You have not thought about buying a DSLR and getting a Wifi adapter? For about the same price as that G6 you could get a Nikon D5200 w/ 18-55 kit lens and the wifi adapter.
Worse video bitrates, worse frame rate options, poor AF during video, no OLED EVF (good for video), smaller viewfinder, no touch screen, no NFC, size additions from wifi adapter, less wifi features even with adapter, not as good for adaptable lenses...
DSLR is not the answer to everything
eh, whatever floats your boat I guess. I just looked at some pictures taken with the G6, and while they were certainly satisfactory, I was not too blown away by them considering the price. High ISO performance was pretty lackluster, but if you are going to be photographing buildings then that should not really be an issue as long as the lights work. Might want to pick up a spare battery because the battery life is on the lower end of the spectrum.
best of luck to you rilez
g6 is pretty cool, I know a bunch of people who use it to film and in that department it's probably the best choice in your budget
If you had wanted a dslr I'd have told you to go with the 60d because the 70d is out so it should get a bit cheaper and it has ML working on it

The 60D is a lot cheaper right now, Canon has been having a fire sale on it for months now.
That's because the 60D is a outdated camera to be honest. The sensor in the G6 will be better at higher ISO values.
Not saying the 60D isn't a good camera, but it's just like buying a 7D new now. It's not a wise thing to do.
Also if you are doing house photos look into the Panasonic 7-14mm, supposed to be one of the best wide angle lenses around for any system
I was gonna suggest that lens, it's pretty good. You'll get 14-28mm on FF equiv.
My friend wants to learn the fundamentals of photography, and I have to pick out his camera. I'm looking for something all manual, and below $50. I have a few minolta lenses I can give him, so if its a minolta, that's a bonus. If not, all he needs is 50mm (like I said, hes a basic student)
Any recommendations?

Don;t know about Minolta, but the Canon AE-1 (or Program) is an absolute kickass camera for it's price.
I'm looking for a video light, the one where you can mount it on the hot shoe mount.
Any good, cheap recommendations? Budget is around 30 bucks
Yeah, I could take them with a smart phone. But that reflects poorly on me, and potential tenants will notice. Even if I brought my laptop with me (which doesn't have a reader) it would still be easier to NFC the camera to my phone and send them that way.
Here's the price I'm looking at: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-G6KK-Compact-Digital-14-42mm/dp/B00CFCTDD6
I would have thought a mirrorless camera would be a better solution. For same or less price than a G6They have the sensor from a DSLR without the size and weight, the autofocus system does not focus as fast as an DSLR but if your shooting housing they wont be moving so thats no problem
I would of thought it would be better for you to transfer the photos to a laptop and then upload rather than direct from the camera as it allows you make minor tweaks to the photos first
Looking into some SD cards, good brands to go for, shit brands to avoid?
Transcend if you wanna go relatively cheap. Kingstons also a fair bet. You can go far up on the price.
I do lots of videography, even though a class 6 is the bare minimum, I aim for cards that are at least class 10. Hell I even run into problems with class 10 cards when starting recordings.

Have you ran speed tests on the cards to make sure they are class 10s?
I've had cards in the past advertised as class 10s but with a speed checker program found them to only be class 6 that were rebadged

Well Transcend UHC cards are fairly cheap as well, but their Class 10 are a steal really. So just get that.

The Class 10 card I was talking about is the SanDisk Ultra 32GB. It's rated to have a 30MB/s read and a 10MB/s write. I speed tested it (using CrystalMark) and it says to have a write speed of around 11.1MB/s and 20.5MB/s read (50MB seq. test)
Maybe the cards initial write speed is shit? Maybe Canon made the camera firmware so it idles the in-camera SD card slot? Maybe waking up the SD card slot is slow? Maybe the in-camera buffer is too small (60D, so it's larger than the Rebel series)?
There's a bottleneck somewhere and I'm guessing it's the SD card's initial write speeds.
Oh yeah I forgot SanDisk, obviously SanDisk is great too.
So I read this:
http://www.tested.com/tech/photography/456861-why-it-sometimes-makes-sense-buy-microsd-instead-full-size/
a while back. Any thoughts?
At Costco, the 32GB Sandisk Ultra microSDHC is $29.99 while the SDHC version is $31.99. Costco increased the price on these SD cards though, the SDHC used to be $26.99, then it went up to $28.99, then $29.99, and now $31.99. I bought mine when it was $28.99 or $29.99.
get a sandisk extreme pro full uhd big fuck off whatever
do not skimp on it - my cheap transcend died with no warning, this sandisk has lasted me 2 years no problems.
SD cards are so relatively cheap from the "alright" ones to the awesome ones so you may as well go all out

Those are so damn expensive...
I could just get a SanDisk Extreme, not the Extreme Pro for $39.99 (32GB, 45MB/s read with probably 20MB/s write). I'm gonna avoid buying those refurbished cards, people are bidding higher than getting a brand new one (some over $50 when I can get one for $39.99 on sale).
Or a Kingston Ultimate 32GB UHS-I Class 10 SDHC Card for $29.99 on sale. It has a 60MB/s read.
40$ isn't so damn expensive for something which can fuck you up so badly and is a pretty important thing
[editline]23rd August 2013[/editline]
i'd probably get 2 16 gbs rather than 1 32 for even more safety (i own a 32gb transend c10 thing but all my photo's are bad so it doesn't really matter)

it's $35 for a 32GB sandisk extreme in the UK, why is it so much more expensive in murrica?

You mean Canada. Taxes and shit.
Cheapest SanDisk Extreme 32GB is $39.99
http://www.adencamera.com/product-overviewer.asp?ProdID=3080&Category=9
Then there's the Kingston Ultimate 32GB UHS-I Class 10 SDHC Card at $29.99
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=11_1216_175_176&item_id=060570
Everything is cheaper in murrica, not so much Canada.
I just got a cheap transcend 32GB, it says class 10 but I doubt it. My camera buffer fills before the card and it's never had a problem in the year that I've had it, so I'm happy with it. Was like $20 when I bought it
If you are shooting high FPS your camera buffer means more than your card speed.
why is the 17-35 L ~£100 more expensive than the 16-35 L, I though all L-enses were of ~the same quality
I definitely recommend spending the extra $250 and getting the new 16-35L. In terms of sharpness, contrast, and extra features, you will get your monies worth. The new lens has less distortion at 16mm than the previous 17-35L at 17mm. Another welcome improvement is the 16-35L's ability to focus at 0.28m/0.9ft.
No idea where you're getting the 17-35L for more than the 16-35L when the 16-35L should be the more expensive one.

used, but both are exc++ and mpb are pretty cool about quality and stuff

I would pick the 16-35. It was my dream lens when I still shot canon.
I would pick none of them (because i'm poor)

and I'll only need for like a week anyway so I might just rent it (wedding ffs)
