OK now I pretty urgently need a 7D. I just realized that if the 7D has 2 digic processors, it's likely they had to duplicate more of the board for the throughput. It's possible that it has unused leads for a second CF slot, which could double the write speed if I write alternate frames to each. Theoretically, I could push out 4K raw.
But I need to take one apart to see if they actually doubled boards.
No techno wizard rating so a zap will have to do.

is the card controller not seperate and further down the pipeline than the image processor though?
Super easy cheap way, get a cheap 3rd party flashgun, a flash stand and a 40" or 60" umbrella and some wireless triggers, will cost like £80 total and you can get some decent stuff, these were shot with said setup:

to add onto this my friend uses octoboxes (like a big white part that goes over the umbrella), and for outdoor stuff usually an ND filter to bring shutter speeds down. this will get brighter strobe power than with HSS. He uses two 600ex's though that's super pricey, so yeah try to get a third party if money is tight. he also uses one of them Canon wireless controllers so he can adjust power levels while away from the flashes, which is good for when they are behind the octoboxes and you couldn't reach them otherwise
i've shot with him a few times so i know a bit of how he does his flash work if you've got specific questions about setups.

Just threw 70 dollars for a Tiffen variable ND filter
Sick of this sunny bullshit
I have a problem with my camera (Zenit-E, Helios 44-2). I'm not really sure what it is, but what I thought were water-spots, turned out to be something else. Here's a couple of pictures in which you can see the spots:

Strangely enough, this doesn't happen when the diaphragm's fully open, but I can't narrow down the conditions more than that.
Anyone have a clue?

My guess is light leaks, or light reflecting off the rear of the aperture itself and getting on the film.
holes in diaphragm?
holes in diaphragm?
Well, I don't see any damage, but I guess light could leak through the blades? But wouldn't that leave more uniform marks?
nah that would actually just super-soften the image, not cause a white splotch
looks like light leaks or flare from the lens, is there something really shiny inside?
It's a bloody fingerprint. On the inside of the lens.
I just shone a torch through the viewfinder and saw what I imagine is my father's ancient fingermarks.
unlikely to cause such a large effect, would probably just exacerbate already present flare by messing up the lens coating a lil bit
i'm guessing it could also just be internal reflections inside the lens, perhaps the internal black coating is wearing off?

Love those shots man, what gear did you specifically use?
Specifically, it was

Though I'd recommend getting the larger 60" umbrella if you dont mind the slightly extra bulk, as it will create softer light and look nicer if you're going for the super soft beauty light thing
Also you can substitute all of the above with cheaper versions, you will still get the same look they just won't be built as well and break easier, most likely the umbrella
can you also use that umbrella when it is raining
I'd love a photography umbrella that I can use as a regular umbrella as well.

So my dad gave me his old Pentax SF1 today, and he made a big deal about how he wants it back because he's going to use it some day.
The gears to drive the film are worn out and it wont advance. I'm not sure if I should replace the whole body without telling him (like $10 on ebay) or tell him its broken.
[editline]22nd May 2014[/editline]
Fathers day coming up, I should just buy him a camera that isnt shit and surprise him with it.
This is unexpected http://www.fujirumors.com/digital-medium-format-camera-fujifilm-coming-end-summer-new-anonymous-source/
Looks like Fuji will be releasing a MF camera. They publicly said that a full frame camera isn't planned, so it looks like they're skipping FF and going straight into the MF market.
If they design it to be compact (for a MF camera) like the GF670, then it'll be a game changer. I hope it is, knowing how they've been doing some great stuff with small cameras.
that looks sexy.

i was in paris a couple of days ago and saw more than one person with what looked like a standard reflective studio umbrella (black on the outside, silver on the inside) but they had handles on them, so maybe that's a thing
Buy a black umbrella and cover the inside with plumber's tape (Aluminum Foil Tape)
Idk how well that would work but you could buff the aluminum tape which is a plus
i love browsing 2nd hand websites and just finding cheap gear, Ricoh Rikenon 55m f/2.2 for a tenner? yes please!
Latest rumors suggest that also Sony will launch a Mamiya 7 style MF camera (source-SAR).
Don't get too excited by the mamiya alike Sony thing, it will be 33x44 at vs the 6x7 being like 55x70. I think they are much more likely to make a fixed lens camera than an interchangeable system. That or just a NEX style system where adapting is common. Either way the sensor size is a bit disappointing (but it's the common CMOS sensor that all companies are using now).
I'm more excited about their curved sensor and 35mm 1.8 designed for a curved sensor. That thing could be absolutely incredible
What about the batteries for a MF digital? Don't MF sensors suck the life out of those? I'd love to see a compact digital MF but I doubt it will happen for at least a few years.
Sony could probably come up with something I'm sure. I mean in 2010 the NEX 5 seemed like an impossibility, being the smallest interchangeable lens digital camera ever made (smaller than m4/3 cameras) and it had an APS-C sensor. Was a big piece of tech then, so I bet they could pull off something similar now. Even the RX1 uses like a cellphone sized battery to drive a FF sensor.

nah
The RX1 is one of those cameras nobody saw coming.
I hope the A7 line gets some new lenses some time because it would make it tempting for me to get.
Adam Senatori posted a kinda interesting blog update about moving to MFD.
Gutted for him if these new MFD cameras materialise.

It's going to be Zeiss lenses (a Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f4, then Cosina Zeiss manual focus primes) and Sony G lenses for a while, they really want to push the premium status of the camera while they have no direct market competitors. I see them filling out the lineup sooner than they did in the NEX series, but it will be solid eventually.
Manual focus lenses work until then, or if you are quite desperate you can always use Contax G lenses and the Deotech adapter for some autofocus goodness.
