I'm new here and bought a Nikon D3200 the other day, needed an entry-level DSLR that takes HD video for college, a photographer I know recommended it. Good investment?

If you got a good price, yeah it's great for entry level.
So my Tokina 16-28 has regained its AF and communication with the camera, however the inner elements are all fogged up/have residue on them.
Can anyone recommend a decent lens repair place in London? I've been googling but the places I've found are very vague as to if they can repair Tokina lenses or not, they all just say canon/nikon repairs.

I'll be lurking around here from now on I think, getting a little more interested in photography since I bought a proper camera.
Yeah, you won't find better for the price.

How badly are the elements fogged? I'd recommend getting in touch with Tokina's customer support just for advice on certified repair places, though it might not involve external parts in which you would be alright. I'd check keh.com , they might be able to give you a quote. Lensrrentals as well is good I've heard. Fingers crossed for just element cleaning and reassembly.

i wouldn't be 100%, nikon video is pretty lacking (the d3200 doesn't have a full manual setting)

?
in what ways?

i know someone with a d3200 and for the life of her she can't get full manual. you set some settings, then you go into video it's fine as soon as we panned near something black it ramped the iso right up, despite not being on auto.
isnt the 600d popular for budget video making?
if you know how to get full manual, we'd greatly appreciate if you'd tell us how

incredibly.

it is fully manual as far as i know, some settings can't be changed directly in live view (due to a bug) but other than that, i don't know what you're talking about. there is an auto iso setting, so that may be what's happening
of course, the manual movie mode has to be set in the menus, but i'm sure you've noticed that
just tested, even with auto iso on, i'm not experiencing anything like that :o

yeah, we were sure it was all manual but it kept changing. not being able to change during recording is the lamest thing ever how is that actually usable. your shutter wear would be crazy if you're constantly going in and out.
i think the nikonhacker guys ironed out that bug on some other nikon dslr's, but it doesn't really bother me that much; it's a little annoying having to go out of lv to change it because that takes like half a second to switch
though mind you, that's only for the aperture. everything else is dandy
Being unable to change the aperture in live view is a rather big annoyance. In general, Nikon video sucks in Low light compared to canon's.

which is why its a godsend to have screw type AF lenses

woops thought that would merge, sorry for double post
shape is odd (thin as shit though) but the 30mm lens and foveon are a legendary combo
great things will come from that awkward monster
ff foveon????????
That camera excites me.
What's special about the sensor?
I know it has three layers that capture different colours of light, just like film, but I don't see how it would create better results than a traditional sensor where the processor algorithm compensates for the lack of each pixel being able to detect every colour. I know it has an advantage of resolution.
ff foveon????????
If the Sigma DP series cameras had full frame they would actually have a niche.
Uhh wouldn't capturing those colours on different layers allow for more versatile post processing??
Uhh wouldn't capturing those colours on different layers allow for more versatile post processing??
But you'd still be capturing those colours on a regular sensor too.
Uhh wouldn't capturing those colours on different layers allow for more versatile post processing??
not really, but you do have improved image quality (compared to Bayer) because you're skipping the whole step of demosaicing (which involves interpolating sensor data, and there's no standard algorithm for this, some camera manufacturer have better ones than others and do their best to keep them secret)
[editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
a bad demosaicing algorithm can give you purple fringing

At first I thought it would be a panorama camera or something. Now that would have been cool and exciting. I think that now looking at the specs sigma should have waited longer before realeasing it.
I have no idea who would buy a 75mm equiv fixed focal length camera, a bit odd they didnt make a 35mm equiv, but 28mm is close enough I guess.
My first impreession of Sigma DP2 is strange and useless. Totally no interest in it.

facepunch critics corner
It's true though, what were they thinking? They could have had a total winner if they changed a few things.
Awkward shape as well.
stop hating on Sigma mane, at least they tried thinking outside of the box.
even thought hey fucked up big time bhahahaahahh
maybe they tried to think outside the box but couldn't, so just settled on changing the shape of the box instead
Best explanation for the weird design:

I am still skeptical of their magical sensor technology, I don't really see how its better than normal ones that use bayer interpolation or whatever its called
