someone more educated on sensors and ISPs needs to get this information
but film always has more dr than digital and infinite resolution because u can just scan it in better...

Film has been lagging behind digital ever since Nokia made that 41 megapixel sensor.

I still want to know the upper limit of film scanning.
Wizard of Oz was scanned for the latest Blu-Ray release at 8k.

It's because loss of detail in film looks better than pixelation.

8k digital will look better

but pixels are smaller than film grains now
Not when wiz of oz was filmed.
But you're right, with 20+ megapixel cams being the norm now.
I put a bid on an Olympus OM-1 set (flash + 50mm + 135mm + case) at the start of this week. Nobody put up a higher bid yet so I mailed the seller if it's ok to pick up tonight for my bid + 5 euro.
Seriously hoping to cop this.
I love my OM-1, it's tough as nails. Been in a river a time or two, still works fine. :v:
Just letting everyone in the US know, that KEH.com is having a 15% off sale on all film equipment when you make a purchase now through tomorrow and use the coupon code "FILM"
Think I'm going to pick up a Minolta 35-105mm. The search for a decent standard zoom continues!
are lens caps considered 'film equipment' cause i need some

yes they are actually! I would buy 3rd party caps from eBay though, I'm quite a big fan of the pinch style caps and they are insanely cheap

You can get caps for $1 shipped. Crazy stuff
So I rented my Universities Canon 5D MKII, like normal - nothing unusual about this, I do it all the time.
I get home, I go to take off my bags and it slips.
crack
The Polarizing Filter is shattered (~£40) and it's dented the inner part of the lens (£700)
[t]http://puu.sh/d3RZ3/1c7d598eb3.jpg[/t]
I can't get the Polarizing Filter off either, that little dip at the top left is the damage to the lens.
How fucked am I?
depends on if the optics are damaged on the lens? like does everything work still? also that lens is dusty as hell
depends on if the optics are damaged on the lens? like does everything work still? also that lens is dusty as hell
Everything still works A-OK as far as I can tell, the only issue is the filter not coming off at this point.
As for the dust, that's the glass from the filter, which I've cleared. v:v:v
two things you can do
buy a new polariser and replace it without telling anyone making sure it is MODEL AND BRAND EXACTLY THE SAME as they track this shit
or take it back, own up and take the rap
real ur unlikely to be the first to do this so they probs have an actual procedure n insurance or w/e stuff to sort it

Im really thinking about buying that 28mm lens for my AE-1 Program, is it a good lens for $40?

Lying your way out of it is risky, I'd do the right thing and own up to it, it's most likely insured with a good plan anyway. Worst case scenario is it gets sent to Canon and they put a new filter ring on it and they buy a new UV filter.

Oh for LF stuff? That makes sense, yeah the code would work for that. If you need help searching let me know I'll help

Honestly I wouldn't pay close to $40 for it, really a subpar lens (looks alright though, I only put it on the camera for the photo). I think mine is slightly decentered, but even when stopped down to f11 the in focus side isn't that sharp. I would try and get a 3rd party 28mm lens, would be cheaper. Also consider their 24mm 2.8 which is great, or the Sigma 24mm super wide which is excellent for the price. The Canon FD 35mm f2.8 is supposed to be quite good too, if you don't mind going a little tighter

they don't have a 80mm one, game over

or 77 or whatever the hell i need

Honestly I wasn't panicking that much since it was pretty much only the filter.
The guy in the loan store said this happens all the time (one of the reasons they have the filters) and he's sawed off the things multiple times. The guy who runs the loan store is going to decide whether or not they charge me for it, so fingers crossed.
At my college I dropped a D5100 and the stores guy said not to worry about being charged because he knew I wouldn't have been messing around with it. (I'm a camera collector and have such reputation)
Very tempted to buy a speed booster, as my only gripe with Fuji is it's not full frame and I shoot wide.
Speed boosters are nice, just make sure you get the name brand one. The other ones aren't good at all
Fujifilm X-T1, yes or no? I'm trying to find a good weather resistant camera and not spend $8,000 for one either. If anyone else has anything that they would recommend that would be awesome.

A good friend of mine has just chucked in his 5D MKII for one. Will report back.
Speaking of excellent Fuji stuff, gonna head over to John Lewis tomorrow and see if they've got an X-pro1 on display I can fiddle with. Been looking at them primarily second hand, but Amazon has it with the XF18 and XF27 lenses for £749. If I sold one of those lenses immediately it'd probably only work out ~£50 more expensive than buying a body and a single lens second hand...
