here is just a high ISO sample in a generally poorly lit bedroom of mine, its actually going down as you scroll down the page so its 6400, 3200 and 1600

i don't think i've ever shot at 100 iso
You can't even shoot at iso 100 on some cameras like the Panasonic gh3
My camera has more dynamic range at 800 than 200 so I never shoot below 800.
Weird.
ISO is super dependent on the lighting situations though. usually it's used at night, which is when it will look the shittiest. that's why testing websites just show the high ISO tests in decent lighting, which makes high ISO look really good. but it's not a realistic high ISO situation, so it's less "real world" in a sense. even base ISO is noisy if it approaches almost black levels.
for instance, take these photos. all shot with the same camera, processed in LR5. different reductions were applied to each, but it does show how important tonal values and sharpness are to apparent noise.

God there's a Sony a900 on keh for $820 it's so tempting and so FF
Meh ;(
But I really want to use my FD and G glass so I would be losing out on that, and my FF A mount lineup isn't really worth it (mostly because my 24 1.4 is manual focus and there's no live view)
been eyeing the 6d for a while now
i wonder what lens i should get for it first

EF 1200 5.6L
A crack addiction would be cheaper than that thing.
what's your current line up
i own a sony a230 with various cheap sony and minolta lenses, but i mostly use the nikon d5100 that i've borrowed from my school.
i also own some old canon lenses, but they aren't going to fit on the 6d so i could sell those off.
buy a 50 1.4 and a 35 1.4 and an 85 1.8
i think i'll just go with the 50 as my first lens and i think there's a 85 at my school that i can borrow.
My 24-70 pretty much lives on my 6D but it's a bit expensive so I'd highly recommend the sigma 35 1.4, I've found I far prefer it over the 50/85 focal length most of the time, especially for general walkaround candid stuff

what's your thoughts on buying refurbs? i could save a little dosh on that 6d.

Nothing speaks against it because it has been tested and you get warranty as well.
it'll save me some $$$ which i could put towards a lens instead
I bought a refurb Fuji X10 the other weekend.
Came through bretty gud. The alu lens cap has some scuffs on it and for some reason the thumb grip appeared to be held on with double sided tape (?!) so immediately fell off. Was able to reattach it with contact adhesive but that was kinda weird.
On the flipside, when my dad bought his last camera refurb (some Olympus top end point and shoot) it was pristine, literally new.

i would just return it if there's such a big flaw with the camera i guess.

Exactly. Proper refurbs you're pretty much secure to get a refund for any fault that occurs within 21 days of purchase.
Was half expecting to have to return the X10 because when they were first released there was a sensor fault that meant bright light points would render as flat white disks.

free anamorphic camera/lens??
free anamorphic camera/lens??
Don't know what you mean. The Fujifilm X10 can't shoot anamorphic.
so lets say I were to replace my kit lens. am I better off with a Tamron 17-50 or 28-75? I used the 17-50 and I like it and I understand the 28-75 is kinda like a kit lens for a FF camera but I like that it goes out to 75, not so much that its only 28 on the wide end which is a 42mm on crop. I know sigma makes a 17-70 but its variable aperture :(

i wish they had a 24-70 that wasnt almost $1000
Tamron 17-50. The extra wide is much better than the extra reach.
The sigma is a great lens too, f4 is prettt fast for 70mm so it's not that big of a deal being variable aperture.

24-70mm isn't worth it on a crop. You'll be wondering why you didn't choose wider when the right scene presents itself.
I had a 16-85mm VR, it was great, only sold it because I switched to Fuji.
