He's getting someone else to focus remotely.
He's getting someone else to focus remotely.
if you can afford $1000+ for a wireless follow focus i'm sure you can build a rig out of something that isn't that
You guys here seem to be pretty pro with cameras. How would you say Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 is for a starter camera? For someone who wants a easy to bring camera?
Definitely an easy to use starter camera that should give good results in most situations. However my personal recommendation is a Sony RX-100. It should have a bit better image quality, has a very good screen for daylight use, easy to use controls that offer a high degree of customization (good camera to grow with), the size is smaller than the LX7, and it has a built in retracting lens cap which is awesome Either would be good, but after owning an RX-100 I think for the price it's incredibly hard to beat
second for the rx-100
You'd be able to switch lenses on the LX7, the RX-100 has zoom lens fixed to the body, which is still good, but you'll be able to upgrade lenses in the future with the LX7. It all depends on your shooting style, if you see yourself using a long zoom lens in the future, or wanting something with a large aperture for portraiture, then go for the LX7, or another interchangeable lens camera.
Third for the RX-100. I've only ever used the first gen one, but it was still pretty rad. Also I may have it backwards but isn't the LX7 also fixed, and it's the GX7 that's interchangeable?

Also I may have it backwards but isn't the LX7 also fixed, and it's the GX7 that's interchangeable?
Yep, my bad. [editline]21st December 2014[/editline] I was originally going to get a GX1 instead of an X-E2, because of the size. The only thing which made me choose the X-E2 was the sensor size, m43 just seemed too small in case I wanted some lenses that gave the cheap shallow DoF bokee effect.
MFT is the weirdest shit. At the time it seemed like a good idea and to be fair it's produced a vast ecosystem of lenses but it's 6 year old technology now and simply can't keep up with its APS-C and now even full frame competitors. Apart from the lens ecosystem I don't see why anyone would choose an MFT. feel like I'm opening a kettle of fish here...
Never saw the draw either. The NEX series has smaller bodies (sans GF1) and with the a6000 you have a camera that has better AF and image quality than anything Panasonic or Olympus and it undercuts their price significantly as well. Sure m43 has some good lenses, but they are really expensive and the good ones aren't all that compact
MFT is kind of a step backwards, larger sensors will have less noise since noise depends more on sensor area rather than pixel density (if you have a high res FF camera you can scale down the image and you'd have less visible noise than a lower resolution camera of smaller sensor size, this is what I was trying to explain a couple of months ago). You gain a couple of stops extra this way by being able to crank up the ISO and get the exact same results you'd get from a smaller, lower res, sensor. I think there's some link between sensor size and noise though, in a positive way. I think a lot of manufacturers chose APS-C not for being cheap but also because it keeps noise down, not sure though. Might be a heat thing. [editline]21st December 2014[/editline] Fuji were saying they went for APS-C because they got the same image quality from it as full frame.
say hello to the new addition to my ever growing OM family. OM-1 black edition
GH4 is definitely still a flagship DSLR even with MFT The quality and flexibility of that system is amazing compared to any other DSLR I've used. Only our C300 and RED cameras can outdo it really but also I'm talking about video MFT or at least Panasonics are great for that shit I don't even own a MFT lens, just Canon or Nikon with adapters/speed boosters
are you high the gh4 video is way overrated
are you high the gh4 video is way overrated
It's unbeatable for the price for shooting video.

I'll be picking up my first MF camera tonight, a Yashica D.
I would have to scan MF film at school though, I only have a dedicated 35mm film scanner. But yeah I'm really curious with the square format, one of the main reasons I'm going MF.
Here it is
picked up a new lens, going to try more tele shots, also rounding out my contax kit with all the lenses that are good on the a7r might pick up an AF adapter, who knows
It's a good system overall, mostly for the glass though. Useability isn't great, and the viewfinder is literally a joke. But the AF is pretty accurate, and of course the glass is stupidly good for the price I think I'm going to use it for my slide project because of the consistent results it gives.
Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you how you like the 90mm when you get it. I've also been thinking of picking up a T2 since they're relatively cheap and I'm a lazy fuck who usually shoots in aperture priority anyway. Don't suppose you know much about them/ever had your hands on one?
I'll have to test the 90mm more, but so far it seems quite nice in terms of image quality. It's quite small too, only a few mm longer than the 45mm. Excited to test it more The T2 is great, I'd recommend it. I think frag4life and H4z3y both have them, they might have some good input. As far as I know the lens is spectacular
what colour settings does everyone use on their macbook monitors, default? X [editline]24th December 2014[/editline] hm acc it would make sense to do it on default cos most consumers of it are gonna be seeing it on default

Got my Pentax K-3 for myself with Christmas moneys. Put it under water and scared the shit out of my mom. Was a good day.
Dude it's weather proof not water proof lol
Nah, just sprayed it. I know its only WR not WP.
Any opinions on the best digital camera under $200CAD? Gf will be using it for exchange, just needs something cheap to get her through the trip. I'm doing my own research but I'd like your opinions as well :)
Nikon P330. It shoots raw and can be got for $200 used. Same sensor as P7700. For a tiny bit more you could get a GF1 and a lens.
