Right, when I was at a band workshop a few months ago with Craig Blundell, he suggested that I colour code the frets on my bass. I have now done that.

3: red
5: green/yellow stripe
7: blue
9: black
12: white
15: yellow
looks neat
I was thinking you should do it on the fretboard, not the neck...

That would imply any of what I said was an opinion.
What you said was essentially "will increasing the range of my instrument cause problems playing with other instruments that overlap in parts of that range", the answer to which is "what?"
Yes, if you and your bassist play random dissonant nonsense there will be a problem. There would be regardless. If you play things written to avoid stupid voicing already, why would that extra string matter? Is it going to grab your hand and make you play it?
So my band is a trio right. I was thinking cause we normally play with me using a 6 string, but having this seven string and all here lying around I was wondering...
I use it for a side project and all, but do you think it may be a problem to bring the 7 string to the band seeing as our bassist uses a 4 string bass. I mean I know meshuggah uses 8 string guitars and a 5 string bass so it should be the same just with one less string... right?
There will be no issue as long as you do not just base everything off of the lowest notes on the guitar while having the eq set to mostly bass. The reason I say this is that if you do that, the guitar and bass will mesh more and they will sound a good bit muddled because the frequencies will be fighting which will bring a big lack of clarity. Ideally, you want each part to have it's own frequency range so it won't conflict with other parts, on recordings you'll usually find that these parts are panned in opposite directions.
Really, there won't be any issues.

Btw you should learn how to set up your guitar, only you can do it right!
Yeah, how the fuck does one set up a guitar?
What is actually involved, I've no clue
[editline]06:06PM[/editline]
Also I'm considering trying to write some instrumental stuff with some friends
I've been listening to some instrumental bands recently, and I've come up with some okay, ambient sounding riffs myself and I bet my friends and I could come up with something cool. What does FP think?

That's a great place to start. If you read all that you should be pretty well set to try it yourself.

Well the bass won't be able to play the notes B-F# that the guitar plays on the 7th string, so you'll lose some low-end on those parts. Only solution is to play octave higher than normally, but then you're playing on the same octave as the guitar.

Umm....
You can use the 7-string on either standard (BEADGBE) tuning or something like (ADADGBE), but any lower than A will pose a problem.
You can easily tune a 4-string bass to B or A tuning.
Any one know If the Dawfcraft Hax Mod Ring is a good pedal to get?
May save up and get one some time in the nearish future.
google it if you wana look.
Anyone have any experience in mixing?
I want to know some easy to use programs that you can do some decent quality mixing.
I use FL Studio but there are probably better options out there.

I was talking about bass in a standard tuning, but go ahead and detune it, one way to solve the problem.

go for it you have nothing to lose
Playing with a band, even just practicing is hella fun. Do it.

Mixcraft is good if you want something simple and easy to use. Doesn't cost a lot much as well. You should probably just use the trials of different DAWS and see what you like the best.
I've been tuning my 4-string bass down to BEAD instead of EADG. Surprisingly, the lower strings get quite a bit of fret buzz, but it kinda sounds really cool.

Shit, I'm using G# standard :v
I'm planning to upgrade to a new amp in the near future, was considering picking up this Danelectro pedal 2-pack to replace the in-amp effects on my current amp.

I absolutely hate playing with other people, but one of them is my best friend and I've know the other for 5 years
Scratch that, taking a look at this auction for a Boss multi-effect pedal: http://cgi.ebay.com/BOSS-ME-30-GUITAR-MULTI-EFFECTS-PEDAL-w-case-manual-/260642086558?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3caf7a9e9e
I'm going to have to learn how to set one up at some point. Last time I took it to get setup, I didn't notice much of a difference, I swear he just changed the strings and messed with the intonation a bit. Still buzzes all the time.
What would I have to lose?
yeah that's what I said
