I was too busy chasing my lens on the floor and didn't really see him. Would've bashed his skull in with it.
You may have lost a lens, but you've gained a valuable baton.
I got a new camera bag at the weekend Billingham 335 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr I can fit much more in the bag but that is my normal camera set up. (on another note I have a lot of pictures to post)
Some drunk asshole bumped into me when I was changing lenses and made me drop my 24-70 f2.8 L, autofocus is fucked and bayonet bent. Thanks dickweed
nooooooooooo not the L Lens!

I'm thinking over a bazillion camera bodies because of what I want to do, what's realistic to get, the costs, etc. The base is at least a Canon T2i, but I want at least a 60D because swivel screen and professional body, then I jump into the Panasonic GH2 or GH3 because of the gawdly amazing video mode for film making.
Gh3 is supposed to be tight, just limited in inexpensive m43 lenses and adapted lenses with a 2x crop make it difficult to get anything remotely wide angle.
Gh3 is supposed to be tight, just limited in inexpensive m43 lenses and adapted lenses with a 2x crop make it difficult to get anything remotely wide angle.
forgot about that hilarious crop, all of the other options for Canon are also crop but less with their 1.6x crop on aps-c sensor.
7d. Magic lantern has been cracked for it, I own one and it's amazing.
Photography newbie here, what do you think of the D5100 as a first time camera? I'm tossing up between that or the D3200, but leaning towards the D5100.

For example, if you're in the menu and you don't know what a setting does, you can just hit that button for extended information about it. Same applies to literally everything. The body also has a pro level sensor in it.
7d. Magic lantern has been cracked for it, I own one and it's amazing.
[insert bitching about how the 7D is 2 years old, also a crop sensor]
[insert bitching about how the 7D is 2 years old, also a crop sensor]
You wish the 7D was 2 years old, it's almost 4 years old But I the bright side the sensor is still being used in the upcoming t5i so... Also there is nothing wrong with crop sensors

Another Photography newbie here, I ordered the Nikon 1 J1 and its my first major camera and it comes with a 10-30mm nikkor lens. It should be at home when I come back, im looking forward to shooting with it.

Another option for me is the Nikon D7000 w/ 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens with 2x 8GB cards and a camera bag for $1099 at Costco (Canada). The only reason why is because it's Costco and it's nearby and I go to Costco with my family often and it has a 90 day money back guarantee (which is really good and better than almost every other place). I've read some reviews and videos (DigitalRev) and it does compare well with the Canon 7D. The Nikon D7100 came out recently with some more features and good stuff. All are still the affordable APS-C sensor. The body only costs less than the 7D (probably can't get the 7D either due to body only price $999-$1199) which costs around $800. [insert it costs less which must mean it's shittier than the one that costs more money] It only has 24fps 1080p which is the only thing I'll use anyways. I also won't be able to use Magic Lantern unless there's a Nikon equivalent. And Nikon has always been behind on the video side on DSLRs. Also, all of my friends are Pro-Canon, everyone has a fucking Rabal (T2i, T3i) or some other Canon DSLR with Canon lenses and shit. [insert ignore fanboyism] although it would be good to do comparisons and shit. Being able to use their lenses (assuming those all won't work without an adapter and I probably won't get an adapter) and batteries (if I get a T2i+) is kind of a plus. I've felt the camera and the lens at Costco but never really had the chance to get it powered up and used it because they don't provide a live demo with a power supply and I can't stick a battery in it because the anti-theft thing is in the way. It isn't too heavy, the grip feels nice and big and I can actually grip this well since it's a larger body than the usual Rabal bodies. There's the top LCD which I love, not sure if the lens that was demo'd 100 percently new and such but it felt relatively smooth in terms of zooming and focusing. I didn't entirely check but I think the kit lens focus is the same as Canon lenses but I know for sure the zooming is the opposite which would take getting used to since I'm always using Canon lenses. [insert it's not that hard to switch and you should be more adaptive when using different cameras and lenses as a photographer, and stop bitching about the little things]. I know it's a camera that I will enjoy this camera nonetheless but there's things like lack of flippy screen on cameras such as the Canon 60D (which I could also get, still just as old but with same body, same-ish features, worse AF points, same pro body style, magic lantern avaliable, Canon lens access, costs more than the D7000 when comparing the specs and features...). I'm both a photographer and film maker, tight on money but huge on specs, features and stuff. TL;DR: I'm gearfagging on the Nikon D7000 as a Canon Fanboy.
Throw a curve ball and consider the a77 You can get a body+16-50mm 2.8 for around $1400 Has 1080 60p and a super super flippy screen that is literally so cool, plus the EVF works in video which is nice. And full time autofocus during video which works excellent. You don't have to think about focus if you don't want to, it has peaking for focus if you want to (highlights sharp areas with a color of choice), and being able to use a private viewfinder or a flipping screen in line with the lens makes it a very easy to use camera for video. I got mine mostly for video, and I like it. As far as usability goes for video it isn't really matched by Canon or Nikon, but the video fidelity isn't as good as Canon not sure about Nikon. I say it's a better camera for run and gun video, I use mine for like gig stuff (concerts, recitals and the like) not private cinema stuff (because it isn't as high quality of video bitrate). If you want cinema stuff it probably isn't as good though.
I haven't really looked into Sony dslrs but Sony is pretty good also.
their price points are really attractive IMO, and the ability to use older minolta lenses that can be bought for piss off of craigslist (got a 70-210 f4 for $50, a 28-105 f3.5-4.5 for $30, a 50mm 1.7 for $35, and a 28-135mm f4-4.5 for $115) adds to this. and their 16-50mm f2.8 is less than half of the nikon or canon equivalent (theirs are 17-55mm f2.8's). it to get an equivalent canon/nikon kit you would have to spend significantly more money, although the lenses themselves might be better on video the subtle nuances of lenses are less important because it's like 2mp
Have fun with it! (and make sure to leave the house to take photos)
I will, I'll post some pictures I've taken with it. In the proper thread of course.
Oh snap, I remember going to the Sony Store and trying out that flippy screen (not sure if it was the same camera but I know it's the same LCD screen), it's pretty nice and it looks like I can flip it to the top or the bottom of the camera. It also has a top LCD (a.k.a. pro body). Then I looked at the price and $1399 USD, might be out of my price point. Also if the Nikon D7000 really equals to the Canon 7D I might get that instead of the 60D if I really want to sacrifice the flippy screen, Magic lantern and better video for better photography related features and weather sealed/metal body.
eBay has a lot of great used a77's because people are selling them to find the a99, and they do sell new from online retailers for around $900 iirc
Neat-o.
Where do I get that.
These guys make it http://freeflysystems.com/ Looks like a steadicam for double the price of a steadicam (basically, you have to sell your home if you're an amateur user). Looks like it's aimed at indie film makers who still have a large budget.
You have to understand the market, those guys are competing with other guys for the ~~studio~~ guys' $$$$$$$ it's a rat race, we get to benefit from the scrapz [sp]meant to be a positive message btw[/sp]

They saw an opportunity to make huge amounts of money by opening up to large business who don't care about the price tag.
