here are some pics of it ( BATHRROM PICS lol, bad quality sorry )

oh and did I mention NO LABELING ANYWHERE!!! I've even checked the inner electronics! Nothing at all!
Ooooh. Licensed FR held up for...a couple minutes of solid use before it detuned 20 cents. Not sure the fine tuners are just ass, though, might be a combination of the cheap strings stretching and it not having been set up properly to begin with. Hope it doesn't end up being the bridge's fault. Done got my hopes up I was going to save $200.
I'm surprised how much I'm liking lighter gauge strings, though. Wonder what I'm going to do with these regular and power slinkies. And the boomers. Why on earth did I ever buy heavyweight boomers?
Alright, since I'm going for passive humbucker pickups, I want a good metallica sound, what should I use?
Metallica use active pickups generally.
Just restrung my Dinky FR, low open E is buzzing, but everything else is cool. Ideas? Locking nut is a tight as possible...
A little buzz shouldn't be an issue, but if it is you either need to adjust the truss rod or raise the low E side bridge post a tad.

Basically my teacher ajusted the tension in the back and reset the bridge, i'll wait till tomorrow and see if it has all settled down and if its not he will come back and have a look again, but its quite a buzz.
Not much will change overnight unless the truss rod was adjusted, in which case it is recommended to let it settle between adjustments.
Btw you should learn how to set up your guitar, only you can do it right!

Yeah i've never set up a FR before, this is my first FR hence my teacher helping me. I will learn when i know what it all does :P
It's a very rewarding thing to be able to set up your own guitar, I've almost come to enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing.

I have to agree with you there, as much as I hate thinking about the day where I may have to do a reset on the guitar I can't help but feel some joy when I'm actually setting up the guitar.

This. I can only replace strings but its still pretty fun.
So my band is a trio right. I was thinking cause we normally play with me using a 6 string, but having this seven string and all here lying around I was wondering...
I use it for a side project and all, but do you think it may be a problem to bring the 7 string to the band seeing as our bassist uses a 4 string bass. I mean I know meshuggah uses 8 string guitars and a 5 string bass so it should be the same just with one less string... right?

I have no idea what the fuck you're asking.
You can play all your normal 6-string material on a seven. If you were to start playing stuff using the extra low string, yeah, you'd be overlapping ranges with the bassist. That doesn't mean you'd ever have problems. I'm not sure what made you think you would.
You also get range overlap with a tuba and a trumpet, it doesn't mean there's ever going to be any situation in which both are going to be playing middle C at the same time. Surely you guys, like, write songs together or something, and can make sure you don't do any stupid voicings if you decide to play lower stuff.

There's no reason for you to be a bigot about it all. I was just asking a question. People are not as musically educated as you so get your head out of your ass.
