"tripod wouldn't work"
aye it will
better than unwatchable mess
yeah that was our first movie, i used autofocus all the way through, bleh
i seriously need a steadicam thing though for my next project
Don't use AF and apply a warp stabilizer at the very least
The d3100 isn't meant to be used like that. Some cameras you can do AF and handheld fine, but this isn't one of them.

nowadays i use a tripod and manual focus, it's okay
warp stabilizers look like shit
Either the footage was shit to begin with or you're using the wrong settings
There are no settings on the camera.
I did add some post fx like procamp and color correction
Well my price range was hopefully around $300, lower if I can manage it. Which is why I leaned towards the T3 or D3100.

I think I'll go with the D3100.

Ordered! Now comes the waiting game...
Oh my god... shipping is so slow... It sat at the warehouse ready to be picked up by UPS for three days, where it was then picked up by UPS and proceeded to sit at the UPS facility for two days. lol I just want my camera already. :(
No image stabilization on the lens?
No image stabilization on the lens?
Only when I take pictures
No image stabilization for video on the lens? What?
No image stabilization for video on the lens? What?
don't think so, it's pretty shakey
don't think so, it's pretty shakey
I don't believe that the VR on your lens would be shakier than what you just posted.
Craigslist guy on the glidecam didn't respond :(
I think I'm just going to shell out full price. I'd rather buy new knowing that the seller isn't trying to hide that he broke it (like my previous purchase, which I managed to fix however)
Are you sure you turned on VR in your lens for the recording?
Also what lens?
I don't believe that the VR on your lens would be shakier than what you just posted.
i do have vr on my lens but i don't think it makes a difference on video

stock 18-55 lens, lenses are too expensive
VR won't correct that much shake. VR + Shoulder mount and you are in BUSINESS

VR does make a difference, most noticeably when you're zoomed in
Yes, lenses are expensive
Sony is doing things I didn't expect. Now they're doing this:

So a real camera for your smartphone that works with WIFI.
Prices will be about 250$ for the QX10 and 500$ for the QX100. Not super cheap, but the QX100 is basicly a RX100, so it should be quite good.

I'm guessing the VR was either turned off during the video or there was too much shake for the VR to fix much of it. Or someone had too much coffee.

it was the same month i got the camera too, i was not experienced in the slightest.
yeah pretty sure the VR was off
just compared the two, there's no difference
the vr just compensates a tiny bit when using autofocus while taking pictures
just... learn to use a tripod and go from there
you can do wonders if you keep shutter speed at 1/50

carry around the tripod?
i can't set shutter speed while in video mode
no manual video mode?
edit: I'm being silly, switch to Manual mode on the dial, turn on live view and press record
tripod plus dolly would have been enough to do that easily
no manual video mode?

sure i can do that but i can't change iso/shutter speed/anything
tripod plus dolly would have been enough to do that easily
i didn't even have a tripod at the time, can't go back in time

Oh my god, Nikon DSLR video is worse than I thought.

it's a budget beginner camera, can't really expect more
gonna buy a better one when going to japan next year, are there any good ones coming up?
carry around the tripod?

no
put the tripod on the ground
you'd be amazed what you can do
why not

600D is a beginner camera and has it

Depends on what you want, if you want the cheapest 1080p recording on a DSLR, get the Canon T2i/550D.
If you really want a flippy screen, get a T3i/600D.
If you really want STM and better on board mic that is actually stereo and maybe the touch screen, get a T4i/650D.
The T5i/700D is litterally no different than the T4i.
If you want a better body, get a 60D. Those bodies are selling like hot cakes right now.
Want a newer, not 3-year-old version of the 60D? Get the 70D. It's like new as in released recently.
Canon DSLRs have the ability to use something called Magic Lantern, although it's limited to specific camera models.
None of the Nikon DSLRs have proper manual control over video recording because of the Live View bug. If you want to do proper video, get Canon.
Your Nikon lens will not work on a Canon camera without an adapter which is kind of useless.
Have more money? Get a GH3, it's a m4/3 with hilariously amazing video. Much better than any other camera mentioned above. Or the much older, GH2 with some hacks.
