Unfortunately the Rick tone is based on a lot of things, not just the pickup placement and type. Since Rick's are all maple and neckthrough it gives them a pretty unique tone, as does the stereo output. Unfortunately, RIck's are pretty much designed to be unique :v:
If you're not too attached to your bass you could look online for a used Tokai Rockinbetter, it's a pretty convincing clone, and while I haven't played one I've never had a problem with Tokai before
Ah, thanks. :v: Looks like I'll be sticking with my bass for a while, I want to get a new computer (case means I can't get many parts made after 2004) first.
Truth be told there probably are ways to get it to sound better, but not being a bass expert myself I wouldn't know them. I can vouch for Tokai's though. Though I'm not sure if Tokai's are stereo...
Then again Chris Squire's Rick wasn't so he just made it stereo :v:
Well guys...I busted my speakers while recording bass. Turns out I connected the external speaker output to the comp.
[editline]03:54PM[/editline]
I think the line in and speaker out broke too...
Hah, I have one of them Rebel 4Ks
I have still left it stock, the tone is well balanced for my needs. Sounds great for slap bass with elixir Nanoweb 40-100s on and with the cheapest nickel roundwounds i could find it mellowed out great for use in a country band.
If you turn off the split pickup and pick over the J pickup you get a tone damn close to Jaco Pastorius'.
To get a rick-like tone you would probably do better to tweak the EQ on your amp to favour the Hi-mid frequencies and play slightly closer to the bridge. - Depends what you mean by rick like tone though.
Fuck me, yeah I'm getting one. What model to get?
[editline]08:10AM[/editline]
The X3 looks good, but then I'll have to postpoe getting a new guitar
Oh well, I prioritize this higher
If you get one, consider getting the Live, because as far as I can tell there's no support for pedal controllers on the rackmount of the X3 nor the regular X3. That's assuming you want to use the wah or something, though.
Also consider something like the Vox Tonelab ST. I was considering getting one of those on a whim the other day, every demo I've heard with one so far sounds pretty good and you can still get some tube saturation because it's not all digital.

What?
If you're going to record from your amp directly use the jack that says headphones, record out, or whatever similar name it has, and start recording at low volumes to ensure everything goes well.
Imo the Xiphos is probably the best looking 'extreme' shape guitar, not counting Vs as extreme shapes.
Well it's either the Xiphos or the Jackson Kelly Star, those are badass too:

That guitar seems far more appealing in looks to me.
But I still hate it... It's a Jackson.
Yeah, there's something about Jacksons that makes me strongly dislike them.
Also, I got my new guitar today.

It came with an ESP hard case too.

What a disgusting guitar shape
I'm conservative and can't really enjoy guitars too different from strats, LPs, or whatever the typical ibanez is, so yeah, I reckon the xiphos is a bit... out there. I suppose it also depends on who is playing it. Would probably be mad as a Scandinavian lead

How do you play that without stabbing someone?
Also, resoldered the input on my stratocaster (it's only a squier). I have to say, I prefer single coils over humbuckers.

The same way not smacking someone while playing a strat

Also I researched the problem, it seems the soundcard is fine, but the ports seem to be broken. The speakers work just fine.
Okay, getting the white Iceman is not going as planned. Since it is discontinued(White one is), it is hard as shit to get one. I don't really trust the one ebay ad, and I am also not even sure I want it. This guitar, my next one, is more for lead as my ESP EX is more of a rhythm guitar. I was looking at some other lead guitars for $850 under (850 after taxes and shipping)
I've only been interested by the Schecter Hellraiser V-1 in White. What do you guys think? Do you guys think that guitar is good and worth it for a lead compared to my ESP EX 401DX? I need a lot of suggestions! Also, it has to be in white and thru neck, preferably V shaped or even the Ibanez style RG styles or whatever it is called..
So far I have gone from RR5 (I don't really like the gold hardware, and don't want a floyd rose again for the RR5FR), Iceman (Can't get it in white easily, from what I've read it isn't much of a lead guitar)

What? How is an ESP EX more of a rhythm guitar? What makes it wrong to lead on it? I don't think you know what you're talking about anyway, since the only thing that seem to matter for your new lead guitar is the looks.

There isn't really a thing such as a specific type of guitar designed for lead.

Well, I would like a guitar that has 24 frets first of all, I forgot to add that for the RR5 reason, and my EX has a really nice tone, but the floyd rose makes bending harder than with string-thru necks since it increases the tension. Another criteria I forgot to mention is that it should have a string-thru, or even hardtail, but I would much, much prefer string-thru. Just not another floyd rose.
So here is why:
1. Floyd rose makes bending harder
2. My EX is pretty heavy, it is hard to play even just a few songs and a show (and yes I have played live. Also, this is another reason why I don't want an iceman)
3. I want 24 frets if I am going to be doing more lead
4. Floyd rose makes tuning down an issue
Can you just give me some suggestions instead of saying I don't know what I am talking about? I am open for looks, just not a strat or anything.
well you're still not really asking for a guitar "for lead" you're telling us you had a guitar set up for riddim as you perceive it and want something else
and you just laid out your criteria for "something else"
so now look up ibbys esps epis etc. that fit that bill no advice necessary yet because you know more or less what you want

I guess what I mean by lead guitar and rhythm is that I want to have separate guitars for it, so that when I play rhy parts, I use my EX, and for lead the other.
Okay, well one that has piqued my interest is the Schecter Hellraiser V-1 and C-1, but I think I would go with the V-1. I like the EMG's it has, they are EMG 81-TW(bridge)/EMG-89 (neck), which is nice since I do like EMGs. It also has single coil mode.
To above, I guess it is decided. V-1 it is :buddy:
Entering credit card info now.
Okay, awesome...get it.

This. Schecter is pure bottled win and meets every one of the stated criteria.
What do you guys know about the guitar brand ''Custom''?
My dad has a guitar from them since he was around 14 (He is 59 now).

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/286964/Whatthehell-01.mp3
Q: What guitar/type of guitar do you think this is?
A: [sp]Epiphone SG with 2 Active EMG humbuckers[/sp]
Just bought this motherbitch

£105 including shipping from Germany
I have this little lick here...

The thing is that I'm supposed to play this like a bass player, with the index finger and middle finger while I play the base note with my thumb (every quarter note). Should I use index, middle, index, middle or is there a better way of doing this?
When I do stuff on bass like that I tend to use one finger for one string and one for the other, It really depends how fast it is though because sometimes repeating a note with one finger very fast is just not possible.
Does anyone have the Peavy Vypyr? Particularity the 30watt model?
If so, tell me what it's like, and if you recommend it.
I'm thinking of buying it.
