my dad passed this down to me, near-mint condition (not a picture of mine, but it's that.) thing is, I forget how to take film pictures, all I have experience with was an old pentax with black and white film. Also got handed down a mint-cond Nikon FA...? and some REALLY old Exakta lens from the 1920's. Already ordered an exakta lens converter to M43 mount to check it out. It's crazy looking, all in french I assume these cameras just take normal 35mm film? like I said I really don't know all this old-skool stuff
With a name like "Rollel 35" I'm pretty sure it does 35mm film. and the bottom one is also a 35mm camera.
my grandpa showed me his minolta lens collection that he keeps in a bowling bag in his closet he has a mint 28mm rokkor-x i sent heavy hints his way that i really wanted it and he said he'll write it to me in his will hes an evil evil man
Large collection?
135mm rokkor x 50mm 1.4 rokkor x 70-200mm teli 28mm rokkor x p much all i want in life
I want something wide, wide on an APS-C sensor, so like ≤20mm. Anything that's less than or around $150 US? Manual focus to keep it cheap.
you want something that is less than 20mm or with crop factor its under 20?
I found one of the lenses my grandfather passed down: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EX-Angenieux-Paris-28mm-f-3-5-TYPE-R11-Exakta-mount-28-F3-5-B02730-/280882457629 should I keep or sell? glass is near-mint, exterior has a little wear
you want something that is less than 20mm or with crop factor its under 20?
<20mm. So <30mm on a FF. [editline]30th November 2013[/editline] I'm updating my lens's firmware. Weird.
I honestly dont know of any regular wide angles under $250 i know fisheyes that are like $200 or so but thats it [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] btw, for anyone curious, the pharrell 24 hours of happy thing was shot on an Arri Alexa with a 50mm anamorphic panavision c-series lens
uurg i just want $500 so i can sell my nikon and get that a850 uuugh im so impatient [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] im getting ahead of myself and getting interested in fujifilm mirrorless while i shop around
<20mm. So <30mm on a FF. [editline]30th November 2013[/editline] I'm updating my lens's firmware.
you did good, pentax bodies have the best weather sealing of most DSLRs (afaik), including the high end 1D and D3/4 level stuff. The only reason I didn't get a pentax as my first camera is because i have access to a lot of nikon lenses and nikon compatible stuff. Normally id say there are less lenses for pentax system but if you are getting lenses for free from your sister then yeah thats awesome, good job. but where did you get one for $500? [editline]27th November 2013[/editline] but dont let it get into your head that having a good camera means that you take good pictures
Now that it's arrived, I can finally tell you where my Dad managed to get ahold of it for this price. I was a bit off, it was actually $550 as opposed to the aforementioned $500 (oh no!), and it was ordered from "Henry's Canada", as a phone order no less. :v: Using this camera, I can safely say I have no idea what I am doing, this makes even the most "impressive" point and shoot I've used look like a complete toy. I am honestly quite excited. Thanks for your feedback, by the way, I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a poor selection on my part. Any downsides I should consider with this particular model when I go to use it? (After I'm done reading this phonebook of a user manual, that is)

The 18mm isn't really that expensive so I'll grab it some time in the future.
wider than 24mm on any mount the price rockets up rather quickly, and rangefinder lenses won't perform as well because they are optimized for film. fuji is also making a 10-24mm f4 OIS lens, it might be worth waiting for. IMO if you want wider than 28mm on APS-C the best bet would be to get a wide angle zoom.

(After I'm done reading this phonebook of a user manual, that is)
i never read the manual for my dslr when I got it, I just fiddled with it for a few weeks and if I was absolutely stumped then I would google my question downsides to a camera? every model has some downside whether it be size, speed, battery life, etc. not too much of a pentax guy really, but if you are a total beginner then there should be no concerns. just one tip, try to use "auto" mode as little as possible. you might want to catch up on the photography/gear terms
Yeah that 10-24mm looks great, it'll probs be pretty expensive. On the other hand, the 18mm is tiny, and that's why I got this camera in the first place.

I was wondering what they were using for the several days they shot this and the amount of footage they got out if it. Imagine managing all of that footage... Let alone the whole production.
so apparently the sigma 30mm 1.4 art can have rear/front focusing issues and the only way to fix it is to buy a $60 sigma usb dock or send your camera/lens to sigma to be calibrated so im guessing then its a no-go unless i want to deal with that stuff [editline]30th November 2013[/editline] i dont really know what to do. I want a 30/35mm fast prime because thats like a really obvious lens to have, but I also want a wide angle, something like a tokina 12-28mm. any advice?
what do you guys think sony a850 OR fujifilm x pro1 [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] or x-e1
what do you guys think sony a850 OR fujifilm x pro1 [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] or x-e1
Sony A7 :v:
So I recently used the wifi capabilities on a 6D and it was pretty cool. Too bad it can't do video mode, there's some lag and other things.
Sony A7 :v:
too expensive!!
too expensive!!
You'd get the things you like about the a850 and xpro 1 in the same body though
You'd get the things you like about the a850 and xpro 1 in the same body though
i know, and it sucks that i just cant afford it i can't go out and take a loan. after my full time 3 week job at the photo lab is over, i'll have 1000 dollars, minus 600 for car insurance...i am not rich! [editline]30th November 2013[/editline] im selling my nikon for 500, so that will have me up to 1000 again, still only half way there.
then save. do you really need it now?
then save. do you really need it now?
im just saying, the way my life is now, the ebb and flow of cash is not in my favor.
I mean, do you really need it? Have you not been getting along just fine with what you have now? Put that money into a 'gear' savings account and hold out for something that will really be special, instead of settling on what you can afford right now (now = 3 to 6 months). It obviously took you a good chunk of effort to get to where you are now with your budget - you will be at square one as soon as you buy a camera, why not hold on just a little longer? In your terms, the flow will return.
I suppose. My nikon is getting worth less and less every day, and I don't really want to sell it until I know I'm getting another digital camera.
