[QUOTE=dwt110;42024361]so what do I buy if I want my sensor to get less light so I can take long exposure pictures in broad daylight, because I could not get faster than 1/4 a second trying to get one of those smooth water pictures of my pool[/QUOTE]
ND filter
You can also make the aperture smaller
any takers?

That's a pretty big lens...
Is my memory card the issue when I take a picture and it takes a moment or two for it to write to process and write to the card before I can view it? It's annoying when I shoot sports and I do a 5 photo burst and I have to wait 5 or 10 seconds for the shots to become visible and in that time I miss a lot of action. My current card is a Sandisk 8gb Class 10
[editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
i heard something about sandisk extreme pro being really good?
That's likely your card and buffer
[editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
Probably more your card though
Anyone have any experience with a nikon d3100? I want to get into photography and I wonder if that's a good one for a beginner.

i got one
it's my first and only one and i find no problems with it really
minor flaws is that there's no mic in and timelapse support

What camera do you have? Pretty sure it's the slow card because previewing (pretty sure) reads off the card and never from the buffer (unless you don't have a card in the camera).
D5200

which needs to be replaced anyway since it holds only ~200 shots
also, I need a spare battery or two, and I dont wanna shell out $40 per spare nikon OEM batteries when there are 3rd party ones that last longer (supposedly) and are like 1/3 the cost, but there are some things I read where 3rd party batteries dont work because nikon has some firmware that only lets the cameras accept nikon batteries.
I'd recommend the SanDisk Extreme, it's twice as fast as your Ultra. Extreme Pro if you don't want to wait around at all as it's about 3 times faster or more than your Ultra.
Also do you record video ever on that card? Do you ever get any recording errors caused by the card not writing fast enough?

Looks pretty legit with over a thousand sold and a pretty high rating on the seller.

It's probably not very good but it's most likely legit. I mean it just sends out an infrared light, not too complex to make. Range won't be great though, you're looking at 30ft TOPS
And I have a crappy transcend 32gb and I've recorded video for over an hour without the card being bottlenecks or failing, I think video works fine on most all memory cards. Just viewing stills at full size is where the card speed becomes an issue
If you have some time, record some more video. I've ran into recording problems similar to what I experienced with a Canon DSLR and a SanDisk Ultra 32GB and on a Nikon D5100.

Pulled the trigger on it. It says only 16 feet in the description, but I mainly want one for long/short exposure tripod shots.

Looking to get one for Canon too.

A penny...
Although it doesn't come with the battery, I can get a pack of 5 for a dollar off eBay.

In that case, I'd recommend you to get a proper remote since you're not going to hold that button forever.
google answered my question nevermind

does the sensor stay exposed the entire time i hold the button on the remote?
So I got asked to film my friends DJ sets and follow him around with my glidecam. Anyone else done anything like this? I'm freaking out thinking that a laser will hit my sensor or something after seeing this:
[video=youtube;J0TgaGePhJA]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0TgaGePhJA[/video]
I'm gonna be on main stage for the most part though, so I'll just have to be careful when I'm not on it.

I just asked in the last page about the D3100 and the Rebel T3. From what I heard, if you're looking to get into photography, these two were on par with each other. I've heard good things about both of them. I just bought a D3100 as my first DSLR. But dwt110 made a good post about the comparisons of both.
[QUOTE=dwt110;42021888]My sister has a D3100, and sneaking around using that without her permission is what brought me into the DSLR world. It's hella light and easy to carry around. Compared to the T3, the main advantages it has is that the video is better (T3 has 720/30 max, D3100 has 1080/24 max). The 3100 has two more AF points and ever so slightly less shutter lag, but those two points are negligible the difference is so small. Of course, Nikon being typical Nikon, there is no in body AF motor in the 3100, which means the older lenses won't be able to autofocus on it, you have to buy the Nikon lenses labeled AF-S, or other brands with an in-lens focus motor. The D3100 has a better build quality and larger screen, the T3 has a decent bit more battery life.[/QUOTE]
Yeah not facing towards the lasers would be a nice idea.

if it helps anything, here are a couple pictures taken (for airsoft subforum/various companies) with the D3100 and 18-55 kit lens

they are kinda shitty quality because photobucket hosted, although i believe you can download them to see the full size, not positive though.
didnt bother taking any normal pictures because i wasnt interested in photography when I took those pictures a few months back
Lol various companies

I've done about 2 hours continuously with no problems. Then I recently did two shoots for about 1 hour total each, so it works fine. But my camera only records ~28/Mbps iirc

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna get it. As for the memory cards, a 16gb sandisk extreme should be good, right?

if you're really scared there's tons of laser shielding windows/domes out there, i doubt any of them are ND (i.e. no colour shifts) but you can correct those
Sony is working on a FF mirrorless camera, and then they are also working on a camera with sensor shifting on the Z axis for autofocus (like the contax AX)
I think manual glass prices are going to go up a bit in the next year.
i wonder if someone could do a firmware hack on the sony sensor plane anti shaky hands tech and accomplish something similar (although I doubt there would be enough travel, it'd be useful with manual glass because you'd only need to roughly focus)
[editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
or even just to do something like in body tilt shift
[editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
thinking about getting the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8
it's a lot (~£250) cheaper than canon's offering and apparently nearly as good (and as good when stopped down, which I hope the VC will allow me to do)
it's either that, or a 35 1.4 and I can't afford the canon, so it'll have to be the samyang 35 1.4 which although sharp and w/e has no af, and the main reason I'm getting a new lens is because I've been coerced into being a 2nd photographer at my uncle's wedding which would be a pisstake without af or the sigma 35 which is expensive and not wide enough
recently I shot the engagement, and although everyone seemed v happy with the images group photos were a bitch to take my 50 1.8 (on a crop camera), and I'm not sure 35 will be wide enough anyway
