Abasi, a lot of Opeth, Meshuggah, a good amount of jazz. I'm not going to go find every song that requires 7 or more strings but they exist. No. You couldn't. This is so blisteringly stupid...
you could just transpose a piece if you really think it would help. it's obvious it's not going to change how the music sounds.
distracting, like they receive too much attention, people forget it's the same concept of playing. the concept of playing changes if you have... a 12 stringed guitar for example. I guess 7 strings are good if you like to over-complicate things with 7 string sweeps. but what fun is that?
A lot if you're good enough to pull that off I imagine. I don't see how having more notes to do things with is a bad thing, unless of course, the player finds extended range guitars uncomfortable. It can do all the things a regular six string can and more. The more range you have the more possibilities you have!
you could just transpose a piece if you really think it would help. it's obvious it's not going to change how the music sounds.
Yeah, transpose Meshuggah's music 10 semitones higher, I'm sure that will sound as heavy as it does now.

I just find them a bit silly. you should check out steinberger guitars if you really like a bigger range.
It's okay if you're not into them, and I personally don't own one myself, but I'd like to. For me it's not about playing songs, it's about improvising. And the more range you have the better when you're just fooling around, you know!

I adore the look of Steinbergers ZT3s. What kind do you have?
I adore the look of Steinbergers ZT3s. What kind do you have?
A steinberger ZT3
A steinberger ZT3
That is fucking awesome, man. Do you have any pictures of it? Or, have you already posted pictures in this thread somewhere. lol
Everyone here seems to have multiple guitars When should I consider buying another one?
That is fucking awesome, man. Do you have any pictures of it? Or, have you already posted pictures in this thread somewhere. lol
I don't, but it's a red ZT-3 with transtrem which I picked up a few months ago from musicians friend. probably one of the best investments I've made, it's very light too, most likely due to the lack of the headstock.
you could just transpose a piece if you really think it would help. it's obvious it's not going to change how the music sounds.
What the fucking fuck? A) DURRHURR HAVE A BASS COVER THE LOW BITS OR DETUNE No. Instruments have tones which are unique to the instrument. If I write a piece for one extremely talented male midrange vocalist that covers the entirety of his range and you attempt performing it with a female doing the upper and a baritone covering the low bits, it will sound like shit. If I write a song for piano, and you need to bring in another piano to play a few low tones, it will sound like ass to the audience. Continuity is actually important in several extended-range pieces. Toss in the fact that you may very well need the bassist's unique tone playing something else, overlapping ranges or not, and the idea of just throwing in an extra instrument when you don't need to is retarded. You're making an argument that any composer would laugh at because (shock of all shocks) extended range instruments are used all the time in orchestral music for tonal reasons. B) DERP THE "CONCEPT OF PLAYING" (this is a meaningless phrase) DOESN'T CHANGE UNTIL 12 Uh...yeah. Guitars can be played a myriad of different ways via the wonders of ALTERNATE TUNINGS and STRING GAUGES. The best non-idiotic way to look at it is though we are all playing a derivation of a mystical infinitely-large piano type SUPERGUITAR which has every note ever on it. How many notes you have access to is thus an issue of CONVENIENCE and PREFERRED PLAYING STYLE. So unless you can handle a live set that jumps from Eric Clapton to Rammstein without changing instruments or detuning on a six string I suggest you STOP TALKING ABOUT EXTENDED RANGE INSTRUMENTS, similarly unless you can play Abasi material with identical articulations on a six I suggest you STOP TALKING ABOUT EXTENDED RANGE INSTRUMENTS C) STOP TALKING ABOUT EXTENDED RANGE INSTRUMENTS STOP TALKING ABOUT EXTENDED RANGE INSTRUMENTS
Everyone here seems to have multiple guitars When should I consider buying another one?
you should try to buy different instruments if you haven't already. you can get some pretty cheap ones from your local guitar center. Red ZT3s definitely look the best.
eeee! meshuggah. i like meshuggah. sadly though, I find suffocation's riffs to be heavier. and they use 6 stringed guitars.
Well, more strings doesn't always make heavy, but it definitely is required for a certain style
Well, more strings doesn't always make heavy, but it definitely is required for a certain style
sure, that seems agreeable
that topic has already passed bud.
You made statements. They were false. Horribly so. Laughably so. Unless you can handle being proven wrong when you make falsities I suggest you not post on a public forum. Not everyone takes kindly to a board being shat up with misinformation.
Also, I wonder what it would be like to utilize the transtrem on the ZT-3 in realtime(during a song). Would that be of any use?
you should try to buy different instruments if you haven't already. you can get some pretty cheap ones from your local guitar center.
Well I guess I have three guitars I have a nylon string, and a steel string acoustic both my Mother's which she gave to me And I have my electric guitar which I bought. I honestly prefer electric to any of those three, and I would like a new one but I don't know when I should buy it Or maybe I should upgrade my amp first, idk
What's that, is it like a transponator?
Yeah, you lock to different tunings with the tremolo bar [editline]09:09AM[/editline]
Well I guess I have three guitars I have a nylon string, and a steel string acoustic both my Mother's which she gave to me And I have my electric guitar which I bought. I've been recently fascinated with microphones and loop pedals (with other instruments.)
Yeah, you lock to different tunings with the tremolo bar
That sounds cool, do it Should be useful to jazz things up by switching key and whatnot

Maybe I'll put new pups in mine, and see what we do from there

Steve Vai did some cool stuff with the 7 string.
Steve Vai is the third god
