The X-Pro1 is kinda dated now, have you considered an X-E2, you get phase detection AF and a much better EVF. If you ever use manual focus lenses you'll have to use the EVF, and the X-Pro1 EVF feels slow and less detailed compared to the X-E2, but it's still good. [editline]26th November 2014[/editline]
Fujifilm X-T1, yes or no? I'm trying to find a good weather resistant camera and not spend $8,000 for one either. If anyone else has anything that they would recommend that would be awesome.
Big yes from me, great image and build quality, the EVF is the best so far on any camera so you won't miss having an OVF.
Pentax also offers many weather resistant cameras and lenses if you're interested in DSLRs. Otherwise, Fuji and Olympus are good choices.
I'd say go for the Pentax if you want more weather sealed lens options, Fuji have very few weather sealed lenses.
If you are serious about sealing then it's Pentax. They have very good weather sealed bodies, and most importantly they also have a lot of weather sealed lenses. I've heard the 7dmk2 is supposed to be sealed very well, but there aren't a ton of weather sealed Canon lenses and they are mostly all L lenses (which many require filters to even be sealed), and even then the Pentax lenses will be better sealed The other option I would consider would be Olympus, the new digital OM's are great, and though very dated the E-5 is probably one of the best sealed cameras ever
If you want a 7D2 you may as well get a D300S/D7100 and use the rest of the money to buy some lenses.
I mean it's certainly an overpriced camera, but the sealing system in it is top notch and I figured worth mentioning if that is a priority.

Does the X-E2 have an AA filter? They're roughly the same price to be honest. The only thing that puts me off the X-E2 is that the reviews are just 'good'. There's none of the same raving that people do about the X-Pro1. Objectively they're pretty much the same, with the X-E2 having a better EVF instead of the OVF combo and some modern features like phase detection AF, WiFi, etc. Maybe I'm being a big art fart, or maybe I've just been wooed, but I feel like the X-E2 doesn't have the same 'soul' as the X-Pro1.

