I was saying that with a Canon camera, most if not all of their DSLRs have External Mic Jacks, because anyone with an intelligent cell in their fucking brain knows that onc amera mics are bad

exactly, so why would you plug a mic into it and have it on camera?

anyone with a few intelligent cells in their brain knows both on camera mics are bad and you need to use xlr mics into a separate recorder with sync in post

Rode Videomic straight in line sounds pretty nice.

That's extra work and extra money being spent.
Is it better? Hell yeah, you'll get much better audio quality than a video mic slapped on the hotshoe.
yeah but saying better in camera sound as a reason to get canon over nikon for video is like saying a penectomy is better than a full lower body amputation

But Canon does have better video than Nikon for DSLR video.

Never underestimate these, they are sick. shot 2 of them at download festival this year and was so happy with the results.

understandable

ye just drop a few quid on an external mic and never have to deal with that shit again
really worth it in the long run
just don't go full out cheapskate lol
Since you guys are so helpful, I think I'm going to get the a850.
My Nikon is worth $500, and the sony is worth $1000, so I think I have a real chance of affording it.
recently been thinking more and more that i wanna have a digital camera that does good video, semi-seriously considering selling my 450d (not that it'll get me much anyway) and getting something like a second-hand GH2 (the footage people get from hacked ones looks stunning)
i don't really even use the canon that much anyway, it's been sitting in someone else's flat with a dead battery for months since i stick to 35mm so much
is this a silly idea?

The a850 is good. I've thought about getting one but the price is just too close to an a7 which I would much rather have. You can get minolta maxxum (they need to be maxxum) lenses for cheap and build a decent kit. The 50mm 1.7 (~$60) and 28-135mm 4-4.5 (~$200) are good starting points
is that a D3200 for $500 a good deal or should I wait for black friday?
-sniped-
Sounds about normal, if it includes the 18-55 VR kit lens.
Edit: for the D3200 not the 5D2.

i mean if you don't use it then you might as well grab something that you will use. the gh2 is a pretty great camera
Can't a lot of Canon and Nikon cameras shoot raw video with magic lantern?
I don't know much about this so I'll leave it at that.

Magic Lantern only works on Canon and there hasn't been any kind of hack or mod for Nikon cameras at all. The RAW is limited to a select amount of Canon DSLRs, require high write speeds and cards to handle it.
the 5D3 does RAW the best. my 600d can barely push 640x480 raw
the 5D3 does RAW the best. my 600d can barely push 640x480 raw
Perhaps it's because you're using a slow(er) SD Card?
Perhaps it's because you're using a slow(er) SD Card?
If you have a 5D3 there's no reason you shouldn't have a class 10 trancend SD card inside it
If you have a 5D3 there's no reason you shouldn't have a class 10 trancend SD card inside it
I was refering to his 600D but people recommend not just class 10 but 1000x speeds or higher for RAW (for the 5Dmk3)
Been using a 7D for my uni work since I started and I've decided I hate it. I get more dynamic range in terms of lighting on my Lumix G2...
I just need to sell my D3100 and its 35mm lens, and make an extra $300 and I can buy a a850!

Nice one.
So I'm looking to buy my girlfriend a camera since she mentioned wanting to get into it a few times, I've been looking at some 'cheap' second hand camera's and I can find a whole lot of Canon 400D's and Nikon 1100D's
Now both are in the same price class around here, So I was wondering which one I'm better off picking or if you have any other suggestions let me know! I'm looking to spend about 300usd (Don't want to go over it since it's just a gift but if it's really worth it I could give in a bit more)
Thanks!
there is no nikon 1100D
