get an olympus mju-ii (or stylus epic as it's called in the US) at a charity shop if you can can be had for cheap in the right places and looks like a typical crappy point and shoot, but the lens on that thing is godlike, and it's so damn small [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] it's full auto but it's good
unrelated my enquiry above but i got a laugh out of this [editline]18th April 2014[/editline]
get an olympus mju-ii (or stylus epic as it's called in the US) at a charity shop if you can can be had for cheap in the right places and looks like a typical crappy point and shoot, but the lens on that thing is godlike, and it's so damn small [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] it's full auto but it's good
holy shit that thing looks awful i love it
it doesn't have that '70s shiny metal body charm but i wouldn't go as far as calling it awful [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] (i am offended on behalf of mine)
i want to shoot film but im unable to decide between getting a plastic cheapo late 90s/early 2000s nikon AF slr and just using my current lenses on that or something ~exquisite~ like the 35ti
i dunno that thing is made of titanium and all but looks tacky if you really want something that shoots film and looks nice get an '70s olympus or a yashica or something in the end all you need is a box that holds your film with a decent lens and preferably a meter [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] even then, most films have quite a lot of room for exposure error and the grain will limit the sharpness of an image you can get, so just literally all you need is something with some glass that works
i really wanna get into medium format but so much money
i really wanna get into medium format but so much money
Get into 35mm first. If you're just posting 1000px wide shots on the internet I think very few would be able to tell the difference between MF and 35mm film, unless you're using very fast lenses with MF film.
Get into 35mm first. if you're just posting 1000px wide shots on the internet I think very few would be able to tell the difference between MF and 35mm film, unless you're using very fast lenses with MF film.
this plus most MF gear is pretty heavy and slower to use than a 35mm camera, so unless you really want to use it rather than have an MF camera because they are cool, it's probably gonna end up sitting on your shelf after a few weeks because you won't bother with the inconvenience
Speaking of 35mm gear n stuff.. my SMC 50mm f2 focusing ring "slips" for some reason now. I can still focus easily, it's just that the focusing ring continues to move even when i'm on the infinity side or the closest focusing side. A bit annoying, I hope it doesn't get any worse (which i don't think it should.)
i kinda want a nikon 35ti to bring on vacation instead of dslr but there are probably cheaper fixed 35mm lens alternatives anyone know of any? edit: alternatives meaning they do aperture priority and AF and stuff
Contax T2. I have one and I love it to bits.
I have an XA2 and I've shot 3 rolls with it in Canada and it's a great traveler's point and shoot with a sharp lens.
My mom just got an ultrasonic cleaner so I was trying to fix the aperture in my junky 135mm f3.5 (got it clean and snappy!) and for the life of me I can't get the rear part of the mount back on. There's this little metal piece that the breech mount screws into but no matter where I put it the thing won't work. I know nothing about lens repair but at least it was fun confirming it lol
Caved in and bought the d5300 anyway, about $500 cheaper than home. God dang the wifi is really useful actually
i still haven't played around with the wifi on my 6d
i still haven't played around with the wifi on my 6d
The neat thing is that you don't need a wired shutter release thingie. Also if you're doing studio work, especially still life, it's very useful. You can manipulate the subject while looking at the phone which shows you what the camera sees. No need to go back and forth.
Whats a good way to clean a sensor in your opinions? My mirrorless keeps getting tiny spots on it and I can see it when shooting at a high f number
Whats a good way to clean a sensor in your opinions? My mirrorless keeps getting tiny spots on it and I can see it when shooting at a high f number
I use a dust blower for small stuff, then Opteka sensor swabs (pre moistened) for the absolute most stubborn things. If it won't come off from the blower and it's just one piece usually I'll just let the camera anti dust thing work at it a bit (turning it on and off), and then the blower will work These are new, haven't used them though. Heard good things though http://photographylife.com/product/sensor-gel-stick
So I've been wanting to get into the Photo game for a while now and finally got a camera. Ended up getting a Nikon D5200, alongside a 18-200mm Nikkor lens (the fucking thing cost just about as much as the camera! I had no idea it could be this expensive!) Gonna try and snag some shots off the top of the Empire State Building cause I'm going to NY soon, but I just wanted to know if I made the right decision about my camera/lens
the sound of a 16-28mm 2.8 being smashed is surprisingly cringey
is your lens ok? :(
why were you driving so ridiculously fast
is your lens ok? :(
it's ben's lens, it smashed a giant chunk out the built in metal hood on the lens [editline]20th April 2014[/editline]
why were you driving so ridiculously fast
16mm lens, it's the wide angle effect. we were only doing 59mph in a national speed limit zone.
oh ok good, just remember: "dont drive fast" - strider [editline]20th April 2014[/editline] "or u'll die" - strider
I'd be scared of bending with the mount slightly, I don't know if the mount would snap off the lens before the camera lens mount broke though. But holy shit, that speed down Bealach na Ba, that's nuts. People cycle that all the time. [editline]20th April 2014[/editline] Cueball, did you get any air when you went over that bridge? What if you got thrown out of the back :'( [editline]20th April 2014[/editline] Did you die??? [editline]20th April 2014[/editline]
i we were only doing 59mph in a national speed limit zone.
It means 60 is the upper limit, it doesn't mean you should do 60 all the time. "The speed limit is the absolute maximum and it doesn’t mean it’s safe to drive at this speed in all conditions.". Heh.
died twice rip
Might be getting my first real camera tomorrow, a 600d. I'm getting really excited, it'd be nice to not have to borrow other people's cameras anymore.
what makes a camera real
Creative auto modes and one wheel that controls both shutter speed and aperture.
what makes a camera real
the soul of the photographer
Creative auto modes.

what makes a camera real
I can only do so much with the cracked camera on the back of my 4 year old galaxy note <3 It'd be nice to have something where I can control things like white balance, aperture and shutter speed.
