my mom would kill me!!!
but for real i like taking sports pictures so i need it for that
[sp]and my mom would actually be really mad[/sp]
It's not your big scary camera that is slowing you down, it's your attitude about your big scary camera
Get an X-E2 instead of an X100S, it's just as small, if not smaller, and you can change lenses.
If you like the thin nature of the X100S, just stick a pancake lens on the X-E2. If you're scared about using an EVF, I was too, and I have no regrets now. Fuji's modern EVFs stand out from the rest.
As for shooting publically, the small nature of the camera does help a lot. You feel more like an observer wishing to capture (something people care about less), rather than conspicuous photographer trying to art while sticking out from the crowd. One thing I've noticed is that with a DSLR in public, people move away from you, either for your sake or because they don't wish to be in an image, usually this is a problem because you want to capture the people acting natural and it makes you feel like a jerk for getting in their way. With the X-E2, people don't notice and it's easier to photograph people acting casual.
idk i don't think people really react that badly to dslrs tbh i've had the same response whether i was using my dslr or trip 35, maybe people might look at u but within like 10 sec ur out of their mind like they have more important shit to b thinking about

am i the only one who walks really really fast when street photographing like i didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out
what are you going to do with it
The noise difference is so small that it's just not going to make a difference.
Even if the performance on the 500D was better, you'd be missing out on the ergonomics and build quality of the 50D.
A better trade would be a 50D for a 500D but that won't happen ever.
What's going to be the processor, etc? How's it going to be pocket sized when everything is already crammed into that camera body?
Having used both, it makes a pretty big difference at high ISO
[editline]17th May 2014[/editline]
The existing chipset should do fine with some overclocking. The 50D's hard and firmware is just better documented than the 500D's, so that's why I need it.
http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Canon-EOS-500D-versus-Canon-EOS-50D___586_272
50D has a significantly (measurable) better ISO performance.
why do you need the cinema camera to be pocket sized
Also, how will you keep the chip cool if you're overclocking it then compacting it into something small enough to be pocket sized? The cams already get hot if you take exposures for more than a few minutes (resulting in artifacts).
why not swap and pay a lil for a 600d? it'll still be a lot lighter than a 50d and you'll still have a functioning camera
plus, all the noise performance will go up in smoke as soon as you make the body smaller and overclock it, the majority of the noise comes from heat (this is why the 50d does better than the 500 too)
I don't think this plan is thought through very well, you're better off getting a mirrorless camera, there's a lot of pocketable 4/3 cams that can do 1080p at 60 fps, there's also the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera which can do raw 1080p with 13 stops of DR and still remain pocketable.
how did you do it to the first 50d? not even the ML team have managed to hit that
[editline]17th May 2014[/editline]
the smaller size would be worse for the heat, i don't think any (non-astro) camera has any cooling system, so you'd just be cramming the components closer together
swap/sell your thingy for an EOS M, it can do 720p raw and has better noise performance and colour depth than the 50d
[editline]17th May 2014[/editline]
plus, that means you can use a whole load more lenses through adaptors
He said he's just doing it as an experiment.
Stick around, curious to hear how it goes. Wish I could help out.
Oh wow,there's a site that sells a Nikon D3200 w/ 18-55 AND 55-200VR lens for 550,-. Do want/
It will take well over a year to even get that much money though (I get 40,- a month). Pleeeaase drop in price by the time i'm going to save up
not sure what is up with the negative attitude about tinkering with a camera atm. i'm interested in seeing what you manage to get done with the experiment
I wouldn't call it negativity. Just a sudden gearshift to go from 111 pages of practical purchasing advice to frankenstein experiments.
it would be cool to see what u make with it esp if you make it into a mirrorless
the 50D is a beast esp. with magic lantern grabbing raw video out the fucker. main problem with dslrs for video in a more professional capacity is form factor. they don't lend themselves to rails and fucking giant primes on your shoulder. however, if you can get a 50D into a PL mount RAW video camera for <$1000 and can repeat it, you'll make a lot of friends.
eww glidetracks
[editline]19th May 2014[/editline]
if you make the 50d a pl mount camera which takes good quality cine lenses, has a modular form factor and costs less than 2k you're in a good place.
ooh yes, that's more like it
So they crazy kiev 60 I bought yesterday has the arsinal made "arsat c 80" which has a switch on the side for focus preview and metering. Well, I just read that if you focus closely with this lens, the internals of the lens pass the switch causing massive light leaks! Oh soviet era tech :v:

Try it, it might look interesting.
Hey guys, wanting to get some flash gear to take portraits (like fashion shots, outside studio) with, any recommendations of sites to read and what to look into?

I'd guess strobist should have everything to get you started (and probably more)
Jesus.. i think this is the first time ive witnessed the sheer power of my EM5's IS system
I shot a wildflower photo at 86mm equivalent in lens macro mode at 1/13 sec and i have pretty decent sharpness
compared to shooting the same photo on my old pentax k2000 it would be a soup of colors
Hey if any of you guys are looking to get a DSLR there's currently a pretty decent deal going on eBay on a refurbished D3200 with Lightroom.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/331205607468
There's also a reasonable deal on refurbished J1's with a tele zoom lens and a bag.

I actually own both of those and they're pretty good cameras, the Nikon 1 series always catches criticism but I think for that price it would make for a great point and shoot replacement. The video capabilities on it are also quite nice, it's just a shame that there's such a lame selection of lenses for it and the manual controls on it are quite a pain to set what with having to dive into menus and such.
Super easy cheap way, get a cheap 3rd party flashgun, a flash stand and a 40" or 60" umbrella and some wireless triggers, will cost like £80 total and you can get some decent stuff, these were shot with said setup:
