Super-Canomatic 50mm 1.8 lens is radioactive?
Yeah then Canon FL lenses should work perfectly fine, they should be cheaper as they are more abundant. Not sure about FD lenses though. I would recommend the FL 50mm 1.4 or 1.8, either should be pretty good. I've heard the 19mm 3.5 and 35mm 2.5 are interesting lenses as well
also I think the only radioactive lenses Canon made were the FL 58mm f1.2 and FD concave 35mm f2
There was a version of the 50 1.8 R that was radioactive, but I'm not sure which one is. It doesnt really matter anyway as long as you don't sleep with the lens under your pillow or lick the thing :v: The Canon FD 55mm f/1.2 SSC Aspherical is radioactive as well by the way.
Also, not just any newer lens will work with the Canonflexes although I never have seen a specific list of it. Some newer lenses can cause mirror collisions for example.
But the problem with the aperture stopdown mechanism in the R bodies is way different from the newer FL and FD lenses making it mandatory to use them stopped down all the time.
The only lens series of lenses you dont want to use on the canonflexes is the newFD series. Because on the older breachlock lenses you can push the aperture stopdown pin further down so it stays in one place. The newFD series doesn't allow this. If you want to mount the FD breachlocks on the Canonflex you MUST do this otherwise the mechanism of the Canonflex can become stuck on the aperture pin of your FD lens.
On FL lenses the aperture pin won't get in the way as much as the FD lenses, but using some FL lenses stopped down is a real PITA because they don't have a dedicated M/A switch. If buying a FL lens I would really get one with the M/A switch and not the other solution they had with 2 aperture rings in the front because you have to stop down your aperture EVERY time if you change it then. Just believe me on my word on this, you don't want to bother with those lenses except using them on a proper FL or FD body so the camera stops down the aperture for you.
^ this is why i cannot into vintage cameras.
not all vintage systems are that complicated (hint Olympus OM hint)
As long you stick to the propriatory lenses of the camera you are using there is nothing complicated about it. It starts getting complicated when you start using things that weren't actually meant to work with your camera in mind.
hahah, for the second time in a year a guy i know ordered a DSLR and a few lenses from ebay and it arrived in an arri alexa box. i could only imagine their reaction when that arrived

it weighs too much
I own a nikon d7000, and I am looking for a general walk around lens. I've been looking at this http://www.adorama.com/NK2485R.html
Would you guys recommend it? I know with the crop factor of dx cameras, it will not be 24-85mm.
Or is there a lens near the $400 price range that you guys recommend. Again, it will be for general all purpose use, like urbex, landscape, street, and some portrait. Thanks
Thanks
dunno if anyone is in the market for a 5d3 but this is the cheapest i've ever seen by a mile

grey import but insurance for £50 a year will cover everything a warranty will and much much more

£1609 for a 5d3 is insane
thats only a little bit more than what i paid for my 6D.
I loved my 5Dmk3. It was kinda overkill for me though, and it gave me heavy dslr hand and curse of everyone thinking I worked for the local newspaper.
After working with the 5Dmk3 I really fell in love with how rugged it was. It produced lovely video that was soft and clear, with the full frame sensor giving really good dof and low light capabilities. But man, that thing ate batteries. Also it couldn't do 60fps in 1080p :(
I still love using it, but I don't regret getting the gh4 at all.
Anyone have any news about a mk4 or 7Dmk2?
slap on a v-lock plate, 15mm rail that fucker up and get yourself powered up and ready to go.
my 105mm arrived with only 1 accessory missing!
My new charger has arrived as well, so now i can shoot with the 6D again!
Loving my new Sony A6000. 35mm 1.8 and a 55-210 should be arriving shortly.
Can anyone recommend me a good Minolta lens to use with my Sony A58? I've kind of growing tired of using only my 50mm and looking for something a bit better than my kit lens.

What type of lens are you looking for, a wide angle, standard zoom, telephoto zoom, long prime?
For a Sony kit I highly recommend the 35mm f1.8, it runs at about $200 new and is quite the performer. It's a bit wider than your 50mm, and should give better results. Most Minolta lenses are pretty good for the price, but a bit more limited in practical applications because of being made for film and not crop sensors. I would say if you are interested in telephoto the 70-210nm f4 "beercan" is a fantastic lens, a lot of CA wide open but pretty sharp and a fantastic aperture range especially for the price. The 28-135mm f4-4.5 is a classic lens with a big following if you don't mind the not so wide end and poor minimum focusing distance, and the 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 is supposed to be another great one.
I was really leaning towards something within 35mm range. The Sony 35mm is pretty enticing. I just been looking for something a bit wider.
Wider you've got the Minolta 24mm f2.8 and Sigma 24mm f2.8 are wider, but honestly they wouldn't be drastically better than the kit lens in terms of aperture and performance. There's also a Sigma ZEN 28mm f1.8 which I've heard is okay
I bought a Samyang 24mm f1.4, great lens but it's all manual.
Thanks for those Trog. I'm probably gonna start saving up for the Sony 35mm f1.8.
that lens has been sitting on my a230 for about 5 years. it's great!
umm lol

Is that the 25mm 1.4 or 35mm 1.7? I've got the latter and I've actually taken some decent photos with mine
I saw a Pentax 67 with 35mm fisheye, 55mm f4, 90mm f2.8, 135mm f4, and 200mm f4 for sale together for $2000 at an art gallery today. From what I could tell they were all pentax lenses and seemed like-new. A quick ebay query tells me it's really not worth that much but I was hoping someone here could tell me that it's actually a steal.
Seems really pricey to me, most likely the big cost is due to the condition of the items and where it's being sold. The only exotic lens is the fisheye, all others are fairly inexpensive for the system.

If you want to go 6x7 there's a Bronica GS-1 on PHX Craigslist with a 100mm f3.5 and 150mm f3.5 for $375. You'd just need to buy a focusing screen and you'd be set. I've thought about buying it but I'd rather save for digital full frame instead

I've been really enjoying using my zeiss ikonta folder for medium format, but now I'd like to move to something a bit better (sharper, less fungal, faster to use). I know it'll probably be way bulkier and less convenient but w/e
I'd want something with a waist level finder. Interchangeable lenses would be nice, but aren't necessary. I really want to take casual portraits and stuff with it, which is pretty hard with the zeiss' uncoupled rangefinder.

ideally 6x6 but I don't really mind
Graduated and earning at the moment. New camera looming. Can't decide if I want an NEX/a6000 or to pay a premium and stick with Fuji's based X-series. Been spoilt by my X10 in the 6 months I've had it.
