[QUOTE=paul simon;43975987]Fucking internet explorer. Back in basic web design, I was fairly good and undoubtedly the best in my class (didn't take much), but my websites would always fuck up on Internet Explorer somehow. :v:[/QUOTE] some websites even work best on IE but horribly broken on Chrome or Firefox
Speaking of HTML coding I just remembered my only experience with it being from MySpace in like 2006, I found this code where you could embeds a 1x1 video that would auto play on people's profiles. I put one on someone's page that had this song "Gay Cowboy" and it would play every time someone visited his profile and he eventually put up a big disclaimer saying that he was not a gay cowboy and didn't know why it was there Don't think that will help me in the photo world though

use 1x1 photos from your photo repertoire to construct a large photo of a gay cowboy. then go place it on that person's fb profile
i think my dad got me an sb-700 speedlight as a late christmas/birthday present [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] and he says I need a windows laptop to work with him so he wants to buy me one [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] anyone recommend a windows 7 laptop around $800?
A Lenovo ThinkPad, second hand, I use a T500 for all my editing and stuff, which should be around 400usd (I think). There are newer models out there, but I have no experiance of them.
IBM Thinkpad, usually around $50, if you're lucky. Install Gentoo or Arch Linux, and never see the light of day again. jk Really depends on what you're going to be using this laptop for.
I got my camera ultra wet today on accident. I'm just leaving it out next to a window (cool breeze coming through) with the battery compartment and CF card compartment open. Is this fine for the camera. Should i put it in rice later on or something

(if you can find one) for ~$800, i'd suggest a: ASUS X750JA-DB71 - $700 on Amazon [url]http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X750JA-DB71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Dark/dp/B00DXFF6EO/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1392976380&sr=1-4&keywords=laptop#productDetails[/url] [b]Cool:[/b] - 8gb DDR3 - can't upgrade the RAM due to CPU limitations - USB 2.0 & 3.0 - i7-4700HQ @ 2.40ghz but turbo to 3.40ghz (quad-core, 8 threads) - 1TB storage for images/videos, but on a 5400rpm HDD, probably a 16mb cache *le sadface* - 4th Gen Haswell CPU (i believe) which means GREAT BATTERY LIFE FOR A LAPTOP (i think, i know Haswell didn't do too much for desktops, but i think it increased battery life within a laptop, and runs cooler or some shit) [b]Not Cool:[/b] - Not 1080p - Not sure if it supports SSD/Hybrid Drive (like that WD Black² looks cool as heck imo) - No discrete graphics (Intel 4400/4600 series graphics isn't too bad tho, not sure if 4400 or 4600 comes w/ that chip tho) - Windows 8 (which isn't horrible, but if you prefer Win 7, you're going to need to get it by *other means*) (you could also dual-boot OSX if you still like your mac environment) i would actually recommend doing a clean install of windows to get rid of any bloat-ware left by manufacturer(s). just make sure you have your drivers on hand if you decide to do that. if you can't find something you're happy with, i could also do a mITX build for you for around $800, if you don't mind transporting that back and forth between your work-place, or even leaving it there. anyhow, this is what i could find, and i'm too lazy to look for anything else. happy hunting. CPU cooler bc mITX is compact, don't want the chip to heat up, not sure if stock heat-sink will do. MOBO w/ H87 chipset, supports on-board video, RAM upto 1600mhz, and has built in wifi. ;D 16gb memory bc video editing/image editing, dual channel functionality (2 x 4GB will also suffice), and anything past 1600mhz isn't supported with this mobo. SSD for your OS, video/image editing software, and whatever else. (optional) HDD for 1TB storage with rendered vids, pics, music, blah blah. Thought the case was p/ cool (haha), feel free to go for another. PSU is semi-modular for cable-management, quite the bargain, and low-power since this build doesn't need much. though, the mobo does have one PCIE slot incase you want a graphics card down the road. hope auto-merge works, tried to edit last post, wouldn't let me.
I'd say steer clear from cheaper Asus notebooks because their casing isn't sturdy and won't last for years if you travel around a lot. Get a sturdy Lenovo with some decent specs that will last you for a few years.
intel iris/iris pro graphics are actually pretty darn good. stands up to dedicated mobile cards quite well for the massively reduced power usage/heat and price [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] DX:HR is chuggin along at 60fps on medium @ 1920x1200 on my iris 5000 and that's pretty good if you ask me. and i7 isn't the end-all solution either; if you don't need it, you won't really see the performance boost from it. especially considering an i7 can be a pretty hefty jump from a comparable i5. especially when choosing the i5 means the difference between last gen graphics and latest gen [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] [QUOTE=dwt110;43978625]i think my dad got me an sb-700 speedlight as a late christmas/birthday present [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] and he says I need a windows laptop to work with him so he wants to buy me one [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] anyone recommend a windows 7 laptop around $800?[/QUOTE] don't you have a macbook? you could just bootcamp or smth [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] also pls stick with WD for platter based storage, seagate is awful
Quick bit of advice when it comes to drying stuff out in rice, do NOT put the camera/lens directly into the rice, make sure its on a raised platform above it, or in a separate bag which is open to allow the moisture to escape. When my Tokina 16-28 got water damaged I forgot and just chucked it straight into a bag of rice. 3 days later and all the starch and dust from the rice had gotten all inside the lens, leaving a gooey starchy mess. Ended up costing £180 to repair, the entire lens had to be taken apart and washed for several hours due to the starch/dust solidifying everywhere.
silica gel works well too

