Although the wraparound tailpiece makes it not the greatest from a technical standpoint, I think I've found the nicest looking Les Paul ever; Gibson Les Paul Tribute 1952 Thoughts?
I think the tailpiece is overkill.
First, I'm learning the positions of the Major scale. In this particular case, C. Then, my next step is to learn where the other note roots are, and then be able to shift the Major scale around? I know there are other ones besides the major, but I don't care at the moment. But what then? Modes?
Grauch. Modes. I keep remembering I'm supposed to write a tutorial on this shit, but I try so desperately hard to forget it. Theory is scum. Yeah, probably learn the modes, but so much of this shit overlaps that it's kinda pointless to memorize each mode. Like, Dorian. Dorian on D is...whateverlian (Iodine!) on C, which is just the major scale pattern, except the C is missing. Learning a Dorian form is pretty much pointless because it's just another mode in a gimp suit. For all the time you can spend memorizing your vitamins and mineralulds you could just get down a couple basic ones and be fine unless you're playing Air En Poultry on the glock arrangement.
Gibson Les Paul Tribute 1952 Thoughts?
Uglyyy!
I dunno, I kinda like tailpieces on guitars. They look kinda classy.
The only Tailpieces that I would accept are on Gibson SGs
looks just like every other LP just with an extra bit of metal on it

It's like if I'm improvising to a progression that goes from Am Dm Em (i iv v), if I don't go outside the scale and have the solo sound good I'm probably using modes without even thinking about. It's not like I say, I say "oh D minor, now I'm going to play the dorian scale in D". It's more just natural to gravitate to the D minor chord tones and to play all of the same notes of A minor, which is technically playing the dorian scale on D, but it's not that frame of mind at all. I think it would be a lot easier just to say to screw learning modes and to instead just focus on playing the chord tones and sticking to the scale. By doing that, you'll be playing in the correct mode and nothing will be out of key and you won't even know you are using modes. I do think modes are useful when picking out different scales, because it can make a song sound a lot different and bring on less familiar chord progressions, like a i IV v instead of the overused i iv v.
Well the things about modes is that you don't even have to know about them to use them.
Well, yeah. I mean, all that shit still comes down to sets of intervals and which overlap with which.
It's like if I'm improvising to a progression that goes from Am Dm Em (i iv v), if I don't go outside the scale and have the solo sound good I'm probably using modes without even thinking about. I guess, yeah, we're both kinda warning against it, or rather that it's not entirely necessary.

Where would I go and find a 30" scale 6 string guitar neck?
http://www.etguitars.com/ I think he only does Ibanez-style replacements though, shoot him an email.
Really? Sweet. The bones in my right ankle popped out of the skin due to blunt force trauma and is being held in/together with a titanium rod, some plates, and screws. Also I can't hold my guitar for at least a couple more weeks thanks to all the bruises on my chest.
Oh wow, how'd you do that? Got caught under a truck? [editline]10:51AM[/editline]
On a more serious note, that sucks dude.
what
http://www.etguitars.com/ I think he only does Ibanez-style replacements though, shoot him an email.
Hmmm... Bit too expensive. It'd be cheaper to buy a shortscale bass neck, fill up the holes and redrill.
You'd struggle to get good intonation though.
Oh wow, how'd you do that? Got caught under a truck? [editline]10:51AM[/editline] what
No, but the whole front end of my car - and my side/door - got hit at about a steady 40MPH, and my foot was on the fucking floor (which collapsed from the impact). Bones crunched hard and popped out. Hurt like a motherfucker getting extracted from the car. Anyway, back to a guitar-related note, I think I'm going to get a decent 7-string on a payment plan. Anyone got any recommendations ($1,000 USD or less total price cap)?
You'd struggle to get good intonation though.
I figured, but since I'm I'm turning a regular guitar into a baritone, I figured I'd get a bass neck.
Do you guys prefer Ibanez or ESP?
Do you guys prefer Ibanez or ESP?
Fender
Fender

Do you guys prefer Ibanez or ESP?
ESP, hands down.
Do you guys prefer Ibanez or ESP?
I'll have to say Ibanez. Lots bigger variety.
ESP except for the fact that they make very few non-signature or custom 7 and 8 strings.
Are licensed ESP Floyds any good?
