Are you still looking at mamiya you mentioned? The biggest drawback I found wasn't the system itself but that no good MF scanners exist that are either still on the market or reasonably priced. The Epson v series have pretty poor resolution
heh

Someone else snatched it up, but that's okay because I just made a big investment and I didn't have quite the funds to make another just yet (with the tray and all). Plus I realized that 80mm translates to about 50mm, and I have plenty of those already haha. Gotta use what I have for now which is honestly quite a bit, I'll look back into MF if a better deal presents itself. For now I'm going to stick with my digi and 35mm, and learn a bit more about film shooting as I'm not the best in that area in terms of consistent exposure.

Damn 237mp? What scanner are you using? You do have 6x7 though, which is a bit bigger than 645.

epson v600
it can go to 12800 dpi but thats overkill
Jeez, I don't think I do anything above 600dpi on the v600 at school, and that's more than large enough with MF (for me). On shots I really like I may rescan at a higher resolution but 6400dpi?

Archival quality. It's good practice to get used to handling such large files as it's customary for professionals - you never know when someone is going to need an enormous image for a billboard or whatever.

My mom keeps yelling at me that I wasted my money because its outdated technology.
I told her that it was the worlds smallest digital camera in 1999, and she told me "Great! I would be so happy for you if it was 1999!"

i've seen some pretty cool stuff done with that camera
there's some way to get photos off it, most seem to involve a pc serial port

the serial port method was expensive and is now impossible, no more game to serial thingies are for sale. What I was thinking was printing the pictures and then scanning them. It seems to be the cheapest option.

It's not like it actually scans at 6400ppi. It's effective resolution is 1560ppi but you have to scan at the highest setting and downscale to get those afaik. I am going to start shooting MF soon too and I have no idea which scanner to get as well. The flatbeds are all overpriced considering the shitty quality they give you and good dedicated mid format scanners cost over 2000€.

You will get mad tumblr reblogs if you'll take photos with it.

gj you just made me burst out laughing in the middle of a god damn library
Does anyone here have experience with this lens?

This is what I'm thinking of getting next, once I have the money for it. I've seen the sample shots, and I love them, and I was looking mainly for a wide-angle-ish lens.
I am now the proud owner of a Mamiya 7.

I really hate the color though. Only got it because of the decent price. I am too impatient to wait for a black mamiya 7ii with a 65mm to pop up with a reasonable price. Why the fuck did they make them in any other color but black? I hope I will be able to trade it against a black mamiya 7 ii. It looks much sexier.

Like something knight rider would use.
That's an amazing camera, you shouldn't give a fuck what color it is. Even then, no one forced you to buy it.
With that attitude you seem to care more about what pictures of your camera looks like that what pictures your camera takes. Get over it because congrats you have a Mamiya 7.
I am sorry. I do love taking pictures but I also like to wank to gear. :v:

Oh boy.
I once went out shooting my new camera for the first time. The lens cap was made out of soft rubber so after taking a few shots I noticed that my lens cap is missing. Luckily I haven't gone far and found it instantly lying on the ground. I put it in my pocket to avoid me losing it again. I went to a huge park and started shooting there. When I was done and wanted to put my lens cap back on I noticed that it wasn't in my pocket anymore. My day was ruined and I didn't think I would find it anymore. Still I didn't want to give up so soon. I started backtracking but still couldn't find it. Then I remembered that I crouched to take one picture and it may have fallen out of my pocket when I did that. I remembered what I was shooting and went through my images on my camera to locate it. And then on my way there what did I see? A black square that was my lens cap. I was so overjoyed I left out a loud shout.
Well today I went out shooting again in town. I was admiring how good my camera looked in the building window when I noticed that my lens cap was missing again. FUCK I thought to myself. Not again. It was hot outside and there were people everywhere so I was especially angry. This time however I knew it was gone for good because I may have left it in the train. However I didn't want to lose my hope so soon so I took the train and backtracked again to the point where I took off my lens cap to take a photo. I thought that I may have dropped it there. I looked everywhere which was hard since there were so many people in town but I couldn't find it anywhere. It seemed like I really left it in the train. I know that there is a lost and found office but I didn't have much hope for someone taking a lens cap there. My day was ruined again. But I still didn't give up. I wrote when I got off the train and calculated when it would arrive at it's last stop and when it would come back. I went to the other side and waited for the train. I went it but it looked totally different than the one I was in. I looked everywhere on the ground which again was very hard because it was full and shaking. I got out and waited for the next one because the train driver may have took a break when he arrived at the last stop. The next train looked like the one I was in. Again I searched the ground for my lens cap but couldn't find it. Saddened I went back and then I saw it lying on the seat. I couldn't believe my eyes. I haven't felt that happy in a long time. I got out and started singing. I just can't believe I managed to do it again. I think I will never take the lens cap with me anymore. I am just too scared to lose it again.

I also wanted to get Velvia 50 but when the cashier told me the price (10€) I said fuck that.
ektar is da bomb
I hate soft rubber caps. I have one for my Hoya polarizer because it doesn't have front threads for some reason and they fall off everywhere. I lost mine in the desert once, but somehow found it. They just don't stay on well
I've been shooting with my 50mm 1.8 since I got it in December and my kit lens at 18mm is a refreshing change. I think I've gotten some good shots today with it!
