is the 50mm f/1.8g's focus ring supposed to feel like trash plastic on plastic?
I don't think so.
I would like a surface pro personally if I had to buy a mobile machine. I went through a macbook pro stage 4 years ago and it was the most expensive yet most unreliable piece of tech I ever owned. it was so well built, the keyboard and trackpad was great but everything else was meh, I tried to like it but I missed having a desktop. macs were not capable for high end gaming, bf3 on all low sub at like 1024x768 melted the gpu twice, applecare was pretty neat tho. for most people I think its a good buy, I'm one of few I know who are used to powerful/fast computers so it wasn't a big draw to me.
would it though? carrying around a surface, mouse and keyboard sounds like a lot more hassle than one item that combines all of those and can do so much more
well the keyboard part can snap on as if it was a laptop form factor. The mouse is optional. It is more portable than carrying that thinkpad AND a nexus 7 tablet.
Can anyone recommend a good negative scanner that's relatively cheap?
hahahaha [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] epspooom
I got my Epson v500 for $5 from goodwill (took a bit to find a power cable, set me back another $2.50, and then another $20 for a neg holder), keep your eyes peeled for one there. People donate them because they think they are regular scanners.
scanners hate him [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] weird old trick etc
Come on Fuji, release the same 23mm f/2 pancake lens that the X100S uses for X mount. The 23mm f/1.4 is too big and expensive :v:.

It's mirrorless so the distance from the sensor doesn't matter.
the rear element on the x100 is 5.6mm away from the sensor, which is a lot shorter than the ~18mm that the X mount is. the element can be designed recessed more into the mount and have the microlenses on the sensor match giving better corner resolution, whereas the rear element might not actually fit onto a regular X mount. the glass on front of the sensor is matched the the element on the rear of the lens, something that isn't really possible with a regular sensor because it has to be designed to work with a lot of lenses, not just one. here's a chart fuji made referencing the microlens array, and more information on the design http://www.finepix-x100.com/en/story i mean they COULD make a new optical design just for the X series, but i don't think they would. i'm just saying it's much more than a cut and paste job.
oh man, didn't realise such a thing as the rx1r existed, looks damn cool [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] if only it wasn't twice the price of a 6d :v:

The microlens thing is something I forgot about. The 18mm vs 5.6mm difference is probably to make room for the curtain shutter rather than the leaf shutter. There's always the 27mm f/2.8 lens, which is probably the smallest lens they could make with an aperture that' still large enough to be useful. Full frame in your pocket.

Optical designs are becoming more of an interest to me, so I like to learn whatever I can. Yeah the shutter does factor in quite a bit, but in general closer nodal designs can achieve higher image quality theoretically (apparently) and make a much smaller size. The 27mm is pretty darn small, most pancakes I've seen are equivalent to around 40mm in FF terms, so that must be the sweet spot for that. It's pretty close! And replaced the useless mode dial with a shutter speed dial.

They left off the finder to reduce size and offer a choice of OLED or glass, but it's too bad the OLED one is so much more than their previous one (the Nex 5n one was like $250 and exactly the same). I prefer a mode dial to a shutter, that way you can choose 0.3 stops or 0.5 stops in the menu so you get more options. The price of accessories are atrocious though, Sony isn't quite Leica luxury yet.

Plenty of identical Chinese copies on eBay for ~£3.

Limited edition run of 10. Really hope I'm not the only one who buys one here
i've ordered 3
umm how could that be possible when i ordered all 10?
Well I have mine reserved when they were designing it
I'm at a stand still gear wise after looking into a bunch of options. Now considering the x100s.
promo video hurts my eyes
I'm at a stand still gear wise after looking into a bunch of options. Now considering the x100s.
RX1 is better Zeiss rules \m/ it's smaller too Just order a Maxxum 9000 with a motor drive and 35-105mm mino lens for $85. I have one now but the screen holder is messed up so it's useless for my split prism, and I really need spot metering with the 24 because too many pictures got their exposures messed up. Hopefully selling the lens will make this investment basically free.
I'm at a stand still gear wise after looking into a bunch of options. Now considering the x100s.
See what the next X-Pro brings. [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] Or just go full EVF and get an X-T1 [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] WTB 27mm pancake so I can pocket it.
