Hey guys
I want to mount my phone on top of a dslr
My phone is small and thick, and many mounts wouldn't work
would this work?? http://www.amazon.com/camera-photo/dp/B00C3QF4GY
Guys what film do y'all usually shoot with for b&w, 120 or 35mm? I normally use Ilford HP-5 plus 400 ISO but I was wondering if y'all had any recommendations.
If you have fast enough lenses, or enough light, Pan F+ is great, especially on 120. I have some pictures where I have yet to find the grain.

i go for Kodak BW400CN (not this specific one, but a 24 exposure roll)
http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-BW400CN-Professional-Exposures-Black/dp/B000L9M20G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374793279&sr=8-1&keywords=kodak+black+and+white
Processes in C-41 chemicals so you can take it anywhere, produces good results. prints are lovely and not grainy and the scans look nice too, a reviewer said it's easier to scan this film than other BW film.
here are some shots i did with it scanned on my epson v500, though i'm not that good at scanning yet but i think they look better than my color shots (i think flickr is down until 10pm if the links don't work)

i pure heavy recommend fuji neopan 400
[editline]26th July 2013[/editline]
it comes in both proper black and white, and c-41 black and white varieties
i shoot 120 superia x-tra(??) 400 not because it gives you ~amazing~ colours or ~no~ grain but because I got tons of it for cheap
I had one of those and I kept trying to bring it to concerts and they kept saying it was a professional camera and they don't allow those near the band so I had to buy a fuckin Nex instead. They figure if it's anything like the vita nothing good can come from it
I wish I was still a pro
That seemed rather silly.
Any experiences with ND filters?
I know nothing about them but I want to try them.
I would need a 52mm one.
[editline]28th July 2013[/editline]
I am particularly confused by the terminology.
cambridgeincolour tells me that ND 4.0 means 1/10 000 light reduction, yet the stuff I see on Amazon has names like
Hama Vario ND2-400 Filter 52 mm
but also
Hoya HMC Graufilter NDX8 52mm
so this is an ND 8.0 filter? A really strong one?

Get a fixed value ND filter. The variable ones just suck, and not just a little bit.
The Hoya NDx8 is a 8 stops filter, and the 2-400 is a 2 to 400 stops filter.
And with B+W you just have 101 to 110 filters, they are 1 to 10 stops according to the number (so 106 is a 6 stops filter).
Ok. I guess the variable ones fuck with the colours?
I'd like to get one that can create blurred movements in daylight as well as for that water-mist effect since I live near the coast.
You think 8 is senough?

8 Should be fine, I use a 10 stop and it's sometimes a little too dark.
Welp. My sister called me up asking how much the cameras I got from her would go for because she needs to pay for repairs on a vehicle. Any one know were she could unload these at in Dallas, Tx?

Well I'm in Arlington and we don't really have a shop in the area that would buy these for a good price. You could take them to a pawn shop but they would bend you over the table on they would give you. Your best bet would probably be to put them on craigslist or ebay. And try sell them separately because you'll probably get more for them that way.
Probably wouldn't get much for them total any way you go, the Polaroids are probably worth the most overall but still in the $20-30 range I think. The kodaks probably not much at all if anything, and the folding camera depends on the brand, but it doesn't look like zeiss or contax so I'm not sure
So, I never checked out the photo/video section on Craigslist list, because I thought it would just be a bunch of old point and shoots and camcorders. But I just checked it out and its so far beyond that
Instead, I find a cornucopia of low price pro equipment, including this:

