I like the massive amount of buttons you get.
Dedicated ISO, and shutter speed, exposure comp dials...
No movie mode lol
I think I would enjoy using this camera.
Df is the lamest high end camera anyone has ever made
$2750 gets you: 1/4000 shutter max and only full stops available on the dial, the D4 sensor which is DxO's lowest rated FF sensor Nikon offers, absolutely no video modes at all, two hands required to change exposure in manual mode, a worse AF system than the D610, less comfortable top shutter button, no weather sealing, a body not much smaller than the current D600, and the biggest selling point is the use of AI lenses with metering but no way to actually support a split prism! Even the lens has $100 tacked on and is the same as the current G lens but has a silver ring. At $2750 aside from having a sensor that's only in the D4 (a much more expensive camera) it is by far the lowest spec'd FF that Nikon offers. The almost $800 less D610 has better features everywhere except uses a different sensor.
The camera is retro for the sake of being retro, and a better shooting experience is being sacrificed for cosmetics. I would forgive at a lower price point, but at the price this is in the market it's actually insulting to customers.
Do I get a second hand D700 or a Fujifilm X-E1?
I feel like I've surpassed my D90 (what a fucking incredible camera) and want to either get a full frame pro body or simplify things and get a small compact mirrorless body.
If I got the X-E1 I'd grab a 35mm f/1.4 and some cheap manual focus wide angle.
If I got the D700 I'd grab a Nikon 50 1.4.

I just can't see it as a good purchase compared to Nikon's other cameras no matter how I look at it
People are still gonna buy it

The Fuji is a great buy, I'm not sure how the workflow is for processing RAW files though because of the different sensor. I would personally take it over the d700 because of the form factor, but at the same time adapted lenses wouldn't be too wide realistically (with a 24mm being about 36mm, then 20mm and under is quite pricey). Fuji does have a stellar 14mm lens though that I've only heard incredible things about. If you dislike the bulk of your d90 I don't think the d700 would be any better
I heard that all the Fuji XF-mount lenses are all excellent.
The reason I was considering the D700 is because it's full frame, letting me use f/1.4 lenses to the full extent. The noise performance is also a big upgrade over the D90, despite it also being a camera from 2008.

I think you're right, an X-E1 with a pancake lens would fit in my back pocket, it would make photography sooo much easier and more convenient.
Decided to slap Magic Lantern on a 60D, woo audio levels. Too bad I don't have a mic to use

i think the point is that its a modern DSLR inside a cool body, anyone buying one sure isnt buying one for the specs
[editline]5th November 2013[/editline]
is it redundant to buy a nikon 35mm 1.8G and then a 50mm 1.8 AI series since the 50mm is like 50-75 dollars
Cool looking bodies are cool
Can I ask for some opinions on EVFs?
i don't like them over optical ones on camcorders/cine cameras or mirrorless cameras but i prefer them in terms of form factor when shooting video, if that helps at all. depends on the quality really.
The one in my a77 is great. Quite large so it works well for APS-C (about the size of a film camera finder, much bigger than regular APS-C finders) which is my favorite thing about it. Big, sharp, good color, I prefer them to OVF's because of all the extra info you get in the finder and you can do grid overlays really easily. Being able to see (most of the) exposure and WB before you take the photo is really cool too.
I prefer using the screen though, just because that's how I'm used to shooting.
I kind of don't like it because it uses more battery and sometimes it's too bright or dim. I'm sure there's automatic settings for the brightness though. Not sure if this exists on many.
I like it because it's like a screen and you can change the layout and what you see.
this will probably sound dumb but is there any concern to be had when using a camera when its humid out, but you cant feel it? Like if its cold/warm (not hot) and the humidity is above 80%? (aka what the camera is rated for according to nikon)
no
your lens might get foggy though so bring a microfiber cloth if you are worried about that
It should be fine
Got a new tripod today. Quick release plates, 56" in height, bar that comes down from the middle so you can hold it sort of like a stedicam, and the piece with the plate on it rotates on a ball so I can tilt the camera any which way. It's pretty great.

The humidity here is like >80% almost all the time and my camera was fine.
I think the manufactures say that to save their asses if someone tries to get a free camera by saying "humidity" affected theirs.
You might want to put a bag of silica gell in your camerabag to absorb some of the humidity in the bag.
Although everyone says you should be fine, your lens could grow fungus under those kind of circumstances. Nothing to be too afraid of because the chance of it hapenning is small.
Great, I'm looking at SD cards again because some are on sale and I want more.
I could buy the Kingston Elite 32GB UHS-I Class 10 SDHC Card, Read: 30MB/s (SD10G3/32GB) but I can't find anywhere the write speeds and it's probably slow but good enough for Canon HD DSLR video. It's only $26.99. Friend got this for around $20 a while back so I might as well wait for that sale if I really want this. Since I started to use ML, I don't really see myself using the higher bit rate settings anyways.

Or the Kingston Ultimate 32GB UHS-I Class 10 SDHC Card (SDA10/32GB) which looks pretty good for it's price. 45MB/s write, 90MB/s read which is more than enough for me and it's only $29.99.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=176&item_id=060570
Or the Kingston Ultimate 16GB UHS-I Class 10 SDHC Card (SDA10/16GB) which is the same as above but in a smaller size and 2x 16GB cards cost the same as one 32GB card so I might as well get the 16GB cards so if something goes wrong, I only lose 16GB of stuff not 32GB. And I can easily lend a 16GB which I'll probably be doing more often.

Or stop raging about choosing which one and just get both the one 32GB and two 16GB when I get the chance.
I got a SanDisk Extreme 32GB USH-I Class 10 SDHC card for $39.99 2-3 months ago and so far it's pretty good but it costs $10 more when I can get a Kingston equivalent for $10 less right now so I'll probably get the Kingston Ultimate cards soon.
Almost certainly going to get a X-E1 and Fujinon 35mm 1.4.
I wouldn't be missing out on much without full frame.