I've used both the cameras, swapped cameras with a friend to try the x-pro. The X-E2 will create the same images as the X-Pro1, but a bit cleaner since the processor and sensor are a generation newer (exact same X-Trans colours, less noise, so the "soul" is the same), and the controls are slightly improved. I thought I'd mind not having the OVF too but I found myself eventually always using the EVF to confirm that AF focused correctly, so the improved EVF in the X-E2 was what really sold it for me. If you're trying them out, ask to make sure they both have up to date firmwares and have the latest firmwares installed for each lens (there's lens firmwares). A firmware update to the X-E2 made it even faster, 0.005s lag-time to match the X-T1, which makes any lag unnoticeable. The updates to the X-Pro help too. Also turn off image review after each shot with the X-Pro or else you'll get lag. Originally I was going to get an X-Pro1 too, but the upgrades and smaller size in the X-E2 have been worth it to me to fit my shooting style. I do like the optical viewfinder in the X-Pro but it becomes a gimmick pretty quick. If the X-Pro2 has a better EVF I'm going to consider it as an upgrade. That's basically it, just realised I typed up a proper wall of text for a small question.
i wouldn't go for an Xpro 1 either unless you get it cheap. I saw one for $450 once. But yeah the ex-1 is a better camera even, and so is the xe-2. The optical finder isn't all that useful
i dont think ive ever used a camera without an optical finder apart from my phone what is it like
i'm going to buy an iphone 5c on monday and i'm going to create a snapchat, instagram and the whole shabang and i'm adding y'all
i got a 6 plus and it's amazing
i dont think ive ever used a camera without an optical finder apart from my phone what is it like
Current gen EVFs are actually really good, I like them better than optical by far. They're much better in the dark, even if the frame rate lowers to get more light and the ISO goes to max, you can still see more than a pitch black optical viewfinder. I was taking star trails with a buddy and he wanted to make sure his tripod was level because the spirit level in the D800 wasn't accurate enough and the view through the optical viewfinder was pitch black, so we used my X-E2 on the pitch blackness which was noisy but could still see detail enough to level the horizon and frame the shot.
why would you use the evf rather than the lcd at the back though
why would you use the evf rather than the lcd at the back though
In the X-E2's EVF you get more detail, more dynamic range, more contrast and no sun glare. The size of the image will look bigger too, bigger than a 3 inch LCD held at arms length.
oh ok
the EVF's are higher rez than LCD (usually 2.4mp vs 921k or 1.2mp), and sometimes OLED. Plus being shielded from the sun can be very useful as well. And navigating menus in the VF or reviewing photos is awesome
Welp, i'm going to get the Pentax K-3 with the 18-135mm WR f 3.5-5.6 lens. It has the best MP (24.4), best continuous shooting speed (8 a sec), good ISO (100-51200), very good weather proofing and many lens options to match. I know the video capturing isn't the best on it but that's not the reason i'm getting it. Also its a pretty good price for what you get.
The X-E2 is like £40 more expensive body only than an X-Pro1. I guess I'll get an X-Pro1 for now and could always trade up in the new year if I find I use the EVF mostly haha. The Fuji glass is the real investment tbh.
Holy shit, I didn't realise it was on offer. That deal god damn.
woah [editline]27th November 2014[/editline] might literally sell my 60d and stuff and get that?? maybe?? is there anything better at a comparable price how are those two lenses it comes with
I have the 18mm f/2 and it's all I ever use, it's extremely sharp for a wide angle, even at f/2 (I never worry about shooting wide open, even in direct sunlight). It's a pancake that's like shooting 28mm f/2.8 on full frame. Heard good things about the 27mm f2.8 too, above average sharp like all of Fuji's X lenses, but its main selling point is the size.
how much could i get for a 60d in pretty good quality with a perf quality 24-70 tamron vc thing and the 50 ii
Super tempted by that. Same deal is £748 on Amazon. If only I had that much money to spare! Budget is probably gonna be more like £550, which could net me a body and lens second hand. Then it's just a case of deciding between the XF18, XF27 or, if I get the body for a good price, XF35.
how much could i get for a 60d in pretty good quality with a perf quality 24-70 tamron vc thing and the 50 ii
You could get an X-E2 (£100 cashback deal) and an 18mm f/2 for the same cost as an X-Pro1 in that deal.
i mean if you really want to go FF it's alright, but performance of the sensor isn't very cutting edge any longer, especially at 12mp. i wouldn't get one personally, but i guess it all depends on the price (would go around $500 for it). i think the Sony a850 is a bit better value, you can get lucky and snag one for around $700 these days. at ISO 200 it's quite good, and the old Minolta lenses you can use with it are quite nice and cheap. then of course the best value IMO for full frame is the sony a7, which you can get now for around $1k used. very great sensor, and the manual focusing is easy enough to make a very formidable and cheap kit using adapted lenses.
hello friends. i am back to revisit this small debate again because I like to over analyze until i am certain that i am making the right decision in money spending and getting what works for me. Anyways, I know its Black Friday today and i don't believe in deals during this time. I think its bullshit really, however, there has been a camera bundle at my local Sams club/BJS for a Canon Rebel T5 18MP 3" LCD for $449. It includes: EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens, EF 75-300 III Lens, 16GB SD and a camera bag.. Originally priced at $800 after tax. There is also a t5i but its $800. I think that the price for this camera bundle is really acceptable. I don't mind getting it because it isn't breaking my pockets and I can always return it if I hate it. I have an xs and have had it since 2009? 2010...? Again, I am not getting it for point and shoot; Im in need of a video recording device. I know it would be best to get a camcorder so that i don't have to worry about the sensor over heating, and I would rather try out a Nikon, but the price is really great. (IMO) thoughts? I thought this was funny seeing as everyone hates the 7D; http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T5-vs-Canon_EOS_7D
i'd say that's a decent going rate [editline]29th November 2014[/editline] the sensor wont overheat lol
i'd say that's a decent going rate [editline]29th November 2014[/editline] the sensor wont overheat lol
people kept telling me that it would overheat if i kept using it. which i didn't understand...
well my camera just spent 5 days shooting a short film and is fine. my uni cameras are used exclusively for video and are okay.

The video recording is better though Also consider the Sony a5100, it has X-AVCS video recording which should be a bit higher quality than the t5.

I am aware its entry and Im fine with that. I don't make money for my videos, so i really don't need an expensive camera. I'm mostly gunning for this deal because of the bundle/price. I'll look into the Sony.. I know this is a stretch, but would anyone know what lenses might have been used in this video?
