Canon relies on the name, the last truly innovative thing they did was the 5dmk2 (and the 7d to a lesser extent). They've stagnated and shown no interest in really hardcore competing, aside from overall lens quality I guess (but losing in price to even Nikon).
I mean just look at the 7dmk2 against the Samsung NX5 or whatever. Literally a joke comparison in features
That's why I switched to Fuji, Nikon and Canon really stagnated and the shots you get out of their cams look the same as they did 10+ years ago, just with less noise.
Nikon is better than Canon at least with trying, the d750 is a good step.
I could talk shit about literally every manufacturer though (even Sony) so it's fine haha
oh lordie I missed like three pages snip snip snip
I was thinking of purchasing myself a 5D Original for my birthday cause it seems the cheapest way to get digital full frame. Thoughts?
i mean if you really want to go FF it's alright, but performance of the sensor isn't very cutting edge any longer, especially at 12mp. i wouldn't get one personally, but i guess it all depends on the price (would go around $500 for it).
i think the Sony a850 is a bit better value, you can get lucky and snag one for around $700 these days. at ISO 200 it's quite good, and the old Minolta lenses you can use with it are quite nice and cheap.
then of course the best value IMO for full frame is the sony a7, which you can get now for around $1k used. very great sensor, and the manual focusing is easy enough to make a very formidable and cheap kit using adapted lenses.
i still want a a850
it's like i love it but at the same time it sucks a lot
just need a better stable of lenses, my tokina is being replaced with a mino 28-75mm f2.8 soon, maybe that will be a fraction of the excellence that was the sony 16-50mm f2.8
then i kind of still want a mino 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 but idk why
wtf are canon even doing lately, even their most recent bodies are pretty much outdated by competitors now already
they just going trough their stock of old bodies/sensors/etc.
plus I doubt both Canon and Nikon will be innovative for a couple of years as they are mainly focussing on their ~pro~ business and not the average consumer.

i just recently got a 7d (used like 500$) and i found the 7d mkII really disappointing. I figure there's no point in buying any of the newer canons right now. Ill keep the 7d for like 5-6 years then get a used 5d mkIII or something.

i'd go 5d2 at least

Almost double the price and I'm skint
Once I get a job I'm going to explore entry into fullframe. I'm gonna be poor forever though so I'm digging the idea of getting a better 35mm camera like the nikon fm2 or canon eos 3 is interesting
how much is a better 35mm camera gonna improve your photography vs better film or mf or whatever
APS-C is like half the price and does the same job.

unless you enjoy wide angles in which case you gotta pay a bomb for them
So i've been looking into film cameras. I've been using my Cannon XSi for about 8 years now and I want to try out something new. I've already gotten suggestions in the Creative Photo tread for cameras. Now, my grandma said she has a "Nikon" that uses "110 film" I can't find a single Nikon (On google) that would use 110 film. Let alone many cameras that do. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Take a picture of it.
Recently got an AE-1 on ebay for cheap with a 28mm lens. Will be my first experience using film since my parents never bought me a film camera when I was younger.

The 5d mkI is good if you want full frame but you have to remember it only goes to iso 3200. if you mostly shoot during the day it might be worth getting but anywhere near darkness your going to be screwed. The sensor performance just isn't there. Also full frame lenses cost more. everything is up in the 500$+ range

one of the reasons to go full frame is cheaper lenses
24mm 1.8 £300
35mm 2 £180
50mm 1.8 £70
85mm 1.8 £250

Whatever it is I'm sure it's not what you are really looking for. If you want a 35mm camera there are plenty of good choices out there, and basically I would just go for whatever brand you stumble across first at a decent price (would not buy on ebay, prices are pretty high for what you get).
If you see any local stuff that you want checked out, link me it and ill let you know if it's a good deal or not

full frame zooms seem to be more expensive. Though you can always buy full frame lenses then upgrade the camera body later.
i want to get an a7 soon but i can't really afford it on top of renovation costs :(
aps-c game continues
renovations huh?
redoing my room for the first time in 10+ years, new floor and stuff. can get to be pretty costly but it helps that mum is splitting costs with me
i mean, to me at least, it's more worth it to have a good working environment and living space than to have a full frame camera, especially when i'm hardly scratching the usefulness of my SLR
Full frame is cool but really I am like 99% sure my shots look exactly the same as they did on APS-C so w/e

Wont be able to get them until Sunday. My aunt has now found one of her old Canons. So now im getting two cameras. Neat.
how much is a better 35mm camera gonna improve your photography vs better film or mf or whatever
my current one i just got batteries for and I have to wind it with a key or coin from the bottom after every shot.
I just need something wider than 50mm for my aps-c and maybe i wont pine for full frame

(Not my picture, my dad took it) But this is my new camera! I cant wait to get started.
if the next canon pro body doesn't rival the a7s in iso performance i'm going to be very annoyed
wtf are canon even doing lately, even their most recent bodies are pretty much outdated by competitors now already
following on from this, bit of a rant but it really is absolutely ridiculous with whatever canon is doing with their bodies in general, the 5D4/1DX2/6D2/whatever has better have some serious improvement for real
I mean the 6D (looking at the results from about 13 reviews) is the better at focusing in low light, has better iso performance between 1600 and 10000 iso, has better dynamic range across nearly all iso's, better colour reproduction and some other things, than BOTH the 5d3 and 1dx
wtf seriously
and the 6D's iso performance is absoutley nothing compared to the a7s'
canon what are you doing I want to upgrade but anything above a 6d actually is a downgrade unless you shoot sports
Sounds like you need to shoot sports