This lady has almost everything I need. Its difficult finding things for my Minolta, and this person on creigslist has almost everything I have been looking for, from the 28mm 2.8, to the Minolta motor drive 1. I set up an appointment to meet her tomorrow. I'm almost crying with happiness!
So I'll be taking a photography class next semester. It's always been a thing I've been interested in, pretty excited! Well the class makes a note that you'll need a 35mm camera, my dad was happy to dig out his old gear from probably before I was even born.
This is what I got to work with:
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CHWjJKk.jpg[/img_thumb]
Cameras:
x1 Ashai Pentax Spotmatic SP II
x1 Minotla 7000 Maxxum
Lenses:
x1 AF 24 (seen on camera)
x1 AF 50 sans lens cap
x1 AF 70-210
x1 Polarizing filter
Miscellaneous:
x1 Minolta 2800 AF Flash
x5 batteries that probably don't work anymore.
x3 lens caps which I cannot find who they belong to.
How's my gear so far Facepunch? Any suggestions on film so I can go out and test these puppies out before class?
the minolta 7000 is a pretty good camera, and you have some really nice lenses overall. the 24, 50, and 70-210 are all excellent.
i'm going tomorrow to look at cameras on craigslist, this guy is selling 40 cameras for $125 so i figured there might be something in there i could sell, there is some sort of modern nikon zoom (a nikon 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 me thinks) in there so i'll already be close just from selling that. dumping all the P&S cameras is going to suck though

you're in the us so i dunno if you get dollar store film, but you might be able to find cheap film online. really doesn't matter the brand or anything as long as it's agfa, fuji or kodak. shoot a roll in the minolta, experiment with different modes like aperture priority and the 24 & 50. just walk around your city or whatever shooting stuff to get a feel for how the camera works, the modes etc.
then rewind the film (it might do this automatically, idk) and take it out, take the roll to walgreens and get it developed and scanned to cd, no prints. should only cost a few bux but i don't know the going rate in the US.
Need to buy a 60D but I don't have the cash.
Oh well time to eat into my overdraft further..

holy shit buy this you will make so much money from selling these on ebay
[editline]31st July 2013[/editline]
i think
oh man i dropped my 50 1.8 last night onto the pavement, and it rolled down, bounced again and rolled into some grass with neither cap on.
pick it up, no af.
it's dark so i take a stab in the dark and smack the af ring
af works again but crunchy and slow
move into to infinity and smack the front elements ring
do it again with the ring at like 1m
try af again
works perfect
you fucking warrior of a lens.
Wish you were in the UK Trog cos I'd take that brown leather k1000 off you so fast if it was in working order incl. lightmeter
Idk if I'm going through with if, there's 5 boxes of shit I don't know if I have room lol
[editline]31st July 2013[/editline]
Plus he said they were boxed already and if they were stored in cardboard it's likely they got fungus and it would spread to the whole lot
yeah i'm going to pass it's just a bunch of low end old things that would waste space and be terrible to resell, just hoping for another minolta bundle i can make some cash off of before summer ends
in other non 50mm smashing news, the super 8 camera i bought for £2.50 is cleaned up, cost £1.50 in components (a pp3 aa battery holder) and now works perfect like
Sigma does it again, this time a FULL FRAME 24-70mm f2 zoom
Yes a constant f2 full frame zoom
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-et-voila-first-picture-of-the-sigma-24-70mm-f2-0-full-frame-lens/

If its anything like the 18-35 optically it's going to be absolutely incredible. The 18-35 has been reviewed as one of the highest performing zooms ever made. Wide open is incredible and it has an exact t1.8 transmission.
Also in the sigma pipeline is an optically stabilized 135mm f1.8, that should be crazy too.
Also also in m4/3rds news, Panasonic has announced a 42.5mm f1.2 prime with Leica. It has image stabilization, making it the fastest aperture lens to ever have this feature, defeating the former king the Sony 50mm 1.8 e mount lens
Optics are really exciting right now!
Sold my 30mm 1.4 on ebay and the woman is returning it because it back focuses' apparently
never noticed myself but it's a pain in the ass having to get it returned and sell it on again. Sold it cheap anyway.
It was hidden behind a bottle of vodka in my house:

Is it junk or it's worth something?
during a shoot a couple months back, my B800 flash unit exploded. Took a little while, but thanks to an old electrical engineer friend (and $45 in parts), my dead 800 is now a functional 1600, heh

6x9 Medium format SLR? Yep, worth something. No idea how much but a quick google search tells me it's very cool, IF it still works.
