When I play this riff I hold it like it is a power chord, except I remove the third finger and let the first finger mute the middle string. If this is hard you can use the third finger to mute it too.
I hold the strings with my index and my pinky and mute with my middle.
Your guitar still sucks. Save up some money and pick up a nice guitar. It'll pay for itself in the long run.
Not really, a better amp would pay for itself much more than a good guitar in the long run. You could play a PRS Custom through a Spider followed by an Epiphone LP Special through a Mesa Mark V and y'know what? The Epiphone would sound better.
Case in point, Prince still uses a $100 Hondo tele ripoff live from time to time
Think he means a Stratocaster Knockoff such as Squier
Squier is officially licensed to use the Stratocaster name.
So Squier doesn't make 'knockoffs.'
I've been at an American summer school for the past few weeks, where I've been hiring a Squier Strat, and I have to say, it's pretty outstanding. I've used it for practice every day, along with three gigs (two jazz, one rock) where it performed without fault. I've always knocked Squier, but that guitar has shown me how good some of their stuff can be.
Squier has developed a better QC than Fender during the last few years. They even want to bring out a new line of basses and guitars that cost about as much as a HW1 fender.
RATM with a muppet.

I'm assuming his budget is only, like, $500 best, though, because he said he was considering a guitar or a POD. So his amp options aren't real good to begin with.

Are you talking about the guy from that fish powered pedal video?
Because I thought he sounded like a narrator from a Dr. Seuss cartoon.

My amp went for like 700$ and it is excellent.
And yeah, I have no idea what that is.
So i've been playing for 1 and a half years (more like a year and 7 months or something) and last year my dad said he'd get me a new guitar for my 16th. I'm still using a strat ripoff - you know, like, a ~$200 guitar. I still think it's really comfortable. My birthday's approaching and i'm thinking.
Should I get a new guitar, or a POD X3? I really don't mind my guitar. Only thing I dislike is the pickups.
I would still go for the guitar, but $500 can get you a pretty nice half-stack if you look in the right places.
As soon as I get some money I think im gonna get a Peavey Vypyr 30 watt, apparently most of the technical issues have been fixed on it so it seems like a good buy. Is there a better choice in the £200 market? I play mostly metal but a few clean-ish sort of things like Lynrd Skynrd.

Bad spelling?
I hear good things about them, but I prefer the Vox VT15
I hear good things about them, but I prefer the Vox VT15
A mate of mine has a VT30, and it's a really, really good amp for the price. The 15 should be pretty decent then as well.

do you see that chip?
I can see somethings chipped, but I can't for the love of my mother tell what it is
I can see somethings chipped, but I can't for the love of my mother tell what it is
it's my guitar....the edge of it chipped....because my dickhead friend hit it off of my dresser
the bottom right is the volume knob, that black thing
Ok I still can't identify what part of the guitar that is, but yeah that's a mean chip. You'll get him to pay for it, right?
Ok I still can't identify what part of the guitar that is, but yeah that's a mean chip. You'll get him to pay for it, right?
Yeah, he wrote me a check for 800 bucks.
Sucks for him, his fucking fault though.
The refinish alone will cost 500 bucks, so idk how much it's going to be all together.

What did it do on your dresser anyway?
What did do on your dresser anyway?
what?
what?
Why did you have a guitar on top of a dresser, is what I think he means.
Why did you have a guitar on top of a dresser, is what I think he means.
it wasn't on the dresser, my friend was fuckin around with it and turned and slammed it off the corner of the dresser.
it wasn't on the dresser, my friend was fuckin around with it and turned and slammed it off the corner of the dresser.
Ah.
it's my guitar....the edge of it chipped....because my dickhead friend hit it off of my dresser
Use of the word "off" in context implies that the guitar was at one point "on" the dresser, presumably resting flat upon it, and that what your friend did was hit it, launching it from the dresser and to, presumably, the floor or some other object.
Without any verbs like "glanced" or "bounced" in place of "hit", there's nothing to imply contact with the dresser was what caused the damage.
it's my guitar....the edge of it chipped....because my dickhead friend hit it into my dresser
Using "into" would do better to imply it impacted with the dresser, which is what you meant.
You can see how it's a bit confusing.

...thanks XD
Wait...500 for a refinish?
Chicks dig battle scars, leave it.
Unless it was a very expensive very nice looking beauty of a guitar just leave it.

(previous to the chip in the guitar)
I'm not leaving it there, it doesn't look like much on the picture but trust me.
Does it sound as good as a Squier.
Not nearly.
That's why you should keep your shit out of sight.
I don't trust my fucking friends, they'd do the same thing
