We already know that, but the whole point is nobody has ever made a wide angle lens with this principle.
I'm not sure its realistic enough as to get a wide angle view would result in the outer mirrors angeled backwards quite a lot and the size of the forward mirror would need to be that big that it would bloke most of the middle of the picture

So, this summer in June I'll be going on a vacation to somewhere I don't remember the name of, but I'm told it'll be quite scenic, and I'm there for a whole week, so I'm considering shelling out $100 some odd dollars to rent a lens. I have a T2i, 18-55, 50 1.4, and 70-200 f4, but I can't decide if I should rent a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 or a 85 f/1.2L. I'd do both if I could but I'll likely only be able to afford one. Any thoughts, or should I get something else? I have no idea what kind of photography I'll be doing the most of, but I prefer portrait to landscape and I'm a complete whore for large apertures and shooting wide open.
I would rent a sigma 24mm 1.8, it will provide decent low light, a good ~38mm equiv so a nice semi wide lens. That makes it more versatile than a 35mm would be on crop in case you want to do indoor stuff or want to do low light landscapes. If you are more portrait oriented as you say, I would say the sigma 35mm, or even the sigma 30mm since you will be on crop and it won't really matter much as far as IQ. An 85mm 1.2 would be really too tight for general stuff, you have your sig 50mm which would fulfill the same purpose and if you want longer then just use the 70-200.
The 18-55 EFS kit isn't accounting for sensor crop, so if I were to set it to ~24 or ~30/~35 that would be similar enough to approximate all of these different focal lengths, yes? But anyways, I'd rather stick with the Sig 35 1.4 or better, because it's a rental I'm planning to splurge and get a really nice lens just for the heck of it, even if the image quality wouldn't make all that great of a difference. That's one of the reasons I wanted to rent the L 85 1.2, it's a $2k lens that's $140 to rent for 10 days, and I just want to play around with one because I'm actually considering selling all of my gear by the end of the summer. I really am starting to hate photography so this would kind of be my last ditch effort to rekindle my passion for it.

It would be silly to add the crop factor onto it.
Good, the more I thought about it the less sense it made for EFS lenses to be different.
Good, the more I thought about it the less sense it made for EFS lenses to be different.
Oh the 18-55mm EF-S is basically the crop sensor equivalent to a standard zoom which is genearally 24-70mm.
mirrorless filmmaking just gets cooler all the time http://www.fundedbyme.com/projects/1740/holymanta-internal-nd-lens-adapters/ variable ND filters built into an adapter! hopefully they can make an electronic version of this for EF mount, seems like a very cool solution for adapted lenses for filmmaking, for documentary work especially.
I'm about to buy this and flip it for some extra ca$h good deal, right?
Very good deal, you should be able to sell if for at least $300 I think. It has high prices on eBay but most are buy it now, but a few bids were around $300 upwards Looks like a type 3 or 4 which is good http://web.archive.org/web/20080215000125/http://www.geocities.com/amadeusgould/Nikon_Club_Ned/Nikkor_1-2_55_mm_Eng_01.html

I just got Canon 400D, I am sure many will say it's not a high end professional but well.. I am only at entry level, been using Samsung GX 1 so comparing to that this is great. I got only 18-55mm lens, I heard 50mm is a beast (great) is it? or any other recommendations?

Get a feel for the camera and get the eye of the photographer. Your next purchase should probably be a 50mm, or a 28mm/35mm
welp I bid on a strange impulse, what do you guys think? Decent deal?
it seems really expensive for a mf camera sorry [editline]26th April 2013[/editline] i mean unless that camera is like a collectible or in really good condition or something
it seems really expensive for a mf camera sorry [editline]26th April 2013[/editline] i mean unless that camera is like a collectible or in really good condition or something
fom what I've seen MF cameras (esp. 6x7) are generally pretty expensive RZ67's go for around the same price [editline]26th April 2013[/editline] I do feel like I overpaid though :(
welp I bid on a strange impulse, what do you guys think? Decent deal?
Decent deal. Hope it is in good working condition. The lens would be too long for me but besides that it's an amazing camera. Hope you will post some images made with it. Mid format scans always look good.
Ask blazefresh, he has the same camera and lens iirc
105 2.4 sure produces some nice borkeh
Ask blazefresh, he has the same camera and lens iirc
67ii I believe
