Thinking about getting a Sigma 21-35mm lens for my Minolta, it's supposed to be pretty good and it's only $70. Might be fun on film, but I'm sure I'd still prefer my Canon 20mm so it wouldn't be that useful Meh

Don't really dig it. Although that one looks a little different than the one we have. The one we have, the screens really suck so you never know what your footage is going to turn out like. Also it "feels" cheap. Like bendy and plasticy. I much rather take the 5D iii with the zacuto + powered thingy for a nice mic. [editline]30th June 2014[/editline] Also, how good are non-weather sealed lenses at keeping the elements out? I am FINALLY about to pick up my GH4, but at first I'll be using my kit lens from my other camera. The gh4 is weather sealed but the lens isn't. Will I still be able to shoot in light rain or something?
last night I just went on a bidding spree not really expecting much but tomorrow Ill be picking up a 50mm f/1.4 Zuiko with sky filter and OM to EF mount for 55 euro ballin' [editline]30th June 2014[/editline] thinking of selling my nifty fifty, any reason I should not aside from auto focus which I do not use 99% of the time. I've got like 5 50mm Zuiko lenzes now

Non sealed lenses usually are fine if there aren't any electronics, but they can let droplets into the lens (which is bad), and moisture into the sensor box itself which is also bad. Likely you would be alright in light rain, but there's still a risk that you are taking that I would personally try to avoid. You never know if you will value autofocus performance in the future, and it's a cheap enough lens to hang onto without really any negative consequences. The electronic aperture control can help with automation as well, in some situations shooting P or S is a good idea. I would sell your other Zuiko lenses than the 1.4, you can't really use all 5 at once and the 1.4 should trump them in almost every way except weight.
I guess you're right, it's a great backup lens. But I'm keeping one 50mm of each f/1.8 version though, silver nose V1 and V2 (multicoat)
I'm a bit cynical about lenses, if I don't use them I want them as far away from my possession as possible. I've had like 10 different Canon FD 50mm lenses, the only one I keep is an old chrome front 1.4 because it was my mom's when she was younger. Not the best performing one that I've had, but the sentiment makes up for that.
i'd say keep one of the 1.8s, i've got two 1.8s and two 1.4s, and the 1.8s are ever so slightly sharper at the wide open side of things

I just picked up an Olympus OM2n and a 21mm f3.5 off Craigslist, eager to test it out and see how it works! What type of batteries does it take?
Yes, those should work. An OM2n takes two SR44 (silver oxide) or two LR44 (alkaline versions, 1.5V instead of the 1.55V of the silver oxide ones) batteries or their equivalents, of which 357's are one. Other names are 10L14, G13, S76, A76 and so on. The alkaline variants last around half the period that silver oxide do (6 months in regular use, versus a year).
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/31184673
Cheers! Just ordered some, I'll shoot a roll when they get here and see how the combo works. I don't plan on keeping it, but if it works fine I should be able to make a bit of cash off it

if I ever get the f2 version i'm sellin that shit to some crazy asian collector for bucketloads of cash. that's one of the lenses on my list of lenses I would instantly sell because the monetary value far outweighs the actual utility value (the Konica 28mm f1.8 is another that comes to mind, along with anything old Leica or Angenieux). but most likely that's a lens I will never encounter, they are quite rare and expensive for a reason. exotic lenses are usually purchased by people who were very into the craft, and so they don't often show up for inexpensive prices.
true on that asian collector part, but so far I've been very lucky with a lot of my zuiko lenzes. never give up dreams
i'm looking for a 50 1.4 for my 6d i think i would like something with auto focus, and not too expensive. any recommendations?
2nd hand f/1.4 from canon would be your best bet
thanks, ill keep an eye out for one
the canon 50 1.4 is pretty cheap and has af compared to the sigma art one which is a few hundred more and has slightly more unreliable af
that seems to be a solid lens for the price, so i'll start hunting down a used one in nice condition. [editline]2nd July 2014[/editline] i found a used one in mint condition for 200gbp, sounds fair?
The Samyang (branded as Rokinon) 85mm f1.4 is selling for $199 today with free shipping. It's the new outer shell for it, which matches all their newer lenses http://www.ebay.com/itm/390876353495?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D%26_mPrRngCbx%3D1%26_udlo%3D%26_udhi%3D%26_sop%3D12%26_fpos%3D%26_fspt%3D1%26_sadis%3D%26LH_CAds%3D%26_nkw%3D390876353495%26_rdc%3D1 I think I might buy one, but at the same time I really want a chipped version for image stabilization on my a77 :/
get it now and then sell it once you find a chipped version for sale?
I honestly didn't even think of that haha. I mean realistically if I bought a self chipped version then the distance markings could be off so it could be even worse. You never know how well someone else did the job I guess I could get this and if I truly love the focal length I could upgrade to a Minolta 85mm 1.4 in the future, would solve the chipping problem and be AF which is nice [editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] okay i ordered it, they won't get any cheaper than that. plus it's cheaper than pretty much any other manual focus 85mm lens, can't go wrong there hopefully it will mate well with 7000 and split prism!
