is $500 too much or too little to ask for a 3 year old used nikon d3100 with kit lens, 35mm nikkor lens, and 2 8gb cards?
Sounds about right.
My old flatmate had a used camera business and he told me that selling as complete kits brought up the profit margin and sold quicker.
Basically, what you're doing.
Maybe throw in a random lens cloth and cheap UV filter and call it a "photography basics kit" or something. People snap that up.
I tossed the box long ago. Is that a problem?
ahh there's an ae-1 kit in east mesa on craigslist with an nFD 50mm 1.4, nFD 80-200mm f4, and most importantly an nFD 20mm 2.8 and the whole thing is $125
but i'm not going home for two weekends so i can't get it ;(

Oh well the 20mm f/2.8 isn't such a stellar performer anyway. Good price for that set though.
So I'm looking to buy my girlfriend a camera since she mentioned wanting to get into it a few times, I've been looking at some 'cheap' second hand camera's and I can find a whole lot of Canon 400D's and Nikon 1100D's
Now both are in the same price class around here, So I was wondering which one I'm better off picking or if you have any other suggestions let me know! I'm looking to spend about 300usd (Don't want to go over it since it's just a gift but if it's really worth it I could give in a bit more)
Thanks!
If she just wants to do photography go for a Nikon, if she also wants to shoot videos now and then and get into videography go for a Canon.
I would suggest a body that has liveview though, I don't think the EOS 400D and 1100D have those but I could be wrong.
Maybe this fits what you are looking for? EOS 500D body with 18-55mm kitlens and 18-200m Tamron.

Might as well just get one of those two lenses
Got myself an Olympus Mju II
It's so small and awesome. The viewfinder is better than I expected. It feels good knowing that now I am always going to have a camera with me. But I am surprised how expensive small format film is.

My mom is actually buying it now for me for Christmas lol
Man the times have changed. 5 years ago I paid like $25 for this: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=11_1216_175_176&item_id=026665 and now it's only $6
The Samyang 16mm f2 (aps-c) is on sale here

tamron's new lens is 150-600mm
wow thats an attractive focal length, i must say
It's gonna be pretty bad (I'm almost certain).
It's aimed at the same people who want to buy those 18-300mm lenses. Quantity over quality type people.
their 200-500mm was quite good though, i expect that this lens should be a decent telephoto option and hopefully at least on par with that lens. any lens zooming out to 600mm is quite an achievement regardless. i can't see it being worse than the sigma 50-500mm (the sigma covers more range, but is considered good). i am expecting good things from this lens

Oh god, it super zooms...
a lot of people seem to like tamron and a lot of people seem to absolutely hate them and refuse to use their products, but my 70-300 is really nice, a lot better than the nikon 55-300 and (imo) better than the nikon 70-300 that costs $100 more. I would have never bought it if it wasnt for your guys' recommendation. a lot of the hate i see on tamron seems to be from the people who only want to use lenses that are the same brand as their body, which is kinda lame.
I have yet to try the tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 with IS...

The reviews often compare it to the Canon and sigma versions but those don't have image stabilization.
I really can't wait to get my 300HS.
The Sony A7R has the second highest sensor rank on DXOmark, next to the D800E.
I love this so much because it's mirrorless. I really think it's future to ditch the mirror.
Also I never realised that Canon has been quite far behind now, they used to be pretty dominant in the market.
Also this is weird because I never talk about gear like this, help. I still think it's more about the user than the gear though.

There is nothing wrong with knowing about what's out there and how it can/can't help you.

Yeah true, that last part doesn't apply to this forum.
i dont understand how people pay the same amount for a mirrorless camera as a DSLR. most id pay for a mirrorless is probably $800 assuming that I would ever buy one in the first place
[editline]15th November 2013[/editline]
also lol samsung galaxy NX has a 28 second boot up time since android
Mirrorless have just as good image quality as DSLR's, and you can use any lens ever via adapters. Then you have better size, modularity, and the live view features are so much better.
I love my Nex and I'm very set on getting an a7, I wouldn't pick any other camera instead regardless of price. Mirrorless cameras are excellent, I wouldn't pick a DSLR camera over them
