Because it's good, that's why.
get a 50
This, get the cheapo version (not more than $100).
Great for street photography on a full frame body.
Great for headshots & portraiture on a APS body.
Works great as a macro lens in combination of a kit lens.

it's 4/3 tho, it's about a 100mm lens equiv.
get the pancake.
Ordered a third party battery grip and a pair of third party 2600mAh batteries for my future Canon EOS 6D.
I read some reviews and figured the grips made by Meike are almost as good as Canon's official grips, while the batteries usually have cells made by the same manufacturer. So I should be good.
As long as the LP-E6 has a chip you're fine. I wouldn't want to have a unchipped LP-E6 batterij myself to be honest.
I've been thinking of trying my hand at photography. I was wondering, are there any cheap starter cameras I can use to start, or will an old point-and-shoot digital be fine for a beginner?

You might as well get something like a Canon EOS 1100D (with kit lens) and a cheap 50mm 1.8 lens. Those will provide you with decent quality for trying to get started, and it'll be pretty cheap.
Batteries are chipped so i guess they are okay.
I have read reports about some aftermarket batteries just simply not working in a 6D, but i'd guess they might have fixed it by now.

Thanks a ton, dude.
I don't know anything about cameras but how is the Nikon D800 like?
Thanks for the funny but I would've liked an answer

i think so, it's a bit difficult to find information on them online but that seems like a good price for one.

if you don't know anything about camera a d800 is not where you should start looking, as it is a semi-professional camera (2nd highest end body Nikon makes) made for people who use the features to make a living. it's an incredible camera, but i would not recommend it at all to someone who "doesn't know anything about cameras"

I wasn't really asking for buying one, it's just that my dad has 2 of em...

i started with mirrorless cameras personally (you can see the exposure effects on the screen), and i think they are a good place to begin. they are a bit more compact than SLR style cameras, and the constant releases mean that the prices are quite a bit less though they provide the same image quality as SLR cameras (they have the same sized sensors)
i have a nex 5, which can be had for around $250 used on eBay, a great price i think for a great camera. The 5n is a bit more but comes with a touch screen as well as some other good features, and the newer models aren't much different than it. the 18-55mm lens is pretty good and i would recommend starting with that (good range, quick and quiet focusing). good performance all around, and i still use mine fairly often. great camera to grow with as you can get adapters to use a lot of old film lenses with manual focusing.

well then yeah they are great cameras, what exactly do you want to know about them?

He said that I could borrow one of them for starting out photography and I wanted to know if they were ok for starters if you don't factor in the price.

Hi guys, I had a quick question on lenses.
I was looking at some pentax ones, and does branding matter?
On this page, there's like 5 different brands and I don't know which ones are good:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Pentax+FA+50mm+f%2F1.4&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.XPentax+50mm+f%2F1.4&_nkw=Pentax+50mm+f%2F1.4&_sacat=0
I'm looking for one similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005ABC5/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p421_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0NV4SJVVFGZ3EWX3V9Z5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1630083502&pf_rd_i=507846
I'm new so I have no clue what I'm doing
EDIT: also, what is a prime lens?
Prime lenses only have one fixed focal length so you cannot zoom in or out. Often these lenses are smaller, lighter, sharper and allow more light than zoom lenses.

Branding differences are just different companies making lenses, performance should be pretty similar across lenses. With and Takumar lenses you will need an m42 to k mount adapter, because it has a different mount. The adapter will make things work though. I would just get the cheapest one, performance differences won't be much different between the best and worst lenses for what you are looking for. The official pentax ones will probably perform best, followed by the super takumars (if image quality is a primary concern).
The one you linked on amazon has autofocus, which might be important as manual focusing can be pretty tough on digital cameras. If you have a film camera though I would go for a manual focus lens
I finally got my hands on 28mm minolta mount lens!

and it looks like seven bucks too...
oof, those dots under the front element probably aren't good
oof, those dots under the front element probably aren't good
it was literally under a pile of coaxial cables that were lying on the asphalt, its had a really rough life.:v:
it'll probably be a tester for now, and i'll pay the $50 for a near mint 28mm later on down the road.
i'll let you know if i come across one, that one makes me sad to look at lol
Thanks! The more eyes looking out for MD and MC lenses the better, its hard to find info on them. Old minolta lenses are generally forgot about, and they are usually very nice quality glass.

im also gonna hit that lens with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, give it a nice face lift
What kind of fittings exist so I can mount a camera to my 76mm Bushnell telescope?
can you change the mount on a camera to something else?
i'm talking the whole bayonet from one camera to another
am i stark raving mad?

Most commonly it's not possible. Because lenses are designed with different flange distances in mind. It is possible with some lenses though, the company Leitax offers conversions and is definitely the most successful name around. Usually done on Zeiss ZF, Contax, and Leica R lenses though as these are the "desirable" lenses. Tamron Adaptall and Vivitar TX (and T4) lenses have interchangeable mounts and are pretty good lenses, worth looking into if changing mounts is your thing
Also if you are really wealthy and into zeiss, their Contax N lenses can be adapted to EF with successful autofocus by a company called Conurus. But it's more for the name than anything, these lenses and conversions are ridiculous in price.
also you can just gut a cameraphone with a nice sensor and just ghetto rig a mirrorless camera from that if you're going down that route
