Oh damn, I wish I could afford that. Right now I can afford something $100 or below. I know the quality might not be as good but I just want to get some hands-on experience using an external flash.
Have a look at the yongnuos no idea if they do a sony fit one

For an all manual flash the old Minolta 4000AF might fit, I would google a bit though. Very advanced unit for being like 30 years old

playing the eos cinema game, got some 50 1.2 action that needs played with
luckyyy
protip: focus throw of 350 degrees makes manual focus very difficult
Making a good focus throw seems to be a lost art
people complain about the 50 1.8 II's manual focus stuff but its fine and the tiny throw is great for how you're supposed to use it ( not at f/0.18 )
How does one measure focus throw? I've never really thought about it much.

This is the semi circle I got holding a pen to the focus tab from minimum to infinity.
how long from infinity to closest basically
so cinema lenses are almost always nearly 350 degrees so you have the most precise focus so you can actually use a follow focus, but i hate it because i'm not used to it
It's hard to describe exactly, since there are so many different systems in place. You've got traditional style which is essentially a dampened screw, then you've got the autofocus lenses that are screw driven or mechanical motor style, throttled manual focus style, and focus by wire. The first style can be the most accurate, depending on how dampened the ring is, and the total degrees of focus. The second style usually has the shortest throw, because its mechanically linked to the AF and having a shorter less dampened throw speeds up the autofocus. That's probably the least accurate and effective one. The throttle style is a great compromise, as there's not a direct mechanical linkage between MF and AF, but you can still get some sort if dampened throw. Not sure if most lenses use this, the Sony 16-50 2.8 is the only I've owned with it. Quite decent manual focus performance IMO. Lastly focus by wire has very little tactile feedback, but minute adjustments are easy and it's probably the easiest to achieve critical accuracy.
Increased degrees of rotation are usually better for longer lenses because they have thinner critical DoF, and it's very important for all manual focus macro lenses as well. My 200mm f4 macro was great for close distance, but at longer distances there simply isn't enough rotation available to nail focus easily.
My personal favorite is the dampening on Canon nFD lenses, not too loose and not too long.
fave manual focus: yashica 124g
focus throw is short at normal/wide portrait distances, really long at close distances

like from infinity to 3 you have about 45 degrees and then from 3 to 1 you have 180

Not sure if there's a special way of measuring related to photography, but I got the angle and arc length

i shot some alright stuff with the c100 but never took it out and didn't have a tripod to run more serious tests but it's seriously lovely footage with killer dynamic range out the box. form factor is a bit awkward but that's just something to work on
Is this a good deal? I wish my a7r had XAVC-S so I could take super slick video. I used to make short movies as a kid and I have a really great idea for a terrible short
guys
I have acquired the most desirable lens known to man

the Canon EF 1-65535mm f1.4L II
never will you need to change your lens again
1DX Mark II comes with it permanently attached to the body
In the spirit of that, if you had one dream lens what would you get????

Fuji 16mm f/1.4, if only it was 18mm.
If I had a full frame camera I'd like a 28mm f/1.4 because I find myself maxing out my ISO a lot.
do you mean out of actually existing lenses or made up ones?
Real, otherwise you could just say 1-99999mm f/0 pancake.
It has a collapsible front element to fit in your pocket.
Real ones
I would say the Sony Zeiss 24mm f2 or the new Zeiss M mount 35mm f1.4 (or SZ 35mm 1.4 depending on wide open performance)
I have too many dream lenses ;(
MS-Optical 24 f/4 pancake ~thousand bucks

Handmade by some Japanese guy in his basement and vignettes like a bitch but it is TINY.
My 18mm f/2 is like 0.5cm from being a pancake, I love it.

I need to get a speed booster and something like one of those tiny leica or voigtlander fast wide primes.

Makes me want to try to adapt the tiny 35mm f3.5 in my XA2.
[editline]22nd September 2014[/editline]
Just need a Japanese basement workshop.
MS optics is an awesome company. They do such unique stuff
the 30mm arsat is kinda a dream lens

its a monster piece of glass.
If canon made the 8-15mm L in 2.8 i'd get it instantly, other than that I'm not really sure to be honest
50 and 85 1.2 would be nice I guess but I don't know how much I'd use them
really i just need a body that can do clean 20,000 iso in dark environments
