For anyone that is using a laptop for photo editing... I'm going to be travelling for a long time and I'm looking at buying a laptop so I can edit and post photos while I'm travelling. What are you guys using?
Is it worth going for a laptop with an IPS screen, or is that really only important if you wanted to edit for printing? Would I be able to get away with a 13" Macbook Air?
I'm trying to stay light and only travel with a backpack, so I'd be looking at something ultrabook style, but still powerful enough to edit raw photos and chop up gopro footage without getting excruciatingly slow.
If you get a calibrator it doesn't really matter if it's not IPS as long as you're not viewing it at weird angles
Be wary though, good calibrators will calibrate your screen to the colour temp and luminance of the light in the room that you're calibrating in. So if you're gonna be editing in different places on a laptop the calibration won't always be correct
it will still be better than a completely uncalibrated screen though
since most screens aren't calibrated, wouldn't calibrating to natural or perfect or w/e mess up your pictures if everyone's gonna be looking at them on screens

yeah, but at least you know that YOUR screen is correct, so it's others peoples problem if it doesn't look accurate on their screen, not yours
correct to what? if they're only seeing ur pics on their screens, then isn't that the new correct?
Mac screens all look similar, I'd leave as is and just edit that way. The colors will look good on most monitors

i think kids are already buying mini dv camcorders for that "jackass" and early 2000's skateboarding feel

If they are giving the 16-50 f2-2.8 this is a mindnumbingly incredible deal
The Samsung system has incredible lenses, like that, the 30mm f2 pancake, the 16mm f2.4 pancake, 45mm f1.8, and 85mm f1.4
So I took that Trinicon camera out and shot a demo. It produces extremely 80's quality videos.

I've been thinking about picking up a trinicon for a possible series of projects.
This has solidfied that need to get one now
Sigmas gonna release a 85mm in the ART series, woop woop!

I don't have a Mac at the moment, but I guess I'll disregard IPS and just go for whatever looks best weight/price wise. Thanks for the help lads.

can use this to do a bit of calibration without a calibrator

i would personally recommend an IPS laptop. TN laptop displays just don't come close when it comes to capability and colour accuracy

Someone about 2 miles away from me is selling one for p cheap with SL-2000 and etc
What would you say I should keep my budget around? £30-£100?
I paid $25 for the camera, $50 for the AC adapter/charger and the SL-2000 cost me $75 + $15 to purchase new Ni-Cd cells and repack the NP-1 battery. Between $100-$200 for the camera, recorder, charger and any accessories seems fair.
Be warned: The SL-2000 was originally a two piece unit. If you don't have the tuner module you won't have audio or composite out unless you hack in new jacks like I did. I can get you the pinouts if you want to do the latter.

What is missing here then? There's the camera, SL-2000, battery charger unit and carry case (gunna need to get a new NP-1 since its dead)
You have no tuner so you can't output a straight composite video feed unless you do the hack I mentioned. I can help you with that. You do however got an RF output so get a cheap VCR and use that to make the conversion from RF to composite at the loss of some quality.
Amazingly the NP-1 is still manufactured because it was also used in professional cameras. A new one will cost you 50 quid.
Also, test it before you buy it. Being a tube camera it only takes a few moments in bright light to destroy the pickup tube. You don't want to be shanked with a dead tube.
Otherwise all you are missing is a betamax tape.

How do you suggest I test it? Also it might be hard to do that since it's up on ebay, and the bid ends in like 18 hours
Oh well in that case you take a gamble.
I'd love to pick up one of those old things and do 80's-esc videos
What would be a reasonable price for a canon eos 10-D with a 50-135mm(? memory is bad) lens on it?
Saw one at a pawn shop for like 230 bucks, had no clue if it was worth that :v:

50-135mm sounds like a really odd focal length but I see Tokina made a lens with this focal length.
Anyway, 230usd is too much for such a old & outdated DSLR like the 10D. So if it was a nice lens it would maybe be worth it for just the lens, but I wouldn't buy it for the camera most definitely.

Sigma 35-70mm f/2.8-4
And now we play the waiting game. 1 week for it to arrive...

I may be totally misremembering the lens, but I'm fairly sure the max length was 135, and it was a canon lens.

Could be a 28-135mm, and if it was, that lens isn't very good. But still the lens would be worth about 200 usd.
Or a 35-135mm which isn't worth that much, maybe 75-100 usd.
Oh shit I actually won it for £99
This is going to be fun
You're going to have a lot of fun with that.
I got a Gary Fong Lightsphere pack relatively cheap, so I've been messing around with portraits.

I really love how it's turned out. Any tips on how to get better portraits?
Hopefully ordering my Canon EOS 700D at the end of this month
