i can't really use a tripod if the stuff we're making isn't scripted

then get a shoulder rig or improvise to add stability

and that's what's going to cost me money
i don't do that much filmmaking for it to even be worth it to me

Just answer yes or no to the following:
Do you want a flippy screen?
Do you want all of the manual controls you can get your hands on?
Do you care about audio?
What is your budget at the end of the day?
When in doubt, buy a 5D Mark III

So expensive, at most I'd get a 6D for Full Frame and the kit lens.
Or ditch Canon everything and try out the GH3 and some lens.
I am amazed how you can talk about dslrs for pages. Just buy the newest one or the one that you can afford. They are all decent. And most questions can be solved with google.

dude
i use my tripod on my shoulder
and it's perfect.
you can get away with handheld if you do it right and practice, i've got really stable stuff without any rig
i can't really use a tripod if the stuff we're making isn't scripted
how about:
put camera on tripod, hold the whole assembly near centre of gravity; vibration should be somewhat damped

yeah or this, you can improvise a shoulder rig with a tripod
sure, it won't be as good or comfy than a proper one, but it's better than nothing at all

don't care about a flippy screen
yes
if i can plug in a microphone then it doesn't really matter does it?
i always plan my budget on how much i'm going to use it, so not that much

you want a flippy screen, trust me

eh, i wouldnt say "just buy the newest one you can afford" because in some cases depending on what you want, an older model might be better, like buying a refurbed D7000 instead of a D5200 because you want the in-body AFS motor and need the fancy things a D7000 can do that a D5200 cant. (aka what i should have done, but i really like my d5200 flippy screen)

how
really? i've only used them on camcorders
i dunno? it shakes when i walk
i dunno? it shakes when i walk
Use your shoulder as a fulcrum and let gravity do it's thing. Walk on your toes and try to minimize movement between your hands and the tripod as much as possible.

if your tripod can't do portrait mode you must have a pretty shitty tripod
if your tripod can't do portrait mode you must have a pretty shitty tripod
i was able to do it but it's still really shakey, can't tread lightlier
i should get a new tripod and do that disassembling trick

there a mix of handheld stuff in here, i'd hope this serves as living proof can you go handheld and no make it look completely shitty

but half of that is static tripod and the rest is shaky
Here's a video I shot entirely handheld (except 2nd shot) and just used a warp stabilizer and optical stabilizer

It's very possible to have non shaky handheld video
jfc just buy a camera you can afford or save more money, you can't expect us to miraculously solve your problem of wanting the best camera for the least money - you know as much as we do

getting the camera in your hands as soon as possible is important so you can start practicing your shooting
but half of that is static tripod and the rest is shaky
yeah but it's not nauseating shaky.
If you're using a shoulder rig, a flippy screen will save your neck quiet a bit.
Just get a t3i
shaky handheld isn't always bad, it's just a matter of how shaky
Guys, best dslr for video that's relatively inexpensive? I have my old cannon rebel xti, and it's great for photos, but it can't shoot video in any way shape or form.
Look at the T3i
I'm really liking the looks of it, and I'll definitely . When I can scrape some money together I'll probably grab just a body, seeing that I already have everything else that I need. If any one else has suggestions, I'd prefer to stay cannon so I can keep using my lenses.
