Isn't the answer obvious? Practice using your pinky. I've been working on pinky independence since I've been playing and I'd say I have a good amount of control over it and it isn't awkward to use at all. Do you do exercises at all that involve the pinky?
Ermm... I don't think it's good to state that here, but girls love it.
Girls love bass players :smug:

Why don't you make like a bass and be inaudible. XD

Why don't you make like a guitar and lead the way?
In a minute you're both gonna make like a cheap drum kit and get the everloving shit beaten out of you.
I was on a budget and wouldn't have been able to even afford a Squier.
It's only 220 UK Funbux for some Squiers. Though I don't know how tolerable that brand you got is.
Nah, in a minute I'll make like a saxophone and get blown.
Started playing guitar again about a month ago, was learning some basic theory and some songs as well. The guitar I had was just terrible, a stratocaster replica that cost me maybe $200 when I was younger. So I traded it in for some store credit, and picked up a used Aerodyne Telecaster for $600 bucks.
Looks like this exactly (click on the thumbnail) :

...Okay, that's on the "to buy" list. I forgot 2 sounded pretty boss for cleaner stuff.
I recently purchased one bridge and one neck seymour duncan hot rail pick up and fitted them today, you have no idea how good these freaking pickups sound.
as soon as i fitted them and restrung my guitar i played through rime of the ancient mariner and hallowed be thy name and i swear i literally came at the shear awesomeness of these pickups being played through my blackstar HT-5, the neck one is so good for a dave murray solo im just speechless.
anyway pics.....

I was going to get one of those but since I might be getting a new guitar soonish I put it off. But from what you're saying they seem pretty awesome.
On another note, how's the HT5? I'm think of replacing my crappy Fender Frontman with it. Does it do high gain well?

Really? Sweet. The bones in my right ankle popped out of the skin due to blunt force trauma and is being held in/together with a titanium rod, some plates, and screws.
Also I can't hold my guitar for at least a couple more weeks thanks to all the bruises on my chest.

Ibanez Roadstar 2 RS 1500
and for the pickups... well I don't really know, my former neighbor gave it to me 10 years ago like that, it still needs to be fixed,(all the wires in the control cavity are un-soldered, might need some news pots) only the bridge pickup is the original one.
And for neck+middle, they are not tele pickups, just the picture makes it look like that,

I thought they were called poles or pole pieces.
Though a guy who makes his own just calls them steel slugs 'cuz that's what they are...don't think that's standard though.

That's how it looked originally, when I installed the first sticker.
Installed EMG 81-85 to replace the stock pickups and now it's quite good.
Also you're not lucky. Sorry to hear... read that
One thing I'm trying to understand, but I'm having difficulty figuring out...

If the root note on E is the 7th fret, then that's a C scale. But if it's the 3rd fret, it's G, right? So how do I play a C scale on a different fret? Does the pattern change?
[editline]09:50PM[/editline]
C doesn't have another root on E. Would that mean, for example, that I find the nearest root C (on 5th string, in this case), and then build the pattern in both directions from that note?

The C major scale, position one, would be that shape but on the eighth fret; the seventh fret of the low E is a B. If you played the same shape but with the root on fret 3 of the low E then yes, that would be the G major scale.
There are 5 major scale patterns which are summarised pretty nicely here, all with roots on different strings. They all interconnect and run up the fretboard, so once you know them all you can essentially "break out", of the scale shapes and just visualise the entire fretboard as one big scale.
Knowing all the notes on the fretboard helps immensely with that as well.

I meant 8th fret, my bad.
Okay. I'm gradually trying to connect everything together. It's hard to learn extensive theory/improvisation using the internet, everyone says something slightly different.
[editline]10:40PM[/editline]
Just to make sure I'm doing the right thing, here.
I can play the guitar, I just don't know anything about the theory behind it.
First, I'm learning the positions of the Major scale. In this particular case, C. Then, my next step is to learn where the other note roots are, and then be able to shift the Major scale around? I know there are other ones besides the major, but I don't care at the moment.
But what then? Modes?
Although the wraparound tailpiece makes it not the greatest from a technical standpoint, I think I've found the nicest looking Les Paul ever;
