take out the battery and make sure it's all charged up? spilled water shouldn't cause it not to boot, regardless of sealing or not.
battery just fizzed and smoked and shit when I put in a new one fuck me [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] it booted up and then fizzed and I turned it off and pulled out battery as fast as possible [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] is the camera dead forever or just the batteries?
that sounds not good, i would assume it's a battery problem then. did the battery itself get wet?
the battery that was in the camera when it got watered didnt do anything weird it just stopped working, the second one (nikon OEM one) fizzed and smoked the battery compartment didnt appear to have any water in it and it would be weird if water even got into it from the back into the battery area right now i put it in a zip locked plastic bag with some desiccants
yeah that sounds like the best course of action for the moment, try not to panic too much in the meantime.
im just concerned because if its the battery and both are now assumed broken how do I test it again? [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] Ugh why does shit like this always happen to me
That's strange because it should be weather sealed, but I don't know if the underside is (like the battery compartment). Send it to Nikon? A smoking battery should never happen, even if you spill water on it. Edit: I checked, the battery compartment is sealed.

I have use it in the rain twice and there was water all over it and I didnt use a rubber gasket lens and it was fine but suddenly getting water on just the back panel fucks it up [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] i filed a repair/warranty thing [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] now im reading all these stories and watching these videos of people who soaked their entire non weather sealed DSLR underwater for like several seconds and they fixed it by just soaking it in rice for 24 hours :( [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] popped in the battery that was originally in it when it got wet and it works and boots up but the screen is all staticky and weird and shit so i got that going for me now
throw it in with some silica gel
bought a maxxum 9000 off ebay and it arrived in completely trashed condition. i was welcomed from opening the box with overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke, missing items, broken things on the camera, and the lens was scratched and fungusy don't fuck with me sellers i know more about your items than you i will end you!!!
[QUOTE=Trogdon;44225273] i will end you!!![/QUOTE] Do it.
i contacted them with my 1000 character list of complaints, so i'm waiting on a reply. on the page it says they accept returns but i have to pay for postage, but that's not happening because it's not nearly what they were describing. if they think i won't notice little shit like mirror alignment and dial response then they are messing with the wrong dude
price range estimate to fix the D7100 is $76-$300 something dollars + shipping. should I send it in ASAP or let it sit in bag for a few more days? [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] afaik everything works except for the screen is all weird, let me take a video to show you [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] [video=youtube;OOKTb8jeqfw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOKTb8jeqfw[/video]
Hey, magic smoke literally came out of your camera, that's signs of a deeper issue.
it came out the battery
yeah the screen shouldn't be doing that at all. i would let it sit just a bit longer just to see if it hopefully comes back to working condition, but otherwise send it in.
try trying another battery
im guessing the battery that shorted out also somehow fucked up the screen but in a day or two im gonna bring it to my local camera store to see if they can fix it because I hate waiting and I would be so sad sending my camera away for a week or two to get fixed at nikon [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] i cant tell if its actually getting better or im just imagining it [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] it definitely takes pictures and autofocuses and shit so thats all good [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] lesson learned there's a reason why nikon has no guarantee on their weather sealing
so after my maxxum 9000 debacle i decided to grab the one i have out of my closet with the messed up focusing screen holder (mint otherwise) and frakenstein it back to life. i have 2 broken maxxum 7000's so i think out of them all i can manage to bend one of the cages into place so it lines up with my split prism properly i mean when they sit in my closet they aren't doing much so might as well fuck up some old technology and frustrate myself when i can't do it properly!
turn it into a [URL="http://juliusvonbismarck.com/bank/index.php?/projects/fulgurator-tech/"]fulgurator[/URL]
A screen replacement is fairly cheap, you can look into doing it yourself if you can make sure it is the screen that is faulty.
[QUOTE=paul simon;44228357]A screen replacement is fairly cheap, you can look into doing it yourself if you can make sure it is the screen that is faulty.[/QUOTE] i dont see how it would be the screen that is like half working and half faded out white, i have a feeling a cable that connects the screen shorted out or something but if it doesn't fix itself in the desiccants by saturday im taking it in to get repaired. im trying to avoid letting my mom find out because she would kill me so I can't really mail it without her finding out [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] oh also the screen colors are inverted/negative or whatever [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] WAIT ITS RETURNING TO NORMAL AFTER HITTING IT A FEW TIMES [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] slapping the bottom against my palm changes the colors
It's a feature [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] So my Maxxum 9000 had a bent focusing screen holder, and the rod that it was attached to was bent too. Replaced them both with spares and scratched the mirror and prism ;) Hoping it works well! Just need to load up the screen tomorrow and do some infinity tests against the AF motor
Yeah nvm I got the mirror locked up and it's broken now lol Life goes on, still have a working 7000 so I can't complain too much
fuckin film paper is so expensive does anyone have paper experience?
[QUOTE=notlabbet;44232044]fuckin film paper is so expensive does anyone have paper experience?[/QUOTE] What do you want to know?
what paper is best for a low price, what paper has good results from experience basically.
[QUOTE=notlabbet;44232327]what paper is best for a low price, what paper has good results from experience basically.[/QUOTE] Ilford RC Glossy is probably the best value for the quality.
Foma makes excellent paper as well. And it's cheaper than both ilford and kentmere.
[B]it works!!!!!!!!![/B]
