Anyone got any recommendations on a backup/walkaround camera that can fit in a pants pocket?
a phone
Not really willing/able to pay an insane monthly fee for a half decent small camera with less flexibility than something most likely cheaper.
Sony RX100 series, the iii version has an EVF and they all shoot raw.

i don't know, i couldn't find a camera with as much flexibility and ease of use + picture iq at the same price as my oneplus or a used iphone 5
i mean, you do get a nice phone out of it at the same time. you don't have to pay contract prices to get a good phone camera

phones are fantastic backup cameras unless it's for a job (but as you mention pocketability i assume you're more focused on street shooting and the likes)
I'd love to get the 16-35mm f2.8 for my 6d
The new f4 one is incredibly better, I would go for that if you are thinking of it. Then Tokina is releasing their 15-30mm f2.8 sometime, which I imagine is going to be second to only the Nikon 14-24mm

I should mention that there's more to check out, I've just seen that the RX100 line is praised the most.

I don't know if the X20 or X30 are pocketable but they're very compact and Fuji shots looks great SOOC if you're looking for a casual camera, they do raw too. They do amazingly good b&w jpegs, no editing required. It's the kind of thing where you'd carry it most of the time but it would fit into your pocket temporarily for when you need both hands.

I've got the Tokina 16-28 2.8, it's pretty decent just weighs a ton and focus could be a bit better
In terms of price/size/image quality, the RX100 is by far the best rounded package you can get. For $380 new on eBay you are getting an incredible camera. I love mine, I would highly recommend it. The size too is quite impressive and pretty compact (better than anything else that competes with it)
Here are some of my images with mine.

Well, I frequently volunteer at a campsite nearby, and there's just too much going on that requires two hands and where something around my neck would be a bit of a hazard, so I'm just looking for something that can get into a pocket that won't feel too jarringly different from my slr, particularly in terms of autofocus speed, which is my main concern.

whups, didn't see your post trog. Yeah, the sony seems to be what most people recommend based on what searching I've done. It's kind of side by side with the panasonic LX7, which I'm slightly leaning towards because it's got a hot shoe. Would really like to have a viewfinder be an option. (though judging from the stuff on your flickr, the screen on the sony is relatively visible even in bright sun?)

Image quality will be better on the RX, and the size is smaller to boot. The screen isn't too bad in bright light, the best out of the Sony screens I've used for that. On the mk2 you can get a hotshoe and tilt screen
Though after the a7r I can see the value in an EVF, though it's still not critical imo
35mm is the only focal length i've used over the past 10 or so months
35mm is the only focal length i've used over the past 10 or so months
it was all i rocked back on my sony a230.
these days i'm really enjoying my 24mm 2.8 and 14mm 2.8, but i could use a zoom like a 24-70 2.8
it's not too wide to not take portraits but wide enough to get a good idea of what's going on on ff
What's everyone's favourite focal length? 35mm equivalent of course.
right now I like the 35mm for every day use.
Is there anything i should be worried about when buying a cheap used t3i + 18-55mm kit lens on ebay?
is it a reputable ebayer?
is it a reputable ebayer?

how many ratings?

Nice, you won't be disappointed in terms of video quality.
Also, thanks for posting that video, I used his camera settings and it seems even better to work with in post!
Thanks! :)
And thats awesome! Im glad I could pay it forward with something useful.
Would you guys have any suggestions on what website I should use for selling pictures/freelance work? I was looking into iStock and Shutterstock, but I didn't know if there was a better place.

Realistically no matter where you put it don't expect much. Those sites aren't very successful to newcomers, especially if you don't have an incredibly vast body of work on them. It all comes down to the keywords on the photos, not necessarily the content itself.
I am new to Facepunch and the flash in my GH4 fired while closed almost setting the bloody thing ablaze.
*sigh*
A good day to you!

i once put the flash on my 1000D against my skin and fired on full power and nothing happened
i once put a empty bag of weed over the pop-up flash from my 500D thinking it would be a great diffuser, smelled like burned plastic with a hint of cannabis.
oh and the flash refracted all over the place LOL
I used my popup flash once
