oi slag, you wanna go? I'm not gonna camp over anymore, fucking knackered from Belgium and I need to detox and catch up with shit
urm, dunno if it's really my scene... might pop up for a laugh through the week or something. I need people to tell me what time they're arriving in Windermere as we need to arrange transport from there. It would also be nice if people could tell me if they're willing to give lifts to people from Windermere to the camp site. At the moment a taxi from Windermere to the camp site is £30. They do up to eight people in a single car, so £3.75 each to get to the camp site. I need to know how many people are planning to use the taxi, and how many people are driving. If there is an overlap, I'm hoping that the people driving can help transport people.
9:33 for me and ffffff-
I think us Londoners are all arriving around 9:30 and will probably be getting a taxi.
Yep, me, Tea, Acezorz, Cherry Gmod, HarryG321 and fffffff- or w/e are arriving at 9:33. There may well be more people arriving. I think a taxi is affordable with that number of people. Jeez though, £30! They are expensive in the North.
They certainly ain't cheap in London either.
It's a rural area. In the city they're the same as down south.
They do up to eight people in a single car
Do they have space for 8 people, plus 8 huge bags?
Do they have space for 8 people, plus 8 huge bags?
We'll manage.

Reckon I can get 4 people + gear + myself in my car (managed it for the Scotland run a few weeks back) shouldn't matter too much if it's a little cosy since it's not far to go, may need to ditch my parcel shelf though.
I hate to sound like a grumpy shithead, but after waking up at 4am and travelling for 4 and a half hours I am not going to wait at Windermere station potentially in the rain for 2 hours.
There's a supermarket and a kitchenware store with a cafe and free internet at it right next to the station, plus the station is sheltered anyway so you should have something to do at least.
I would rather use people's cars as a fallback unless we can give everyone a lift from windermere to the train station. If you don't mind doing that then fair enough, but bear in mind Windermere to the campsite is 14 miles through winding country lanes and a round trip will probably take about an hour. Presuming you do two round trips (for everyone) it'd be like driving from Grizedale to Preston!
Windermere is a Large Town/City, I'm sure we can find somewhere to occupy us for a few hours.
Windermere is a Large Town/City, I'm sure we can find somewhere to occupy us for a few hours.
Small town.
Ah, I got it mixed up with Oxenholme.
Oxenholme is even smaller than windermere :v:

It's obviously unfair if I only take half since the other half are going to have their taxi fare doubled, if you don't want me to offer lifts I won't, but if they're all happy to get in a car with me and some of them are happy to wait behind if I have to make 2 trips, then I don't see it being a problem. Your call/their decision, the offer is there. I understand what I'm taking on I've already looked up the route. (You make it sound like it's better to drive on the motorway, I don't understand what makes you think that)
I hate to sound like a grumpy shithead, but after waking up at 4am and travelling for 4 and a half hours I am not going to wait at Windermere station potentially in the rain for 2 hours.
If you can come up with an alternative then I'd be happy to hear it but at the moment that's the only way we can get people to the campsite. Possibilities; Car(s) ferrying people + Cheap + Simple - Multiple trips would take hours for one car - Potentially dangerous drive through country lanes - farmers are dickheads - Dependant on driver's willingness Using the bus to get to Hawkshead then taxi / Moderate cost - Bus fare and then taxi fare + Doesn't rely on anyone - Complex route - Multiple bus changes - Potential for people getting lost - Will take a long time (More than 1h 30m) - Bus timetables Using the lake cruise and then taxi / Haven't researched fully, so approximation of costs - Expensive (ticket costs and taxi fare) - Dependent on cruise timetable Getting a taxi from Windermere Station + Cheap (£3.75pp) + Simple + One trip - Waiting time of 2h for some
What time are you getting there Metallics? It's bit much to ask someone who's driving to arrive at 9:30 just for our convenience.

Only need to worry about changing lanes and that's optional. With country lanes you don't know what is more than 10 metres in front of you and the people who live around there pelt their landrovers down it at 50mph. I've got a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth with regards to country lanes as I accidentally took one once when coming back from carlisle as opposed to the motorway. It took me about an hour twenty to get to carlisle, nearly 3 hours to drive back! Took me all the way through ullswater and up that giant hill with a road. My poor smart car!! Country lanes every moment is different, anticipating the obstacles and making appropriate changes to cope with the ever changing conditions (and the more appeasing scenery) is something I enjoy.
