dwt, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Especially since you don't have a job. Your camera body just nearly shit itself on you, keep your money for a month at LEAST to be sure it's not going to die completely with you not having any money to replace it.
i honestly dont understand what you mean yes I understand what you are referring to but I dont see how its suddenly going to shit on itself
I've been fucked in the ass enough times by Murphy's law to know that having a safety net is better than having a new flash and a fucked camera body.
It doesn't help that I've been up since like.. 5 in the morning yesterday
I'm the worlds clumsiest person, so I always place everything in the safest places, always use the strap when I'm photographing. Especially making scenery and moving stuff. I've broken way too many things.
does anyone here tape over the brand logos on their gear?
Why would I?
only if i had anything that's not canon because i would be too ashamed
i see people say that taping over gear makes it less noticeable to thieves and makes it more stealthy when you try to take a picture of someone since there is no glaring white logo for them to see but it all seems kinda silly to me.

Most 16 year olds are desperate for something as good as a D7100 and the 18-105mm. You have semi pro gear and its not going to hold you back in any way. [editline]29th March 2014[/editline] Literally every post you make is about how you need better gear. If you had a D3100 you'd be wishing you had the camera you have now.
does anyone here tape over the brand logos on their gear?
my teacher did it with a d700 i borrowed, but i removed the tape before i even realized why he had put it here.

I am not saying I have a lack of money or am poor, but my divorced mom obviously has issues trying to stay in my town while juggling a new job/degree, constant court cases with my dad who has millions of dollars to spare, and stopping our house from falling apart. its weird seeing kids get brand new audis and range rovers for their birthday before they can even drive by themselves when your family cant even afford a used toyota. its like how people in UK complain that 85° F is absolutely burning while its toasty day here when its 95° F, everyone has different standards that being said, it would be fantastic if you didnt shit on me everytime I complain about "not having enough" because to you it might seem like I have too much. a nice encouraging "you dont need that stuff, you can take just as good pictures with what you have now" would be a way better things to keep everything in line, but I will try to remember that many people arent as fortunate as I am so I am in no right to complain about needing more.
does anyone here tape over the brand logos on their gear?
Wasn't it some snake oil thing about flash glare off the white logos?

I literally just noticed your posting trends.
it would be fantastic if you didnt shit on me everytime I complain about "not having enough" because to you it might seem like I have too much
we aren't shitting on you for having too much gear, the only reason it's been pointed out is because other people here have experienced obsession with gear at the start, and know that at a certain point it starts to get in the way of one's practising of photography as a way of self expression, and i think a lot of people would agree that it becomes a lot easier to improve as a photographer once you get past wanting to get the best camera and the best lens that said, it's not always possible to make other people learn from one's own perceived mistakes, because they have not gone through the same mindset and made the same conclusions yet, so i understand why you are getting defensive so yeah nobody is calling you out or anything, and just as long as you get why this has been pointed out, this will be the last time i bring this up (and i mean that last part in a completely non-threatening, non-asshole way, 'cause really in the end what you do and how you do it is completely up to you)
sorry everyone, i get defensive quickly when people criticize me regardless if im doing anything wrong (which I was in this case) i have always been the type of person who always wants something better since I was spoiled as a child when my parents were together, i really hate myself for it and im trying to knock the habit
what was that place someone (pick??) was saying for film development in london?

Welcome.
Dwt, a good way to focus your kit is not to cover all situations, but just the ones that you shoot the most. A whole set of primes won't be a great investment if you primarily use just one. To me it seems like you are building a kit for "what ifs" (such as the flash thing), rather than needs. While it's nice to have if a situation arises, don't always plan on it actually happening. I bought a macro lens almost a year ago and I've used it less than 5 times ever, and the only reason I bought it was because I got an amazing deal on it ($15 vs the $150 it usually sells for on eBay). I shoot portraits every now and then, but not often enough to justify an 85mm 1.4 that I have wanted for years On a similar note, I look to my friend Thomas. Most all of his photography is paid work, and until recently his kit consisted of two lenses, a 28mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8. Those got him through engagement sessions, sporting events, landscape stuff, and even several weddings. Recently he got a 70-200mm 2.8, but only because he needed more reach at weddings. His kit is not nearly as diverse as mine, but he is able to do incredible things with what he's got (and on a professional level he is leagues ahead of me). He knows how to focus his gear much better than I do.
At least his gearlust is based on performance. I am lusting over a camera that is 10x as expensive as mine while actually being less usable.
ive had gearlust for a SWC since forever
i don't really have much gear lust. i find my 6D + 35 f/2 combo applicable for almost every situation
ive had gearlust for a SWC since forever
Me too but the 21mm lens is too wide for everyday photography for me and having to guess focus and compose on a small, inaccurate viewfinder puts me off. Also it's super expensive.
Since photography is more of side side hobby to me, I get along pretty well with what I've got. But I wouldn't mind trading in my d3100 for a d610 and my maxxum 7000 for a contax g2 a la Trogdon.
I'd have gearlust if there was a Fuji X-E2 sized full frame body with a nice compact fast lens selection. No not Leica, no autofocus and the EVF is meh. In other news, I tried a GX7 which is meant to have a really good EVF but it seemed absolute crap compared to the X-E2. I went for a risk and it paid out.
i have a camera that can take photos idc for much else for the moment
i care for a rangefinder lens and/or a 645 camera
Eeee! Sorry, super excited and kind of need to vent, but, I just got one of those old Russian anamorphic lenses and a clamp/adapter to hold it on to my digital camera. I'll post some action shots/shots with the lens ASAP!

I"ve wrote a few basic camera reviews, more thoughts on them but I"d like some feedback on what people think of them, the images that go with them and the writing. http://communistcatreviews.blogspot.co.uk/ If you could leave feedback on here or on the actual reviews. Thanks everyone
