Just a regular 5-6x zoom. HTC One cant zoom in that great and take good pictures.
Sounds like a compact camera would fit you well.
Got myself a used telezoom 70-300mm with ultrasonic drive motors for focussing for 230€. It feels really awesome to hold it in my hands! [t]http://i.imgur.com/LzQ3djj.jpg[/t] It's pretty big. The kit lens felt hilariously light afterwards.
Sounds like a compact camera would fit you well.
Yeah thats what i want. Sorry for the confusion :zoid:
i dont think there are any greats in compact-land that stand head and shoulders above the rest but i dont really know that much about that sector so correct me thanks x
For below $100 you'd probably want one of the Canon Powershots. I don't have anything concrete to back this up, but if I remember correctly, up to $250 or $300 Canon will be the best bet. Biggest bang for your buck might be Powershot S110 at $200 right now though, so if you actually wanna play around with photography instead of just getting a camera for your trip but don't want film, maybe try this.

Thanks everyone!
buy an older used dslr or something to get started [editline]24th March 2014[/editline] also um the htc one camera is pretty amazing. what do you mean by it not being good far away?
Ive been researching around and reading about those Powershots and they sound pretty nice and sufficient for me. Thanks everyone!
most cameras in that range are going to be pretty similar in terms of features and image quality, i would go into a shop and check out which one feels best to you.
I might sell my X-E2 and get an X100S since I've only used the 18mm f/2 and nothing else, would rather have a thinner camera and 23mm f/2. Anyone have one? Opinions?
Get one. I think it would suit you quite nicely.
how do I stop LR5 from automatically adjusting my photos as soon as I import them? I load them in and when I click on one it shows the original NEF looking all dandy with these beautiful reds and then as soon as it un-pixelates the reds all turn to an icky yellow and its really annoying since afaik I dont have it set to do anything when images load in
TL;DR u cant
happens to me as well, because lightroom changes the tone preset from the one used in the camera (canon neutral in my case) to adobe standard you could always change it back and copy that as a preset and apply to everything else before you do any further editing
Use ACR.
don't shoot raw
yeah I guess ill shoot jpeg since ken rockwell does too and hes a pro
What's wrong with ACR? It's got the same stuff as Lightroom minus the automatic categorization tools. If you're just wanting to edit, it's the same.
yeah I guess ill shoot jpeg since ken rockwell does too and hes a pro
no i mean if you your photos to look like how they look on your camera LCD or on the RAW preview then you can't shoot raw or you can, but use EOS digital to convert it using canon algo's to make it look like the jpeg preview [editline]25th March 2014[/editline] i didnt meant to rate you disagree oops
Lol GJ. Anyway, shoot jpg if you want pics on your pc to look the same as on camera. Every company has different ways of processing raws, and you're not going to get the same processing that your camera gives on a PC no matter what, unless you maybe use the first party software then convert to TIFF or DNG.
I wish you could embed more stuff in RAW files, like distortion correction and general corrections. My 16-50 is corrected perfectly in camera, but not in LR or ACR because it's wavy. It's possible to do somehow, my RX100 has distortion correction embedded in the RAW files
yeah I guess ill shoot jpeg since ken rockwell does too and hes a pro
A proper fix: Shoot a couple of pictures with jpeg + raw. import them to lightroom make a preset for the raw pictures that makes it look exactly like the jpeg version use that preset when importing images.

's auto distortion correction works perfectly because it has the lens data and so the distortion data for it programmed in, so it should correct them if u find the right button

i've never had any of them not be p much perfect though idk if it has snoy data in it though but it should? and there's probs someone anal enough to compile the distortion info for your lens on the internet, you can plug that in [editline]25th March 2014[/editline]
TL;DR u cant
half way down the op post in that link it says u can using the DNG profile setter??
I'll have to look into it more I guess. My 16-50 has wave distortion (mustache) that I can't seem to correct with sliders. I can flatten the center or the sides, but never both. It looks good for people shots (the rounder center makes people look more natural) but for straight lines it can be really bad.
also in LR when I go to set auto lens corrections using tamron lenses I have to pick the tamron category in the drop down menu before it automatically finds the lens
Ive been told by a co-worker (bestbuy employee) that we sell something called a film 2 sd that you can take 35mm film fresh out of the canister and it scans it to an sd card. I was always under the impression that taking the film out of the canister before its developed ruins it. What gives? Doesn't the light fuck it up?
if you're talking about ion film 2 sd then it is just a normal film scanner that outputs to sd card (so the film must be developed)
Thats what I thought, she was a little coonfusing.
