Now it buzzes when I don't touch the strings, and emits a loud buzz when I touch the active pickup

Sounds like you have an earthing problem, or maybe interference.

Local guitar store didn't have GRG270B's in, but they ordered one free of charge :D

it's a good guitar.
Me and a buddy of mine have RG350's and his cousing has a GRG270b, and I loved to play on it.
If they ordered it, it's going to be completely new, so, shiny frets, awesome playability.

Also, before complaining about the EdgeIII, learn to set it up properly.
It really helps

Ground wire from the bridge goes to the pots, and the jack is also connected to it

I tried one out today. I loved it, but I spent about 10 minutes just figuring out what all the switches did. If I had the money, I would definitely get one

Even though they sound fucking awesome, that is the only drawback.

You can get the bridge and neck to cancel each other out though if you want to eliminate the hum.

I have some money now, and I have save some money, I should have enough by around Christmas time. Alternatively, and on a completely different tangent, I was thinking about one of these:

Thing is, these are all vastly different guitars, so I guess it's down to which one I like most when I try them out. I like the Jaguar the most though so far.

If you want Dimes exact tone you'd get a Krankenstein. Although, from what I've heard of it, for a solid state budget level amp it's not bad, definitely beats a Spider.

If those are the two you're looking at I'd try out a Thinline Tele. The ones I've played are among my favorite semi-hollow body guitars.