A large portion of the case near the charger cracked and warped, along with his CPU getting damaged. We had to get him a new laptop. If he were just to game, I'd suggest an i5, seeing as how most games these days don't utilize hyper-threading. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by, "especially when choosing the i5 means the difference between last gen graphics and latest gen." The lastest gen of Intel, Haswell, both the i5 4670(k)/i7 4770(k) both sport Intel HD Graphics 4600 series. I believe only Ultrabooks sporting a Haswell i5/i7 have the HD 5000 series, aka Iris. Actually, scratch what I said above. A multitude of ultrabooks sport GT3 5200/5100/5000 graphics. While high-end notebooks sport GT2, with 4600 being the fastest, 4400 being second, and 4200 being slowest. I think GT3 being faster, but runs hotter, while GT2 being slower, but more efficient. As for him running bootcamp, "at least significantly better than my 2.4ghz core 2 duo/4gb ram 2010 macbook pro", I think he wants a spec upgrade too. edit: if you're on a budget laptop, pick two: Low Price Performance Build quality if you want the last two, save up, and buy a nice as hell zenbook, or ultrabook. also, avoid HP/Compaq (overheating pieces of shit), Lenovo G series (bad build quality), System76 (expensive Clevo/Sager rebrands)
I'm looking for a 50mm lens for my 600d, the obvious choice is the Canon 50mm f1.8 but I noticed you can convert an old FD 50mm f1.8 to fit EOS. Is this a good idea, I don't mind if I have to manually focus.

glass mount adaptors suck unless you get something like the metabones
The nifty fifty will do fine. But if you want to do videography then go for a vintage lens that doesn't require a converter with glass like an Olympus OM Zuiko for example.

Build quality makes a huge difference inbetween these two lines. As do prices ofcourse.

Four!
We have macs in our school. Is there any particular reason why photoshop looks entirely botchered on mac? Like, it's made out of floating windows and you can see other stuff behind it and jesus fuck who designed that mess. [editline]22nd February 2014[/editline] Luckily I get to use my own Win8 Laptop there. And my desktop.
..what version of photoshop is it? it used to look that like that on all platforms are you sure it's not just a custom workspace setup?
[QUOTE=.Lain;44008510]..what version of photoshop is it? it used to look that like that on all platforms are you sure it's not just a custom workspace setup?[/QUOTE] I've only seen it look like that on Mac. I think it's Photoshop CS5. I consider myself quite knowledgeable and good at photoshop, but whenever someone in school asks me to help and they're using one of the Macs, I often get very confused due to the incredibly strange user interface.
