Are you sure this isn't because you were shooting with a f/3.5 lens rather than the 50mm kit? IIRC OM systems are know for their insanely huge and bright viewfinder.
It's higher magnification but I've used slower lenses on my Canon with no issues. I had a 50mm 1.4 Oly and an OM1n before and that was also dimmer than my Canon's. They are massive finders, but not the brightest things out there
I wonder if it's the focussing screen?
Thinking of picking up an OM2 with 50mm lens.
Is the camera any good troggy?
~om master race~
I wonder if it's the focussing screen?
The screen I have now in the om2n is trash (it's for like long tele lenses lol) but I had a regular split prism one back when I had the 1n and it was brighter, but not quite A1 bright. The sizes of Oly are nice though I won't lie
Got a trade offer for my a77 in the form of an a850, I think I might do it. I'll miss the EVF and tilt screen but it would be a fun camera because of full frame. High ISO would be bad still, but I mostly shoot at 100, where it isn't far off from something like the 6D. Dreaming about the 24mm 1.4 on FF, even if it is impossible to focus :0
So, I have my D5300, Lowepro Messenger 150, and Sandisk cards. Love it all.
I need a mic. Pretty sure I'm going with the videomic go. Right at the limit of my budget and seems to have good reviews everywhere.
Last thing I really need now is a spare battery. I know Nikon recently updated their firmware and broke compatibility with 3rd party batteries. Some say their batteries work with the new firmware but I'm hesitant. Should I go with Nikon branded battery or can I trust these other guys?
Looking at this battery. Hoping for some insight on this. I haven't been very successful looking through google.
why do you need a mic
nikon branded
why do you need a mic
For when I shoot video, audio quality is a top concern. My main subject will be cars but there's also the odd event like air shows, sports, etc.
quality will still be pish
the videomic Go isn't very good
[editline]5th August 2014[/editline]
well, it won't be much better than the internal microphone anyways. i would get a videomic pro at least if you want something with good battery life and decent audio quality to sit on your hotshoe for small events like that
Does anyone think it would be possible to modify a dslr to shoot video with the flash on. Kind've like how the camera software works on iOS?
Probably not, the flashes in cameras aren't designed to run continuously
Camera flashes use a capacitor to induce the charge needed for the light. Your iPhone uses an LED. In other words it's impossible.
Hey guys, I want to get a digital SLR. I've never had one before.
I've been looking at the Nikon D3200 and the Canon 1100D & 1200D. Which are these are best, or is there a better option? I'm hoping to spend less than £400.
Hmm, I've had a look at the Pentax K-50 which I can get for £400. I really like that it's weather proof and it seems worth the additional cost. It seems like it's on par with higher spec Nikon and Canon's rather than the entry level 1200D and D3200.
I was hoping it would be under my original budget but it's dumb to get something slightly less expensive if it's considerably worse and will cost me more on lenses in the long run.
Thoughts?
how often will you use that weatherproofing? define on par? why not the 650D over the entry level models?

I will be using the camera outdoors in the rain as much as the sun. I can live without weatherproofing, it's just a really convenient feature.
The 650D is considerably more expensive, far over my original ball-park budget of £400 for my first camera and I don't even really understand what I get for that extra money?
I mean, with a budget of £400 what would be your recommendation?

I think for the amount of shooting that I'll be doing on average, it doesn't make sense to have a budget more than $100 for a mic. Beyond that I think I'd be purchasing beyond my needs. Given that, is there anything out there that's worth the budget price?
I would love a Videomic Pro if I could get it for around that price but that seems unlikely. I also saw the Azden SMX-10.
The last of my budget will be going toward a second battery and a mic and I really can't justify spending more than $150 at this point. Am I out of luck or do I just need to pick one and know it wont be the best (obviously given my budget)?
I got a 650D as my first camera like, 2 months ago. and im loving it so far
There have been no faults with it and it seems like it will last me well over my beginner/amatuar stage. I just didnt want to jump in and get a DSLR that would be useful for me as a beginner, but once I get over that stage I dont want to feel strained and have to shell out more £££ just for a new camera.
I want a nice strap but I don't want to shell out too much for a cool brand like black rapid or whatever but still the quality. Any help ?
a boot lace is the best strap i ever had
but for real, a boot lace has some stretch to it, its soft, its thin and malleable, and it has no top or bottom, so you cant get it twisted.

my a7 has a boot lace strap

If you're shooting a lot in the rain then I'd say get the Pentax, their level of weather sealing is above the pro line of Canon and Nikon cameras.
The big two companies just say their sealing is just "dust and moisture" and not actually rain, but Pentax actually advertise their sealing as for use in heavy rain.

I had my K-5 out in the rain for over 2 hours straight before. The only thing is you should have an umbrella to keep water off the lens. Not because it damages the lens, but because it's annoying to have to keep cleaning the lens off so the drops dont mess up your photos.
I need help please.
I was practicing some long exposure shots, edited the settings on manual, took some pics.
However now, my lens won't reset back and even on automatic, it just won't focus. The camera is focused extremely closely and at around 15cm away it starts getting blurry.
I've reset all custom settings and everything but it won't fix.
I also tried with another lens and that one worked fine so something is up with the lens.
The K-5 is a tank though seriously. I've dropped mine like 4 times and only once it chipped when I dropped it from face level on concrete. It just took a tiny 5mm chip off the steel lol.
I'm extremely happy with mine, haven't a single issue with it so far. I've never dropped it, but I've hit it really hard on walls before. Not a single chip or dent anywhere on it. I only wish it had a full-frame sensor.
Are you looking for a shoulder strap or a neck strap or? I just grabbed some shoulder strap from futureshop for like $20 and it seems pretty nice
i def. want a shoulder strap!
does anyone know a brand that's durable or maybe a eu based site?
Ive ben looking at sites that allows you to design your Own, but fuck paying 70$ For a strap
I'm still plan on saving up for the Black Rapid, I don't know which version is the best for normal shooting. I plan on getting the Sport version.
