trogdon best camera expert all time [editline]3rd December 2013[/editline] can someone explain why tighter apertures make the DOF wider and make the image sharper? does it have something to do with a wider aperture allowing light to spread around the sensor more?
I think it has something to do with the light not spreading out as much in the lens
I did a little research and peeps on the web are saying that the difference between single and multi coated lenses is nearly nothing True? Does it really matter?
Yes quite a bit Multi coated lenses are more modern designs and have more contrast. Single coated designs are more useful for black and white photography, which is why Voigt makes the two versions. That said the MC will give a more "modern" performance, while the SC will be more classic in rendering. Since its a fast prime I would recommend MC as you need all the contrast you can get wide open
i heard that tone and color are smoother with single coat
define smoother?
not as harsh? so basically less contrasty, what trogdon said
not as harsh? so basically less contrasty, what trogdon said
Well these are my results from the 40mm 1.4 Nokton MC 20131110-Scan-131110-0013 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr 20131110-Scan-131110-0001 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr 20131110-Scan-131109-0004 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr Image0025.jpg by CommunistWolf, on Flickr BatchPic0006.jpg by CommunistWolf, on Flickr I think either would be fine but the MC might have a good advantage for flare control, and contrast
Getting my adapter for my Angenieux 28mm type R11 today (Exakta to M43) then I'll decide whether to sell it or not
get to do b&w darkroom shit next month, yeees
get to do b&w darkroom shit next month, yeees
It's fun, but those weird rooms that are pitch black where you put the film on that spool thing freak me out and give me panic attacks.
It's fun, but those weird rooms that are pitch black where you put the film on that spool thing freak me out and give me panic attacks.
use a changing bag
w/ the amount of pp you're going to probably do on your pictures i doubt a sc and mc coated lens with produce something that much different unless you were looking at pictures side by side that said if the mc isnt more expensive then well
Bought a Canon 1D mkII today, with a 50/1.8, just bought it for my photography course and because it was cheap enough.
shoulda gone 1ds
Well there was a 1D2 at a low enough price and no better cameras in the price range.
although I myself own a mirror-less, I find this article pretty stupid It's just about how no one is going to use DSLRs anymore minus hardcore professionals. Which could happen, but I could see myself using a 5D and not be a "pro". It's just good equipment http://gizmodo.com/the-last-days-of-the-dslr-1465327158

If you get the same image quality out of a little camera that's easy to carry around, why would you carry a big unwieldy SLR around with you for shooting for fun?

My G6 is the perfect size to feel beefy and handle big lenses, but still be really portable. It can fit in my pocket with no lens. Quality is comparable to the mid-range sensor sizes, but I haven't noticed a distinct difference unless I'm in bad light. If I waited longer and had more money... the Sony A7r looks sweet.
I'm selling my 1000D body+ a 30mm F2.8 or 3.5 lens + kit lens(if I buy one gave my last one to a friend) + camera bag. What should I price it at to a friend or on ebay? Been out of photography for a year due to illness
What happened, if it's not too personal?
Back. There were so many posts in this thread that I think it went out of my read menu. Anyway my Dad still hasn't fucking sent me the 300HS.

do you understand anything about cinematography or moving pictures or do you literally expect the make the next blockbuster on a $500 camera with little work.
Arri Alexa and their 85mm T2 lens It's what the pros use. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] If you're on a budget, a Canon 1Dx or 5D mark 3 with a similar lens is more than 10 times cheaper.
buy a 5D3 and get a company to install a PL mount onto it, then use a set of Zeiss SuperSpeeds. The T1.3 aperture will be good, considering you spent so much on the camera you can't afford any lights.

It's also not weather sealed, but it is pretty small. Also you can use a smartphone as an external monitor, which can be great for JIB use without having to buy an expensive monitor. This is probably the cheapest new camera you can take professional-quality video with, although I may be wrong. The Gh3 is probably about 1100, being weather sealed with great quality. The actual image quality is only slightly better than the g6, but you got a great piece of hardware which is used a ton by amateur film-makers, and professionals as well. The M43 mount is also great to throw on old lenses with adapters 7D and 5D are both more expensive, but epic DLSRs to film with. Full frame on the 5D, both have super rugged bodies. I've only been into this stupid for about 2 months, so my information is mainly from my company (which does all film work) and my own personal research.
why is there no canon 2D, 3D, or 4D
5 is a kool number
